I got my wife a Motorola Edge 40 Pro. She is very happy with the pictures. Especially at night, she got better pictures than iPhones and Samsung phones. She adores the Motorola shortcuts and gestures. Also, she's a businesswoman and the 125W fast charging is absolute awesome. When you plug the charger in it looks like it's counting random numbers, not charging :)) .

I see in this days a lot of people speak about the camera. Much more than anything. look at the whole phone that it presents, not just at a camera that you can always replace with a much better performing one from a DSLR or mirrorless. a good camera on a smartphone really matters, but still, you can't judge a phone just from this point of view. the camera offered by the Edge 40 Pro is a good one. On the video side, it behaves really well, very good stabilization. Overall 165Hz, 125w charging, OLED display, IP68, Dolby Atmos, Dolby vision, I think it offers a good price-quality ratio.
This phone costs half of what a Galaxy S23 Ultra costs. It has same specs, except for the cameras. Are the cameras worth twice the price? Not for most people, especially for people who don't live on social media. And this still has amazing cameras, can even do 4k60 on the front camera.
i think there was some issues of importing photos in this review because i refuse to believe that there's a camera system taking such bad pictures in 2023-2024
Protip for moto owners - the navigation buttons at the bottom can be changed by bypassing the settings by pulling the settings widget "3 buttons" to the desktop (option under to select under "shortcut to specific settings") - you will then enter a submenu that is not normally available in the normal settings 😃
Wish you'd spend as much time on the Ready For desktop mode that you glossed over in a single word as was spent on the cameras. Sick of every review being little more than a camera review while ignoring features that are actually different and provide exceptional functionality.
I do like the price point that Moto are hitting, but when they are competing with phones like OnePlus and pixel pro, I really think they need a stand out feature. I'd love to see them bring back expandable memory slot and headphone jack, wouldn't cost them much but would be something that makes them stand out. The lackluster camera is nothing really when you can run a gcam port. They also need to sort out their security and OS updates, they are way to slow and alot of the time they flat out skip months at a time
According to DxOMark this placed within a few points of the S23+ in the camera comparison, and beats it in both battery and charging speeds, I think stock android is probably the best skin so at 799 for the Edge+ 512GB (the US variant coming this month) its an awesome deal.
Reason why flagship phones don't have expandable storage is that micro sds are considerably slower than the onboard storage and would in fact actually slow down the phone if it were used, hurting customers experience
@@LTEAndroid Phones install speed critical stuff on internal memory anyway. Only thing you can store on SD card are photos, documents and other media. It doesn't slow down the phone. Not including SD card slot is way to charge premium for higher internal memory models.

But going through with what you said, I think you might as well get a Sony, that is the only phone I know that has both a headphone jack and a SD card slot. And with this gcam if it is legit will help solve sony's auto photos instead of it needing to be always done manually.

Everyone talking about camera quality ... but if you compare phones in the same 700e range now ... there is no competition. This phone is far the best. If you go 1000e + then you get better camera quality.
People just love to complain, comparing Motorola flagship to other brands flagship which often cost $1000+ is unfair as there'll be obvious reason why the Moto cost way less...in this case the camera (which doesn't even bad it'll do the job just fine).
Honestly in terms of specs the Motorola delivers a lot, but it lacks of a unique selling point. Something special that makes it stand out in a crowd of flagships, which is why it is not as popular.
The only thing that Motorola can do is price this phone really aggressively. They ask for flagship prices with a decent camera which is why Motorola isn't everyone's choice or recommendation.
I think Motorola gets overlooked because they always releasing these low-budget slightly to mid-range devices that all look the same perform the same cameras the same. Whenever they release devices like this on the higher-end a lot of people aren't ready for these devices because they're overshadowed by the galaxy s20 ultra-zoom of the world the Google pixel pros of the world the iPhone pro Max's of the world. These devices don't really get talked about and even rarely reviewed because of Samsung Apple and Google chokehold on all the consumers. I have the Motorola edge 30 fusion I am shocked that it doesn't get a lot of credit or how good it is for the pricing. Who knows that might change with the release of this current higher end device from Motorola

Look at it as them intentionally nerfing themselves. I've been using an Edge 20 Pro for some time now and gcam does wonders for the camera. Don't get me started on the software. The recent update to android 13 was a thing of beauty. The only thing stopping me from fully getting into it was the lack of a headphone jack.

that's what I do with my moto but it isn't perfect nor a replacement. it might not be completely stable or make photos better in all situations, processing might take longer and video/stabilitzation are usually better on stock camera

In my country it's only being sold WITHOUT the 125W charger in the box...granted price is below msrp but still feels like a rip-off, probably because retailers keep the msrp on display making it look like the phone is on sale. No, I wouldn't say it 'destroys' the Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixels' Tensor 2 chip is more than a match for the Snapdragon, the Pixel has a better screen (no phone needs a 144hz refresh rate, let alone 165hz.) The Pixel will get updates before the Motorola does, and it's a far better looking phone compared to the Motorola snoozefest. Plus the Pixel 7 Pro takes some of the best photos of any phone right now.

