Just save your deck in the saving machine back at the lab, then dismantle it and make a new deck that way. You keep all your cards and if you want your old deck, just build it from the save machine.
Hey Jared, totally forgot to mention this in the last video, but if you want a lot of energy, you can go back to the lab and duel someone there, I think the guy you fought in the tutorial? If you win, you get a booster pack of 10 all energy cards, and you can do this over and over. Don't do the practice fight or you have to redo the tutorial, but I think you can do the same fight just not as practice (i.e., you can make your own moves, but you'll get the exact same draws and turns as you did in the tutorial, you just have free will). Just try it out when you get a chance maybe off camera if you need tons of energy.
@@babassoonist557 you also get all Energy if you do the tutorial again also, while you're in the lab, go to the deck saving machine and save your decks. that way, you can just delete decks if you need the cards in them, and then quickly rebuild them when needed.
Not sure where Jared is in his recording cycle but I hope he reads this/figures this out in the next run of episodes. That guy is crucial for getting extra energy cards.
I am enjoying this series so much. I hope it leads to more series on computerised card games - listening to you discuss tactics for a game you're intimately familiar with is super entertaining.
The monster rancher Tcg on the gameboy color was another favorite game of mine i played on the gameboy color.its even better than the real monster rancher card game. Since they have different rules for their guts system i think.
Don't you usually need to beat all the club members before you can challenge the club leader? You did miss the other member in Murray's room; walked right past him.
Murray's room is weird. At first I thought Murray was a regular NPC myself when I first played against him, as Club Masters are usually where that one NPC is...
@@Crunkman2k Huh. I did not know that. Actually looked it up to check, and indeed, says Murray requires four medals first. Guess I never noticed during my playthroughs.
I dunno why, but I seriously love watching Jared play card games. MtG was awesome and this is also cool to watch, mostly cause as a kid I never learned how to actually play the Pokémon TCG! Also the music is timeless and catchy as heck. Keep it up Jared
A while back, I was actually in the process of remixing every single song in this game, and then releasing it all around the same time. Unfortunately, I was almost done with the fifth track when the laptop I was using started to die on me. *D:* Hopefully I can get that data back so I don't have to start all over again. Some spoilers for later on in the game: the "Legendary Pokemon cards" that are talked about are a set of cards of Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Dragonite that are exclusive to this game. The only one that was made into a real-world card is the Dragonite (and only in Japan), due to the Legendary Birds cards all involving completely random effects much like that Meowth card Jared started with. Scans of all four do exist, though. The four Grand Masters, which are analogous to the Elite Four, each use one of the four in their decks, in the order of Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno and Dragonite. Also, that particular Mew was in the Japanese version of the Fossil set, but was made into a promo card for the English release.
You ask why for the de-evolution spray: It clears debuffs and allows you to switch specific evolutions, so you could go from one set to another's, or to swap from say Flareon to Jolteon.
Go back to the lab. Save your deck in the deck saving machine and then dismantle it; you can use the machine to rebuild the deck later on. And while you're there, please, fight the guy who gives you energy cards.
I'm saying it again here as it's the most current episode. This strategy worked most of the time. I recall the coin flip being easy to read. Like, if it's in the middle of the tails spin before your flip it, it'll usually land on heads, but if it's at the beginning of the tails spin before you flip, when you flip, it'll become a tails again. Yeah, I remember a pattern being easy to plan for.
There was one Raichu (I think it was lvl 45 or 49) that dealt 10 damage to up to 3 bench pokemon. That one worked pretty well with Gengar, since you could stockpile damage on an unevolved benched Pokemon, or just redirect it to the one in field. It was fun, at least, but only very long battles allowed for both on the field.
I use that setup all the time in this game. I don't think the AI takes bench attacking of that level of complexity into account, so if you set up correctly then you can pretty much win any fight in the game. I make sure that I have 3 Gengar in my deck and fossil Haunter to evolve into Gengar after setting up a Raichu or two. I sometimes include Dodrio in decks like these just to give Raichu an easier time with retreating to either a ghost or another Raichu.
