This is the exact same experience I had with my friend. I had a great time in my 40 hour coop playthrough we couldn’t stop playing it. I think coop makes all the difference with this game. Thank you for being so honest
Saying a game is fun with friends is like saying you should eat when you're hungry. What game is not fun with friends? Games that are bad, become fun with friends. In the sense of a review, this is biased because A. some people don't have friends 😢and B. the gamer cannot buy your friend along with the game xD. So as reviewers, in my POV it's yalls job to describe why this is the best Coop experience compared to other games you could be playing with your friends. Like what makes it unique, what is going to keep you on it after you beat it. Not that coop is simply a better experience than single.
I wouldn’t say we’re biased, our channel is focused around reviewing co-op games. What makes a good or bad co-op game. And we’ve reviewed plenty of bad co-op games too. With Gotham Knights we point to how the objectives are built around co-op, each character plays differently encouraging you and your partner to play to your unique strengths, and the ways you can combo together like using different elements or co-op skills. In the end we’re saying Gotham Knights is a good co-op game for those reasons. If you can find friends to play with, great! Can’t really help with that if you don’t 😅
Your review perfectly summarizes what my friend and I have been experiencing, through our first several hours we kept saying "wtf are all these reviewers talking about? This game is dope!" We now realize that co-op was definitely the way to go and I'm hoping more people come to realize this and can enjoy everything this game has to offer.
Loved co-op until my friend decided to jump ahead in his file and now he’s so overpowered there’s literally no reason for me to bother help him which makes it very boring. I feel like all I’m doing is playing catch-up and only experiencing the story alone now. Defeats the the definition of co-op
Thank you for this review! I've watched quite a few reviews from usually great channels and I think few even _mention_ the existence of co-op when it was marketed as such from the get go. It's a shame how many entirely ignore this factor when there's so few AAA co-op game - and no wonder when this is the reaction. Great review, if we'll ever get another PS5 with my partner, we'll jump in!
Thanks for watching!! Yeah it was a very odd phenomenon how this game was reviewed. Don’t think it’s perfect but we believe it deserved a little more credit haha
Don't forget the 4 player Heroic Assault mode that was announced that will drop at the end of november! "Heroic Assault is an upcoming gameplay mode that is separate from the main story campaign. The standalone mode supports up to four players in online co-op and provides a dedicated arena-like environment with specific objectives to complete and enemies to defeat on each floor (30 floors total)." How exciting!
@@gregc.9313 the players choose who they want to play as right? like you can coordinate with the other players and choose a unique knight as to not break the immersion. This game lets you go through the whole game with a friend including dialouge in cutscenes. The new mode will make an arena that will cater to 4 players playing against cpus, that empirically sounds like co-op to me.
Awesome review guys, I'm glad to hear you both had fun with the game. I've been loving the game too. I've mostly played it in single player and while it's not without its faults there is fun to have. I've played some coop with my friend on it and that is were alot more fun can be found. I'd love to do a full coop run from start to finish on it. I really hope the game gets enough support to see some dlc, maybe more story an extra character that sort of thing.
Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed even in single player!! Yeah we kept saying the same thing- would love some DLC. I really hope they have the chance to refine this formula in a sequel too!
Because of your mindset of respecting and being passionate about co-op, you have gained another subscriber. My wife and I mainly play co-op than any other style of gaming and we therefore look at the next big games through that lens. When I heard about this game before its release, I was super excited. Then the reviews came out and they unjustifiably trashed it so bad (because they're not respecting co-op or being co-op minded) I was actually put off. But thanks to this video and your channel, it has reignited my childlike excitement for this game and I can't wait to play it. The developers mainly crafted this beautiful game with an emphasis on co-op and there aren't enough open world co-op games, so it is really disheartening to see co-op-centric games get so brutally targeted and it's the reason there aren't enough developers creating games that are all about the co-op campaign. What reviewers don't understand is that these massive co-op games are buggy, not optimized well enough, etc. because developers don't wanna place all bets on their co-op titles and I believe they hold back in effort purely because of the hostile competitive/anti-co-op community that only judges co-op games through the single-player/competitive lens. Even though I don't always agree with your points, I have to thank you for these kinds of reviews. You guys are legends and don't stop doing what you're doing.
does co-op affect the story? say i'm playing as Nightwing and another person joins and plays as Red Hood. and then we go do a story mission does their character show up in my cutscenes? or am i still technically solo?
does anyone know if this game has a seamless coop mod for 4 players?, we wanted to play the open world but we can't played it, so is there a way to play the open world with 3-4 players?
I couldn't get behind the Arkham games combat but this looks really fun and way less clunky. They can walk circles around the bat from what I've seen. Co-op looks like it would be the way to go. Thanks for vid.
