In this video professional male image consultant Aaron Marino talks about how to use, wear and accessorize with a tie bar, tie clip and tie pin. Men's accessories are a great way to add your own personal style and flair to an outfit.
Important points not covered:
1. Tie bar's function is to fasten both ends of your tie to your shirt placket.
2. Width should always be lesser than the width of the tie
3. Shouldn't be flashy or tacky. Plain design and gun metal.

+Michaelkayslay You're right. That's the functional use of it. Hold both ends together and fasten it to placket of your shirt. Fashion rules are that it is should be simple and not tacky. Width is important. Else you end up looking like a douchebag.

His point was to show where on your tie to wear it, obviously he couldn't show which buttons to place it in between if he would have attached it to his shirt.

Purpose: Tie clips, bars, pins or stacks are used to hold the tie with the shirt... so that your tie does not act like a flying monster when u r in wind.. or perhaps go way of its position without you noticing.
Method: Between the third and the fourth button of your shirt (from the top, yes including the neck or collar button) clip the Blade (the wider or main part of the tie), the tail (the narrow part that hangs behind) and the shirt together.
Make sure the tail is in the center of the blade so that it does not hand out of its position destroying the main purpose of the tie bar.

I think it was the 70's that killed that vibe. My aunt sent me some pictures from a JC Penney catalogue from ~1977 and wow was it horrible.
Love my tie bars and pocket squares too. I try to keep it to two "attention getters" though, and a lot of times I count my tie as one. So if I go with a neat pocket square, I'll forgo a clip or just wear a simple one and vice versa. Just depends on my mood and what I'm doing.

Why doesn't he use it as an actual clip though? Pinning your tie to your shirt? That seems to be more important than where you place it (I usually keep it somewhere in the upper middle, so you can just see it over my jacket.

Aaron I'm sure you realize, though you did not successfully demonstrate, the purpose of the tie bar is to fasten the tie to the placket of the shirt...not just sit on the tie and look pretty.
This video is decent but the most important function of the tie clip was left out. The tie clip is used to clip the tie and shirt together, so it's not dropping every time you lean over to get your food lol ;)
You're half right. It's original purpose is to hold the front part of the tie to the little one at the back.

Ok, so here's the thing. I know why you didn't put it on your shirt. It was to be able to show us what buttons to put it between, right? Anyway you said nothing about the difference between a clip and a bar. You didn't show tie chains and the title mentions tie pins which you didn't show either. Howabout collar bars? Howabout telling us how to keep the tie clip from going all sideways? I'm sure you have a good site going here but give us more info please.

actually I do, a true dress shirt is not short sleeve. they make short sleeve button down collar shirts. However, they are not classified as a dress shirt. look it up

I tend to use my sternum as a general guideline. I've seen guys wear it way too high and way too low, and it just looks silly!

You've tie bars of different widths. Go for 0.5 inch one for skinny ties.
I like the videos but you should push away from just dress clothes a bit maybe with casual clothing others than just a more casual button down I mean others... Maybe hairstyle and grooming videos. Thanks