I talked about the cameras. But the screen, 1080p at 165Hz. You said it's not important but imagine if Pixel had it would you say it wasn't important?? The build quality is great, Victus front and back with an aluminum frame, how good can it get. It also has a quad curved display which is technically more pleasing to see. The battery life is way way better than Pixel 7 Pro. Connectivity is technically better cause the USB C doubles as A HDMI port for the Samsung Dex alternative called Ready sth 4. And yeah it would nit get as fast as an update but it's technically clean android in the interface a d gets as much software supports as the Pixel and even tops it with the fact that the phones have massive price cuts which makes it around ~$680 for 12/512 whilst €749 for 12/256 on Pixel 7 pro So that's a bargain.
I have an Edge 30 Pro coming from a Motorola One Zoom. I loved the camera on that one (3x Telephoto was especially nice). Really not liking the heavy contrast on the newer models. Outdoor and night shots look solid, but all indoor shots have darker colors to them which is annoying.
What good is 3 year OS upgrade support if it takes 3 years to receive a single OS update? Speaking from my experience with Lenovo moto phones, moto never again ;)
With Android 14, the EDGE 40 Pro, Motorola's flagship, should be improved and customized (as all other cell phone brands do) in various ways, for example: the alarm clock that does not work in energy saving mode or with the cell phone turned off; the photo gallery which has few editing functions and does not allow you to go back; photographic digital zoom optimization with AI; etc.
For ppl saying "just install Gcam" It's been a year and if I go in xda now there is a post describing the best gcam port and there's like 47 caveats to it, so yeah unfortunately there's no rock solid solution for moto's camera issues
Moto Edge 40 pro is PRO in almost everything except cameras. But it offers other "bonuses" in return: charger, ready for, etc. I like the slim form factor. If you like drawing, the Samsung Ultra is the one. I like both. Mho (my humble opinion).

Either will do. One UI 5.1 brings big optimisations to the S23 Ultra. I watched a review and he said that 120Hz is the sweet spot for most people. This might help, but you can watch GSMArena's review of the S23 Ultra.

what is the use of a 165hz refresh rate? even the most competitive gaming phones utilize 120 or 144hz, there is only so much you can actually notice on a limited space display like a phone screen. and it doesnt even reach 165hz on auto mode. moto should have put more research and money on the cameras and software instead of using it in a gimmick that users wont even be able to tell the difference

I have Edge 30 Pro and I not happy with it. Software update is too slow and has many bugs. Android 13 update make it worse. It has oled but disable aod function. My next phone will not Moto anymore. :(
I really like this phone but I'm disappointed that it's only in boring black. I dont mind the back being black but only if the side rails are a silver metal color brushed or shiny. They dont seem to make that simple classy color scheme anymore for some reason. When you make the metal rails black too its another level boring
Do not buy Motorola it's updates situation is shameful. Moto edge 30 series is yet to receive Android 13 update. Plus security update is still at 1February recieved at March end.
Why do so many empty heads care so much about the camera these days? Most people aren't even professional photographers and there is no difference between 4k and 1440p on a 6-7 inch phone. Not even mentioning the human aspect, 165 hz is just a waste of energy. Ridiculous, this phone ticks all the boxes. What your looking for is not a phone but a better life. Only if people spent more attention to improving themselves and not just their possessions, this world won't be such a shitty place. A world where someone who kicks balls or sings for a living is more valued than those who saves lives. Such a pitty.

Nope, but gorilla glass victus doing its job well. Just a few minor scratches after 7 months of moderate usage, with no screen protector

It's been a year and if I go in xda now there is a post describing the best gcam port and there's like 47 caveats to it, so yeah unfortunately there's no rock solid solution for moto's camera issues

Moto Edge 40 pro is PRO in almost everything except cameras. But it offers other "bonuses" in return: charger, ready for, etc. I like the slim form factor. If you like drawing, the Samsung Ultra is the one. I like both. Mho (my humble opinion).

Either will do. One UI 5.1 brings big optimisations to the S23 Ultra.
I watched a review and he said that 120Hz is the sweet spot for most people.
This might help, but you can watch GSMArena's review of the S23 Ultra.
Both will do what you need it too. I personally use an s20+ ànd I have no làgs or stutters using the phone.
I'd lean more towards the s23 ultra because of additional features like the spen and probably an overall better display and a pretty good camera setup

Not such a great battery life when using 165 refresh (these are opposing settings)
what is the use of a 165hz refresh rate? even the most competitive gaming phones utilize 120 or 144hz, there is only so much you can actually notice on a limited space display like a phone screen. and it doesnt even reach 165hz on auto mode. moto should have put more research and money on the cameras and software instead of using it in a gimmick that users wont even be able to tell the difference
One thing i would definetly mention is that it costs much less than a Galaxy s23. It is WAY CHEAPER!

Lenovo is terrible for updates 3 updates a year and after 2 years 1 patch a year . Not worth the money
I have Edge 30 Pro and I not happy with it. Software update is too slow and has many bugs. Android 13 update make it worse. It has oled but disable aod function. My next phone will not Moto anymore. :(
Backup your data on an external drive and do a factory reset. Would not recommend using the backup and restore feature of google.

I really like this phone but I'm disappointed that it's only in boring black. I dont mind the back being black but only if the side rails are a silver metal color brushed or shiny. They dont seem to make that simple classy color scheme anymore for some reason. When you make the metal rails black too its another level boring

Most people aren't even professional photographers and there is no difference between 4k and 1440p on a 6-7 inch phone.
