Back around 1984 or 85, my friend and I saved every penny and we each bought a Kramer Baretta because that's what Eddie was playing at the time. I think they were 800 or 900 bucks. A ton of money for a 16yo! Was a great guitar, I really wish I still had it.

I still have a Kramer Baretta that has a sustainer in it. I got it from MusicYo in early 2000s for $400. I also still have the Kramer Striker thin body like an Ibanez "S" series in white with black and red "Splatter" paint. Those were only $189. God I miss MusicYo.

I actually bought a Kramer Barretta for blues and rock. I was looking at other guitars in the store and wasn't feeling anything then I decided to pick up the Kramer just to rock out and clear my head and fell in love with it. It just felt great and sounded great playing heavier Texas style blues. I put a tone control in it and it's been my number one now for the last year.

I had a red sparkle metallic Kramer Pacer Limited Edition with the 2 Duncan pickups, Floyd 1000 and maple body and it just felt like it was 50 lbs and sounded kinda weak, but then I went and bought a Kramer Baretta "The 84" in Radiant Red with the single JB in the bridge and the alder body and I like that guitar as much as my Charvel San Dimas. Feels and players very similar, and I consider Charvels to feel and sound pretty much perfect. I think it just depends on what ya like. Wouldn't buy another maple body personally. If anyone wants an absolutely awesome guitar that flies under the radar sometimes in price, go grab an EVH 5150. Every bit as good as a Charvel, usually for a little less used.

I didn't even think that they made acoustics. I still have it & it gets played a lot out on my balcony on weekends by Me & my Friends & even my Neighbours. I wanted one like this one because I was right into Van Halen at the time. I love this channel. Cheers Robert.

Robert, I think the last time I had a Kramer in my hands, it had one of the ancient aluminum "boat anchor" necks on it! Mid to late 80s, we're talkin'.
Now, Robert, I'm going to take you to task on the subject of clean tones -- because I like your stuff; none of this is intended to knock you at ALL, though. You expressed your opinion and I have a different one that I'm going to talk about. One of these days, I might tell you what I say about opinions. In the meantime, much of our difference is a cultural thing. You are and always have been a rocker, whereas I came up in the completely different bag of 60s, 70s and 80s soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, funk and funk rock. Most of those musics feature guitars played with what I call "jazzy cleanliness," or I say the tone is "jazzy clean." NO distortion. Zero. Nada. The emphasis here is on tone, rhythm and THE POCKET, as opposed to that (wonderful and absolutely addictive) rocker's roar of distortion. Now, I will admit that there are some few funk, funk rock, and similar songs played with crunchy rhythm parts, and distorted leads find their way all over the place, but the great lion's share of music I heard back then was loaded with that clean stuff. Think Motown's Funk Brothers and Stax' Booker T and the MGs. I grew up loving that stuff, dancing to it, and eventually playing it. Yes, I did branch out into outright rock later, after growing up a bit more, but the clean country is my origin point, where I'm still mostly at.
Also understand that, when I was playing out, I was always in a cover band and brought exactly one guitar ... the one I owned. It had to do everything, so it had to be Versatile with a capital V. I can't imagine any single pickup guitar that would have answered that mail to my satisfaction, then or now. But, yeah ... all that really means is that those guitars are not for me and that I know it. Those guitars exist for good reasons and are wonderful for those who have those needs. To each player, the right gear!
So now that I'm not playing out that way, don't HAVE to be versatile if I don't want to, and have the resources to get one fairly easily, why don't I buy a single pickup guitar now? Because old habits die hard and I see no reason to kill that one now. I'm good. I hope WE'RE good, too.

Just thought of the perfect 80s guitar for me: The white-all-over with mirror pickguard superstrat feature in Robert Palmer's "Addicted To Love" video. Had a close brush with it back in the day, but developed a taste for metal-styled guitars and bought a Peavey Tracer with 24 frets, HSS pickups and that thin Vandenberg neck instead.

Not my first guitar but the first guitar I ever bought for myself was a white Kramer Striker V. When I got it home I noticed a crack on the body near the neck. I returned it to the store and exchanged it for a Kramer ST. I think it was a 300ST. Years later I realized that crack in the V was probably just in the paint finish. I could kick myself! A few guitars later (Ibanez), I gave my first guitar (no name) and my Kramer to nephews (about 6 yrs old at the time) thinking they might be interested as they got older. A few years after that (mid-90s) I asked my sister about those guitars. She informed me that my bro-in-law sold them at a yard sale. She never would tell me how much because "it wasn't much." Obviously that still bugs me to this day.

I have to speak out about this guitar. I have a Kramer Baretta of my own, great guitar and outstanding value for the money. Got it brand new, under 300 Canadian. I have the purple one, but it also comes in Ruby Red and Candy Blue. Same price. Was looking into getting a Bumblebee yellow one, shocked to see it listed at 1100 bucks! Same guitar, just a different color. Kramer can go shove this one you know where, a shameless money grab just for the yellow paint.

    • @ariavergil9631
      @ariavergil9631 Місяць тому

It's not just for a different paint color, the Kramer Baretta, as opposed to the Baretta Special, has a Seymour Duncan humbucker and Floyd Rose instead of in house components. Idk how pricing works in Canada but on the website the regular Baretta is listed at $799 US. Considering the Baretta Special is listed at $229 US I feel like that's a decent price for the upgrades and convenience of not having to install them yourself.
Now. They could DEFINITELY do a better job of explaining the difference between them lol.
Not a fanboy comment or anything, just wanted to point out it's not the exact same guitar with a different color. ❤️

After their demise you never really saw them so I was thrilled when I saw a review and ended up getting the Purple Baretta Special beginning of last year and it's such a fun pick up and go guitar! The trem is cheap but the pickup is very close to a DiMarzio Super Distortion to my ears. And it's got that vibe that forces you to play a certain a way. Great fun for the price!

Beautiful. Very much like my 1st real guitar, a Fender contemporary - Japanese made, black painted headstock, Burgundy mist pink metallic, killer. One humbucker, one volume. Simple.

I had a Focus (I think that's what it was) and a Kramer acoustic as a young man. I miss it. Though what I have now certainly is or could be considered better instruments, I definitely would get one again .

My first good guitar was a red krammer focus 2000. It was super nice with a floyd. That was 1986. And i have to say the 80's was the greatest time ever

My first guitar in the 80’s was a red and black one, I think a Striker? But it was kinda not great. But earlier this year grabbed a new Beretta in that sick hot pink aka “Ruby Red” and it’s SO great for the 80’s stuff. Love the single JB. Now I want another Kramer lol

I owned a 90’s striker it was nice. I think it was a Korean made one. It was black though. Not a fan of gloss black guitars so i sold it.

I own a Kramer Focus VT-211S. Even though it's a $150-200 budget hot rodded HSS strat it has one of the best feeling necks out of all my guitars. I would choose it over a Squire in the same price range any day of the week.
