My first visit to the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier was in the summer of 2015. As a veteran, watching this Honored ceremony I was taken aback by the walk of the Sentinels.
I consider what the guard does, is not only beautiful, but so very respectful, and honorful. Yes, and I hope no one ever disrespects them. Coz they are wonderful.
Lol. Fu+k the tomb of the unknown. Fu+k the USA. Fu+k the men of the armed forces and this joke of a tomb. Elk drive. Dunlap tn. Bet no man can stop me from talking
Sgt Hanks, thank you for your years of service. At Excelsior Middle School in California we are so proud of youn as a graduate of our school. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us at Arlington in June of this year. You made quite the impression on the students and parents! That talk can be seen at ua-cam.com/video/dHxmsZ_tmVE/v-deo.html
When I saw the Changing of The Guard, not only did they ask for silence and standing, but they also asked for no flash photography. Probably because it was raining a little that day.
I just watched this again, and if I'm not mistaken they do exchange orders. The Guard farthest (facing me), you can see him saying something during that part. It might be just too low to be heard....
As long as you remain silent, standing where appropriate, and behind the chains & rails you will be fine And. They are amazing… highest gratitude to them!
I was under the impression that due to no-one knowing the rank of the Unknown solders, the Sentinals were not to be of rank that could be higher, hence they should only be privates.Or has the tradition been changed? Irrespective, their commitment to the honour of guarding the Tomb is much appreciated.
Sentinels are all ranks up to E-7 (E-6s are Relief Commanders, E-7 is Sergeant of the Guard). Sentinels changing the guard wear rank but those walking the mat never wear rank.
I know right? I was told I was much too short which I think is very unfair. Every serviceman should have the honor to stand Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I remember the recruiter telling me you have to be 6' feet tall at least. That would rule out most Latin females like me since most of us are on the short side to average side.
Margaret Tudor That's not how it works. They have to seem opposing.....A 5'0 male/female would look weak....Which you don't want that description to belong to a Sentinel.
Greetings everyone!! I live in Brazil, I do not speak English and I do not write English !! I would like to know what the sergeants are talking to the public that watches the guard change !! Please answer me !! It can be in English myself that I translate !! Thank you very much!!
At the beginning, the sergeant explains to the public that they will be watching the changing of the guard ceremony, and asks the public to remain silent and standing as a show of respect.
Ladies and Gentlemen, May I have your attention please. I am Sergeant Hanks of the Third Infantry Regiment, United States Army, Guard of Honor, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The ceremony that you are about to witness is the changing of the guard. In keeping with the dignity of this ceremony it is requested that everyone remain silent and standing....thank you.
Fair enough. I've removed the banners per your suggestion. I simply realized not too many people knew the history of The Old Guard. I didn't think it was too distracting, but appreciate your opinion.
Jerry Gowins Jr. That's funny cause when I wanted to join the old gaurd when I was a young army scout, I was told that I could not because my MOS was not Infantry. Guess the PC police is making regulations now.
I thought the same thing, thought you had to be Infantry. Would be awesome to be a part of this group. I've always had the utmost respect for them and what they do and more importantly why they do what they do. Every year I take a group of 8th graders from Ohio to DC, this is always my favorite stop.

What impresses me, is the guards all believe the unknowns are worthy of perfection, everyday, all the time.
I am a scout and I can feel a bit of perfection of those clicks devoted to the Unknown Soldiers. Wow!
I can sit and watch this all day long
yeah but you're supposed to stand.....(grin)
I consider what the guard does, is not only beautiful, but so very respectful, and honorful. Yes, and I hope no one ever disrespects them. Coz they are wonderful.
One of the most well executed silent modes I’ve seen. Outstanding!
In a battle, I want to be on Sgt. Hanks' side.
Awesome ramrod straight lady
Damn straight
Whoever disrespects tomb guards should be thrown into jail.
Lol. Fu+k the tomb of the unknown. Fu+k the USA. Fu+k the men of the armed forces and this joke of a tomb. Elk drive. Dunlap tn. Bet no man can stop me from talking
I would rather see anyone who disrespects the tomb be barred for life!
I've watched this ceremony several times with different soldiers, and it is always moving and incredible.
Yep and it being standardized helps a lot with that
The silent changing of the guard is just way too cool.
Sgt Ruth Hanks = Badass!! With Dignity, Honor and Respect I thank you for all of your service.
She is doing what countless men did for decades. So what.

This makes me proud to be an American citizen. I am only 12 an d I think that these guards deserve the utmost respect. They have mine.
Morgan 1900, mine too
When I saw the Changing of The Guard, not only did they ask for silence and standing, but they also asked for no flash photography. Probably because it was raining a little that day.
First time I've seen it without voice commands. Impressive!!
Me too. I think I like it better with the commands.
Same.
I just watched this again, and if I'm not mistaken they do exchange orders. The Guard farthest (facing me), you can see him saying something during that part. It might be just too low to be heard....
I think he just moved his lips, you should have been able to hear it.
What I understand is, If they are in ear shot of an ongoing funeral, they use limited commands. It's communicated by heels and toe drags.
ONE OF FEW ! .. A true TREASURE in our Armed Forces...... THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE !
When SSGT Hanks was inspecting the rifle, the bolt didn't close when she hit the butt. She later fixed it manually. Excellent recovery!
Sergeant not Staff Sergeant
Their drill is impeccable
I’m terrified yet amazed at the same time at these Guards.
As long as you remain silent, standing where appropriate, and behind the chains & rails you will be fine
And. They are amazing… highest gratitude to them!
Thank you for your service sergeant hanks
The staff sergeant is Officer Hank..She plays no games.., i am glad she passed the new guard
Sergeant
I was there in 1984. Every American should go there, the younger the better. It WILL affect your perspective.

GodBless thank you you U.N. song heroes god has a special house for you or he would of not so truly thank you GodBless
Beautiful 🙌
Patxi del Norte indeed.
that's a first. No commands from ASGT Hanks
It's a common practice if there is a funeral close by.
Theyve obviously changed the physical standards since I was in. She does not look like she is 5'8.

She is 5’8. Video was just taken from too far away
She met all standards.

Just like Sgt Hanks I lived in Texas

I cant belive she is 2LT and relief commander now.
Why?
Silent switch!
Wait they can do the change of the guard without saying the orders?
Often times if there is a funeral procession nearby they will go into this silent mode out of respect.
Orders are always given. During a silent guard change, they are passed on very quietly.
@@JGowins65 But orders are always passed.
yes...

+Jerry Gowins Jr. I would have kept them up!
Has anybody ever been arrested for not doing as they were told
Not to date.
No. But you don’t want to be warned more than once
@@CasimusxPrime FYI: The 3rd Old Guard has "active duty" military police on this Honored site 24/7.
Thought you had to be Infantry to join the old gaurd??
Apparently not.

Jerry Gowins Jr. Im from ohio as well! We went in 8th grade as well. Sealed the deal for me to serve.
MPs have been at the Tomb for about 25 years.

Почему же?
So a girl does it and its a big deal?? About damn time!
About time? First female Tomb Guard received her Badge in 1996.