Easier to just create a deck with all energy and 1 basic pokemon, use all your energys, if you need to create multiple decks for this do it, talk to an Aide, and he will give you 10 of each energy, you can repeat this process a couple times.
17:23 I only just realised now that Psyduck is looking into a pond and seeing his reflection. All this time I thought he was doing a trapeze act inside of a circus tent full of people.
I like your new deck. You made a good choice going with mahogany floor boards, it's covered which is perfect for eating outside on rainy days, and I like your choice of a large size jacoozy good for those coed parties son.
The card you got for going to see the film was Ancient Mew. The original Mew promo was actually supposed to be in the Fossil expansion (and is in its Japanese counterpart) but was removed and turned into a promo that (I think) was given out at Pokémon League or card shops. Mew semi-regularly showed up in sets or as a promo (often both) since then.
And Dark (mainstream games, also known as "Aku"/"Evil" in Japan) vs Darkness (TCG). And colorless is just Normal and Flying (and it also used to be Dragon until Dragon got their own typing in the TCG). However, none of those bother me. What really bothered me was Poison shifting from Grass to Psychic in the TCG.
There are _many_ such differences. Normal => Colorless Flying => Colorless Poison => Grass (originally) or Psychic (modern day) Ground => Fighting Rock => Fighting Bug => Grass Ghost => Psychic Steel => Metal Electric => Lightning Ice => Water Dragon => Colorless (originally) Dark => Darkness It is actually easier to count which Types *kept* their video game names: Dragon (modern day), Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Psychic, and Water. If we *exclude* the ones that share their Type-name with others, it drops to just Dragon (modern day), Fairy, and Fire. Dragons *used* to be part of Colorless and Fairy was added in the XY-era, so really Fire is the only one that was a direct translation from video games to the TCG the entire time! *Note:* Originally this comment included "Fight=>Fighting" in the list of Type name changes, as I didn't realize that "Fight" was simply intended as an abbreviation. The Type labels you'll find in the games and many other official materials abbreviate any Type name that is longer than six letters... and I didn't notice that. I just took it as a different kind of oddity, even though it makes less sense to assume it was written one way but said (even by in-game dialog) a different way. Thanks to GerikDT for pointing this out.
@@GerikDT Yes and no. I think even in-game PC's refer to it as the Fighting Type... but look at the *actual* in-game labels; it is "Fight" Type. Weird, huh?
Honestly this has been an unexpectedly great series. I've never played the Pokemon TCG before, but this series has actually gotten me into it. Since the second episode aired, I've actually gone and played the sequel to this game all the way through. It's Japan-only, but there's a fan-made english patch available. I hope after this series raps up you consider checking that game out too! It's called "Pokémon Card GB2: Here Comes Team GR!" and it pretty much DOUBLES the game's contents Gold/Silver style, adds TONS of new cards, adds a Game Corner, let's you play as a boy or a girl, and actually continues the story of the first game. Also I find it funny now that after beating that game I actually know how to play the TCG, but I'm still 20 years behind the meta lol. edit: Oh! And in the sequel you can actually save multiple decks that share the same cards in them without any problems!
If you're up for it, you _could_ give the Pokémon TCG Online a try. It is one of the free-to-play games that kind of lives up to the term. The Pokémon Company views it as a way for new players to try out the game and for current players to get a bit more for their money... because the "pay-to-play" side of things is just cashing in redemption code cards that come with booster packs, premade decks, etc.
Back at the starting lab, there is a machine you can save your deck setup at. This could allow you to save your bug deck setup, and then you can dismantle it for the cards you need in other decks without having to remember what you had set up before.
