  • I have a huge 55 inch TV (it's bigger than me). I also have an old Hi-Fi stereo video recorder from the Samsung brand. I will connect these devices and watch old movies on VHS tape. I will show you the instructions in detail in this video.
To connect the VCR to SMART TV we will need:
    TV
    video recorder
    3RCA cables
    VHS tape
Watch my video and subscribe to the channel!

@Natalie, your so called "old VCR" is not so old at all. I've seen much older devices with a top loading mechanism. Your device is a DVD/VCR combo device from the last days of an VHS era. Anyway, it is a nice gear. I would like to play with that "toy" for sure. Greetings!

The VHS tape has Finnish subtitles! That means, this UA-cam channel is made in Finland!

I live in Ukraine, and this is where I bought these video tapes (most likely the previous owner went on a trip to Finland and bought these tapes there).@@siljapedersen9281

Excellent vid...simple and concise! 💓 One question: Can I record with the VHS/DVR setup as you have after completing completing the connection to my Smart tv? I have a Sony and am USA based. If you would reply I sure would appreciate it. Thanks! 🙏♐

What if it doesn't work as simply as this? I am having trouble with my tv finding the channel of the VCR... Even though it has analog/composit connections.

    •  5 місяців тому +2

You have to change the input. You would use a channel for the VCR if you used an antenna cable for connecting them.
If you are having trouble changing the input on your TV, refer to the operating manual.

@lunalicrichard on the remote for the TV, it's most likely a button marked with an arrow going into a circle, or a button marked AV you may need to press it multiple timed to get the correct input

Virtually everything on VHS was displayed at 4:3 ratio as standard as everyone were using 4:3 CRT tellies. It was only towards the end of the VHS era that people were starting to buy widescreen CRT tellies but VHS didn't catch up with that so we had to watch VHS movies with the black bars on the side. Yes, it was possible to use the telly setting to display VHS movies as widescreen or full screen but only for it to look stretched or with top and bottom lopped off. When DVD did catch on, movies in them was shown as windscreen as standard as by that point more people were owning widescreen tellies (be it CRTs or LED) anyway. Those still using CRT 4:3 telly were seeing black bars at top and bottom and "zooming" in caused the picture to look squashed or have sides lopped off.

Later VHS machines with SCART sockets (in Europe), could correctly play wide, Pin 8 in the SCART lead had previously been used to automatically turn the TV to AV input when play was pressed on the VCR. This was expanded on so this pin controlled the wide-screen setting.

    •  5 місяців тому +4

Nothing wrong with the settings. The tape has 4:3 pan & scan aspect ratio. If you were to fill the whole 16:9 screen, you'd get a "stretched" Image or woud have to zoom in, and lose the top and bottom parts of the picture. Either way it would be bad.

    •  5 місяців тому

@@cwork5485 Even that only works with an anamorphic widescreen tape, and there aren't many. If the tape is 4:3, there's not much you can do about it.