For those of you just now jumping into the game fresh; if you have a buddy that is double your level you’re gonna get bored really fast because there will be no reason for you to help out. You essentially just end up playing catch up the whole time and unless that’s your thing it’s gonna get fried real fast. Co-op in hypotheticals only isn’t fully co-op, change my mind.
thanks for this review. I was very excited about this game until reviews came out. I ended up not purchasing it. After watching you guys review im definitely gonna give it a shot!!
Hell yeah, I love disagreeing with the status quo. And it's funny -- some games really are totally different with a friend. Games like Castle Crashers for example which I had an excellent time with; I'm not so sure I'd have cared much if I played it solo. Great review, bros. If I ever play this, I'll be sure not to go it alone!
Honestly my game is the year and that's coming from someone who owns and completed elden ring. I've played it solo and co-op with a friend. I haven't had this much fun all year
If you and a friend can pick this up on a sale together we think it’s worth your while. Just some really fun co-op melee shenanigans, nothing wrong with that!
Truly having a blast playing this game in CO-OP…. We can’t stop playing! Gotham Knights is a fun game and a great game when playing together! It is worth the buy if your a DC comic fan and are wanting to take time to build up your strengths together with a friend! Thank you for this review!
Do you guys have a discord? trying to find someone to coop with, not much luck on the games discrod so i figured why not try here in channel dedicated to coop games
This game is so fun with my best friend we having a blast playing the story together fighting Mr Freeze and Clayface together was so fun and doing crimes and roaming the city together is dope
Reviews really missed the mark with this because they want it to be part of the Arkham series. This game is an RPG. The Arkham series is an action/adventure series. This is the AC Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla to the AC 1-4’s.
Thank you for saying that!!! I hated the constant comparisons to Arkham. I kept feeling it was way closer to the Spider-Man games than anything else. Assuming a comparison like that is just setting a game up for failure.
How games should and shouldn't be reviewed is big for this game. A lot of reviews tackle this game as if they are playing Arkham 4 and that just doesn't work, the developers never implied that is what they were making. It isn't just that it is co-op making it different, it is that the game is an RPG. If you don't like RPG systems, you likely won't like the game.
Mmm having everyone have a skill tree that’s cooperative focused? I say no. Not everyone wants to play co-op creating a skill tree you most likely wouldn’t invest in but since you can unlock every skill it would be points placed last or not even use. The only active co-op skill I’ve used is batgirl’s everyone else’s is easily forgettable. I wonder if you both played on hard especially after hearing about the gearing system… Fun game, recommended but this review is meh seems like you’ve missed a lot.
First of thanks for watching! Our note on cooperative skill trees stemmed from the fact that Nightwing has one but the other characters don’t. Just felt a little odd to us but we see what you mean. We did play a large chunk of the game in Hard to test different difficulties. I’m not sure we missed out on anything really, we played through the whole game, played every character and tested numerous things. But we appreciate any feedback regardless!!
Honestly, the combat looks kinda weak. You're just wiffing punches at/through an enemy over and over. It's not none of the sense of actual contact or impact that made Arkham combat so _crunchy_ , where you'd hit someone and there was a really impactful sound-effect and the enemy would visibly stagger or flinch. You don't even have a counter/parry button, which at least forces you and your enemy to actually _touch_ Instead you seem to just be swinging your weapon _through_ the enemy over and over. The grabs look nice, but that's about it. Still, i've played games with worse combat in an attempt to find a decent co-op game. Maybe i'll pick it up when it goes on sale.
Yeah that’s totally fair observation. Honestly I think picking this up on sale is probably the best way to go. Helps with putting aside some lackluster elements in the game.
@@TheCoOpBros I'm still trying to convince my friend to get Dying Light 2, but he gets vertigo so it's an uphill battle, lol. I'm hoping the steam sales this Christmas are real persuasive.
The combat is actually much more complex once you level up. You can counter in GK you just need to do a perfect evade first. You have more control over the attacks, attack type, combos, elemental, AOE, ranged etc… then in the Arkham games… it will look more “impactful” in GK once you level up and master these skills. I thought the same thing when I first watched gameplay trailers of GK but once I got the game and started playing and leveling up and getting combos, perfect attacks and evades, plus character unique moves like Batgirls beatdown momentum ability I quickly found out that I was wrong.
That’s fair, we aren’t saying that those games wouldn’t be fun alone. More so saying that if you reviewed those games without considering the multiplayer/co-op aspect you’d be missing out on a big part of that experience. Which is the argument we’re making with Gotham Knights
I’m having a blast playing solo. I’ve had randos jump in here and there, but I’ve played 95% solo, bouncing back and forth between characters and it’s been great.