Jared! In the machine, in the labs right room, in the bottom left corner, you can save deck recipes! It'll deconstruct your deck so you don't need duplicates of cards!
youre probably my favorite youtuber, youve got this feel of awesome older brother that knows everything and is just fun to hang around with so, on the off chance you see this, thanks bud. i appreciate you c:
This has gotta be my favorite series on YT at the moment, I look forward to each new episode and watching Jared play TCGs is just so much fun! Really makes me want to restart my copy of this game
If you want to farm more cards look for Imakuni!!! He's really easy to beat and he gives one of each booster pack. You can spam farm him too. Find him in one of the gyms side rooms, battle him, save, reset the game, and repeat. It's what I did to get cards I wanted/needed. He also has his own jammin' theme song XD
When I played this game, I often used my "I'm gettin' Charizard" deck. It consisted of 4 Charmander, 4 Charmeleon, some Charizard, a couple of Computer Search cards and Breeders and tons of fire energy. It's ways more effective than you'd think. :D
As others pointed out, you really should farm some energy in Mason's Lab! Also I adore both Ms Editor's notes and how you pretend as if it's a real Pokemon battle. You are friggin adorable.
Hey Jared! Another cool thing to remember, is that defenders can also decrease Self-Destruct damage. So with a setup of self-destruct, defenders, Mr.Fuji and potions, you can make your own Boom Boom deck! :p Combine that with Gengars Curse, and you have lots of damage fun! :)
If you go back to Mason Laboratory and enter the room on the right, there is a trainer you can fight however many times you like. When you beat him he gives you booster packs of nothing but various energy cards. That's how I gathered the energy to make my decks, thought it might help. : )
i never played this game, but somehow watching this series gives me the best kind of nostalgia :'^) love watching this series! really glad it seems like others enjoy it too 👌
There’s a trainer back at the lab you can duel, and his booster packs are just energy cards. You can grind his decks if you’re hurting for energy. Every time I play this game, that’s my first goal, grind up energy cards.
Hurrah, just before i wanted to shut off cause there was nothing new i saw this popping up. i really enjoy these series, just like the magic the gathering one :D thanks for uploading one today Jared
Definitely agreed with others - it's so fun to hear thought processes while playing! I always liked the TCG but never understood it so this just makes me happy. I'm so excited every time I get a notification it's updated!! Good luck Jared! ❤
Electabuzz is actually a really really good card, and pretty much the 3rd member of the haymaker decks that included the Hitmonchan and Scyther that you keep mentioning.
Hey Jared. When you get to a new session, you can battle one of the lab assistants for only energy cards in the lab! It can give you massive amounts of energy cards if you want
In order to be able to duel each club master you have to beat each other trainer at least once. Also if you see a guy in all black at the top on the left hand room of any of the clubs talk to him and duel him (he gives you the "best" card I the game...). Lastly an extra tip on the guy in masons lab you can duel for energy, he will eventually not duel you, at that point make extra decks of the energy cards with one basic pokemon and he will duel you again.
i can only thing of the deevolution spray being good in an eevee deck, since they can evolve to different element types, like if you have a flareon, but then they pull out a water type pokemon, so you could respond with one of those and then make them into a joltion instead.
thanks for picking electabuzz!!! hes one of my faves!! the lab where you first start has matches for specific energy boosters, though im probably late in saying this. I started episode 1 earlier and i havent stopped! this is one of my fave games, im hyped to see you play this~
There's a guy who you can duel in the starting area (I think) who gives you just energy boosters if you beat him. It's probably been said before, but just in case...
What's this? Jared has put up his Bug catcher's net in exchange for spoons? Worry not fellow viewers, Jared has always been a tough cookie, so I'm certain his new deck can help him defeat the one that stands between him and the PSYCHIC Medal, Murray! Will his new PSY-SHOCK team stand tall against his foes? Will we see the return of Caterpie, Pinsir, and Scyther? Let's find out on the next episode fellow viewers.
Something about TCG strategic games Im somewhat familiar with, is farily entretaining to listen and watch. Specially when is "simpler" than current day TCGs where there is soooo much going on every freaking second.
