  • Watch the full speech of King Charles as the monarch switched between fluent German and English in a historic address.
King Charles III made history on Thursday 30 March, becoming the first British monarch to address the Bundestag, Germany’s federal parliament.
The monarch delivered the opening part of his speech in German before switching to English to share how important visits to the country were for his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Charles then continued his address, switching between German and English multiple times, and received a standing ovation after he finished.
His wife Camilla, Queen Consort, was watching on from the Bundestag floor.

His whole family are literally German, so obviously he speaks it. The house of Windsor was called the house of Saxe-Coburg and Gothe and spent most of their time in Hannover (Up until the unification of Germany in 1870) and was called as such, embracing their German ancestry until 1917 when King George V (His grandfather literally didn't even speak English) changed it for obvious reasons... Doesn't really show anything, just that he can speak both of his native tongues tbh.

"For an english"? I'm Scottish and even I find that insulting. I've studied German to a reasonably high level and, albeit not fluent, can get by WITHOUT a printed speech written by a flunkie. His family was German, but, even so, I don't believe, from watching that effort, he's at all fluent, albeit coached to a mediocre level to get a bit of an accent going. Having said that, all of the people I've spoken to in Germany have been very happy to let me practice my German, unlike the Parisians who won't let you speak French even when their English is worse than your French. If you can speak rapidly without letting them get a word in edgeways, you've cracked it. For someone with his privileged life, he should be much better educated than he actually is. He bandies words, like democracy, about and there's been precious little of that in evidence in either Germany or the UK in recent years. He's not even the genuine King. Uncrowned with a crown that hasn't belonged to the UK for 800 years and without the real Stone of Destiny upon which to be crowned, it's no wonder his mother didn't sign her coronation oath correctly. To do so would have been a massive fraud. People are waking up to the charade being perpetuated by these monsters.

So, thank you very much, Charles! Besides, his German might actually be better than Olaf Scholz‘s English.
