Jurnee is old enough to play a parent now. I’m officially a dinosaur.
lol, that got me too man. Remember her in eve bayou when she was like 9-10. Crazy how time moves
Literally was watching Eve's Bayou yesterday 😢
Hard to see Jurnee Smollett and not think about her destructive sociopath brother Jussie Smollet, or her supporting his nonsense with the "family" excuse
Well she is 37...could have played a parent 20yr ago tbh.
@@drumnbassdan man....shhh...I don't want to remember I am old now.
I like how they're showing black kids can be just that kids. Because, alot of shows movies and on the news they make it like black people are just rowdy grown folks out the gate
So youre a racist. Get some help.
Exactly 💯. Some people are saying this film is woke when it has nothing to do with leftwing politics 💀💀💀💀

"you ever had a dream so big you thought you were awake?" This line, the color grading, the music and the entire trailer as a whole gave me Beasts of the Southern Wild vibes. I'm so excited for this film now.
That was a great movie, I'm go watch it during my "Feed up time!" tonight.
It's such a mistake to use harsh digital cinematography on a film that takes place in the 90's. If they weren't going to shoot it on 16, they should have at least treated the digital better.
Yes, and also Raising Victor Vargas, and also We The Animals. All gorgeous, moving, gritty, soulful indie films.
The film seems so important! Yes little black boys too have dreams and innocence! It’s important that films show them having that!

Nice!!!! I gotta watch this. Born and raised in Chicago, but resided to ATL past few years. Miss Chi
Love this! Congrats
Im shocked but so glad this is rated PG. I don’t have to worry about gross scenes or excessive bad language. It’s rare to find any drama post 2010 that’s rated PG, even films with a young cast.
I find myself looking up parent guides for myself in recent years to avoid corrupting my mind any further.
@edwin99901 what is it exactly that you typically avoid?
I loved this movie. I am visiting Chicago 5.1.24 and this movie is real to me. I grew up in Jane Adams Project, located on the west side of Chicago. I entered into watching this movie with stereo-types: This movie is gonna be heavy on drugs, heavy on sex, and heavy on profanity. NOPE, it's just the life of 2 boys, innocent in the real world. There were tons of stories like this, working families trying to make it in the midst of racism and violence in a society that doesn't give a flip about your life. We have all grown up to be kind, God-loving fathers and contributors to life.
Movies showcasing the optimism and wonder of Black youth will always get my heart.
I hope a lot of people see this one
Woke rubbish
I want to, but it's not on streaming anywhere, it's hitting theatres in April, but only NY, LA and Chicago.

intriguing. growing up in northwest indiana in the 70s/80s, the television/radio news (and the Chicago based newspapers my parents bought) frequently had stories about the Cabrini-Greene area, and most of it was--- not positive-- It was the "Compton" of midwestern political discourse back then. Glad to see a film highlights a human story that goes beyond the lurid headlines of back then.
Great analysis.
The row houses of Cabrini Green! My grandmother lived on Deleware most of her life. In fact, she was one of the first people to move in that area shortly after they were built.
FINALLY A MOVIE ABOUT CABRINI WE NEED MORE CHICAGO MOVIES
TOO MANY NY AND LA MOVIES
Someone else mentioned it in the comments, as well......Finally a movie about black kids growing up and being kids....no agenda behind the film other than to tell a story about growing up there, and at that time. I'm glad. Not because there shouldn't be messages present in such films, but because the film seems to center around what these kids did and felt.
Regardless of ethnic background....I feel we lost that sort of storytelling recently. Like we can't tell stories about ourselves without having some huge moral obligation behind it just for doing so.
I am putting this on my list of movies to go and see right away.
You won't regret it.
The filmmaking is spectacular, Blake Cameron James and Gian Knight Ramirez are amazingly talented, Im so glad I got to see this Film in a theatre.

I was holding my breath for some kind of horror twist to pop out of nowhere!
I lived in Chicago in 1991 from Jersey; it is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. The people (I lived on the Southside, and I knew people on the Westside) I worked at a summer program for gifted children, and many of them lived in Public Housing. My conversations with these children were filled with wisdom, hope, and sadness. This is a family statement, that we have no choice at times to adultify our children, because we need the help, and so we rely on our children (NOT ALL OF US) I was latch key kid, I knew how to write checks and which line to stand in at the Utility company since I could walk to school. I am not angry at my parents, but having certain responsibilities at such a young age affected me. When Lil Rez said that line, it made me so sad...They ARE NOT grown, and the schizophrenic teachings confuse children....You are grown, but don't act grown...Witness these very adult things(having questions), but stay out of grown folks' business...I am excited about this film, but I know the heartache and joy that will come from it, for those who have known and know this life.
Dang, the trailer made me tear up, because I immediately put our son and his friends in the character’s shoes. Can’t wait to see it, so we can determine at what age we can let our son see it.
Damn those kids seem like great actors just from this
