'Here today' the first Chameleons track me and my brother ever heard, [approx 40 odd years ago] he taped it off the legendary John Peel radio show. We were hooked, and now I sit here in New Zealand as a 60 year old and bro is in China both a long way from Belfast , N.Ireland . Mark Burgess lyrics mean more than ever now in these times.
One of the greatest albums of all time and definitely in my top 10. I remember buying the album without knowing the band because I loved the artwork. It took half a dozen listens before I was consumed by its musical and lyrical brilliance (My life is a Barclays' loan now, and a mortgage to pay). Mortgage interest rates were up at 15% plus and this album perfectly captured the stress a lot of us were feeling. And Burgess had absolutely the right voice to make me feel that he was a kindred spirit. Fucking immense album.
That was f'n awesome!!!! One of my favorite albums from the 80's. Definitely withstands the test of time. I really can't believe I got to watch the Chameleons play Strange Times live ...during these strange times.THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this! Great camera discipline, stellar video and the sound is incredible for a phone. My favorite band ever, and well captured. Damn, that was good.
Saw them wednesday. They played only 2 Songs from ST. But it was completely obvious that with all the masterworks, souls in isolation with its weird Structure was the best. Suddenly, pure Transzendence was here, on earth.
saw them for the first time on wed evening...june 18...unbelievable face-melting , heart breaking riffs that make your eyes roll back in your head to a daydream...man...left everything on the stage.. the club was smaller sized, here in tucson. anyway, i got some super merch and signatures from the awesome band and reg is back! have a ball!!!!!
Thank you for posting! My favoutite post punk band (not the initial formation ..); but Mark Burghess somehow remind us. The sound is not perfect but anyway, like Mark said: "we're living in strange times" ...
I don't know why this Band was never more popular, they were / are fantastic! Never got much air play here across the pond in Canada unless you were lucky enough to be able to tune into an alternative radio station (cfny-fm in Toronto). I actually had no idea you were still kicking around! Right On guys.... Keep it up... maybe one day I'll get lucky enough to see you play LIVE!!!!!
The original tour they were on with The Mission got postponed to 2023, but they are now on a different tour so they'll be in Toronto November 12th at Velvet Underground and in London on November 13th at Rumrunner. They're touring with She Wants Revenge.
we had a great alternative radio station WHFS fab 👌 gone to sh*t now great music & djs gone, now just garbage... what a shame! great times when music was fab! ❤❤cheers from 🇺🇸 😊
How can such epiphany inducing rock genius be relagated to a small club with people nonchalantly chatting away? Strange times indeed. I would take this performance over any overpriced, sponsor endorsed O2 arena shitehawk band any day. Brilliant album, beautifully played. Long live Mark Burgess
Two people that absolutely can get away with being the only remaining original member of the band touring: Peter Hook (and the light), and Mark Burgess. Reg, Dave and John are irreplaceable but this incarnation is a reasonable emulation; they sound great! Funny, both are bassists too.
Great band. Tempestuous career. Interesting and near-great side projects (or post-breakup-pre-reformation projects). 5 min ago just discovered there's a 2xLP release of the 2019 tour (which I never knew about to begin with, typical of the ever changing always under the radar nature of the band). This could be good. I'll probably watch it. But damn, John is gone and Reg & Dave aren't here. Always a shaky proposition. I just hope Dave/Reg/John's family are getting properly compensated.
Having re formed in 2000 , Burgess & Fielding fell out in November 2002 I believe. It’s confusing because I read yesterday that Reg is playing with Mark Burgess at present ( or would’ve been if the tour hadn’t been put back again )..David Fielding isn’t pleased with the use of the name without “ Vox “ as has been for 10 years. John Lever passed away in ‘17 unfortunately. That’s my understanding if this clears your confusion 😁👍
This album is a litmus test for the world. If you can't engage in the lyrics and the message; the sonic guitars and the driving beats... well I guess you can go back to listening to Ms. Swift.
Nope, not Dave. The friendship between Mark and Dave disintegrated *completely* after the last Chameleons reunion/tour in the early 2000's. From what I've seen, Reg has rejoined Mark and has played a few C. Vox shows recently...
