The Darknet is considered a counter-reaction to the World Wide Web and aims to enable a completely uncensored communication protected from monitoring. As one might expect, the anonymity offered there is used in both socially desirable and ethically undesirable ways. Just as well, it raises a wide variety of contradictions in other respects. Darknet expert Stefan Mey and the curator of the exhibition "Data Ctrl Centre" Daria Kuziawa discuss the Darknet as a counter-model to today's totally monitored Internet.
Stefan Mey is a freelance technology journalist in Berlin, comes from Halle/Saale and is part of the journalist group Schnittstelle. He studied sociology and media science in Halle, Berlin and Potsdam. He writes for various media about social and political questions of digitalization. He is the author of a non-fiction book about the Darknet (Darknet: Weapons, Drugs, Whistleblowers published by C.H.Beck).
