Seeing black women set standards and exceed them more than they ever imagined really allows us young black woman believe and SEE that we can do anythingggg!!! I love it here✨🥺
One thing I like about the film and t.v. industry is that BW really stand together and help each other out. More and more of them have their own production companies and are getting production deals. These days, it seems like all the major networks have their version of a Shonda Rhimes. They bring in black writers and everything.
You’re so right she’s glowing, I was noticing her skin so silky and beautiful looking like it’s lit from within, what’s your secret Taraji. Not that greasy look, but supple.
This woman’s age still blows my mind considering how absolutely stunning she looks. Let’s not even talk about her genius as an actress. And her interviews are always so fun and down to earth . I love her
She is definitely in the category of ageless, gorgeous black women as Saana Lathan, Nia Long, Angela Bassett, my girl who acted as Candy in Best Man, and the list goes on... God truly blessed black women with so many gifts!
Genius. And they relate on a racial level as well. They relate as actors. The conversation is so much more full. It helps that taraji is a great interviewee too
We are living in a generation where one job is NOT enough! You need multiple checks coming in to survive!! When I was just working a job, I couldn't even pay my bills. Now with a good job, school and a side hustle, I am able to pay my bills and do the things I want!! Once I get my degree and open my business, I plan to be successful and long lasting!! 🙏🙏
white people support their own so the money and demand is there for their actors to make more. we as black people don't show up to the the box office, so the money isn't there. if white movies make $250 million at the box office, then the main actor can get paid $20 million, but if the black movie only make $30 million, then the main actor can only make $3 million. same with Monique. black people wasn't going to show up to see Monique on Netflix, therefore, they weren't going to make a return on investment had they paid her the same as Amy Schumer
These are the conversations that give this show its name... Real Talk...thanks for normalizing conversations about salaries and so much more Taraji..wishing you continued success❤
Hands down the best interview BY FAR this season & on this show altogether !!! I’m glad they had all 3 black women stage together to embrace and have a very important conversation that other people that look like them need to hear in regards to mental health , self worth & etc .
This was such an amazing interview. The transparency was a breath of fresh air. This is also a great motivation segment for women watching this. To understand that no one can advocate for our worth better than ourselves. I would love to see scarlet Johnson Discuss how she stood up for herself and went head to head with Disney.
A key difference between black Hollywood and white Hollywood is wealth. Something they rarely speak about is that some of the white entertainers had family money to give them a financial cushion while they pursue their ambitions. This allows them to say no to low wages. But as a majority of black people who want to enter the industry they have to barely survive. The higher ups know this and can systematically low ball black entertainers. It will take SYSTEMATIC CHANGE and *reparations* for fair equitable pay. Especially to black women who get paid the least.
Yessss! The salary you start with forms the base for your next project. If you start on a very low rate, your next gig, even if it's higher will still be low relative to the person who started on a higher rate and is just as talented and has similar audience pull
@The Hip hop Guitarist Assuming you watched the video and followed the math she explained, 150k gross earning comes down to 30k take home. 30k take home for 5 months work is 6k per month. Which would be decent (6*12 is 72k, not up to the 75k mark of what’s considered to be the level where additional increases in wealth don’t matter as much) for a 9-5 worker in most fields but she’s an actress in Hollywood. Who has to support her son (who she explains in the video, his tuition costs exactly that 30k) but assuming he goes to a cheaper school, she’d still have to spend on a house in a good neighborhood, she’s famous and that can put her security at risk. Other bills, supporting extended family who feel like she’s doing great etc. it’s not a lot of money to spend tbh
@The Hip hop Guitarist It's the only work she did for 5 months. If you work it out for the year, there are people that work in technology and healthcare that make that -- and more. It's not a lot of money -- especially for a hit movie (that brought in hundreds of millions of dollars) and established actor. It's nowhere near rich. You have a poor person's mentality.
She’s right. I watched Empire just because she was in it! I didn’t know that I would’ve been interested in the story because I haven’t watched it yet. But she made me want to watch it and damn I spent hours binging on the whole series! 😂
Wow. She broke it down!! I honestly was all prepared to say: "She greedy", but she really proved me wrong!! No-one ever broke it down like that to me before?! She deserve so much more!!
Really something wrong with the make-up. She looks kinda weird. And we all know shes beautifull. Her lips and nose look weird. Live her, not the makeup.
I really like her, Taraji just seems real, I like that. I’m glad she’s making more, she is talented. This was a great convo between women who understand the hardships they face. Coming from a nonblack woman I can appreciate the candor between them.
The sad thing is, this is true for multiple people not just people who are in the industry. I work in education and when you work in “private” institutions, it’s not the government who’s paying you so you can negotiate your salary and things of the sort. For maybe the first 4 years of my work life, I got paid dust. And when I realized that and started speaking up, people looked at me differently like how dare you speak up for what you truly are worth? And so I vowed myself to never get in a situation or place where my worth isn’t recognized from the get go. I do understand that it’s a very privileged way of thinking because I’m single and I don’t have 2 or 3 kids I have to feed and clothe. But I promise you, the minute you start believing in your own worth and let God guide you towards something new, no matter how scary that new may seem, other people will look at you and understand that if they don’t come at you straight they’re gonna lose you because you bring something nobody else does.