ProTip 4 ProJared: There is a machine in Dr. Mason's Lab(Side Room-Right Side) that can record your decklists. It's the best work-around for the game's "All decks must be fully assembled at all times" rule. As for yer Question of the Video(QotV) I'm glad your new deck got its 1st win, but please remember *If you had flipped TAILS on your Pokè Ball Trainer card you lost that game instead* #NeverStopDeckTweeking
Jared! I doubt it'll help by now lol but here's some tips! You should revisit Mason's Lab, you can enter the room to the right and fight a certain lab assistant. Upon defeat he will give you one booster pack of pure energy cards! And in the same room you can insert any medals you've won into the machines that are in there! The machines will show you premade deck recipes! There's also a machine that lets you save your decks. Also you should look for Imakuni? (Idk the spelling of their name) This character spawns randomly in one of the club's lobbies pretty much every time you get a medal. They're one of the best characters in the game to duel, they are a joke, super easy to beat and they will give you 4 booster packs, one of each type!! also you can trigger Mason's emails early by just talking to each leader and saying 'no' to the duel. :) I grew up with this game, never beat it though, it gets hard. Ronald will get a lot harder to beat as well, trust me. Anyway, I'm really enjoying this, hearing your thought process and seeing Ms. Editor's comments are great too! Much love!
Jared if you go back to the lab, where you first got your deck, there is a guy you can dual that only give energy cards! Please like this so he can see this :)
Loving this series Jared, and hope you play it all the way through. If you're looking for good-but-not-the-super-powerful cards, consider Lickitung and Jigglypuff. Both make for efficient stallers - the former has a lot of HP and cheap status-inducing attacks, while the latter has a 1-energy attack that guarantees the Sleep condition. I also rate Magmar and Haunter (both from Fossil) for similar reasons.
Guessing that the entire series is already recorded or something... but you can save your decks at a computer in Mason's lab, so you can save your decks, and use all of your cards on a new deck.
Jared, try make a deck revolving around one of the legendary brids in the game that you can get early on, they are powerful despite the high cost of energy they use, but they deal a ton of damage by either discarding like most strong cards or they keep them, i forget despite actually playing it on my 3DS, here's hoping you do well with the game
Also, I never figured out the use of a Devolution Spray. If it returned the evolution cards to your hand, I could see it being good for a Venusaur deck if not inferior to Scoop Up, but no, it discards them and is completely worthless. Possibly the most useless card in the base game, just not the most useless in this game.
Not even Psy Shock is a loss. Yes, you need to beat the 3 club members before fighting the gym leader. So you missed an opponent somewhere in the Science gym. Now go fight in the lab to get some energy lol
As I'm watching this, the back of my mind is reminding me that he hasn't gone to the contest hall and yet he's about to get another medal, shutting the door on that.
Wonder how many parts he records in advance. Just got some quality of life advice to give, such as fighting the scientist at the lab for boosters full of energy cards, or talking to the girl in the Water club to have Imakunai? show up to fight.
@3:20 I *hate* having to disagree with you, Ms. Editor, but it is only a "challenge" in the same sense that bad controls are a "challenge" in a platform game. XP Thankfully, the modern-day Pokémon TCG Online lets you use the same cards in multiple decks without "yanking" them from one deck to use in another. :)
My favourite thing right now is watching Jared play Pokémon TCG in the evenings.
Just save your deck in the saving machine back at the lab, then dismantle it and make a new deck that way. You keep all your cards and if you want your old deck, just build it from the save machine.

"...Ready for the slow burn of whatever this deck is."
Nah dood, you're just smelling your brain fry as you cling to life.
Oh I remember that Fossil Slowpoke! Such a weird interesting drawing.
Hey Jared, not to backset or anything but you can grind energy cards in the tutorial area. every pack gives you only energy
thanks for picking electabuzz!!! hes one of my faves!!
the lab where you first start has matches for specific energy boosters, though im probably late in saying this.
Hey, you missed another member in the psychic club, fight all members before fighting the boss :) loving the series btw :D
I think the best videos are the ones were you have the most fun
Pretty sure you can get a booster pack of nothing but energy cards from someone in Mason's Lab.
Something about TCG strategic games Im somewhat familiar with, is farily entretaining to listen and watch. Specially when is "simpler" than current day TCGs where there is soooo much going on every freaking second.
ProTip 4 ProJared:
There is a machine in Dr. Mason's Lab(Side Room-Right Side) that can record your decklists. It's the best work-around for the game's "All decks must be fully assembled at all times" rule.
As for yer Question of the Video(QotV) I'm glad your new deck got its 1st win, but please remember *If you had flipped TAILS on your Pokè Ball Trainer card you lost that game instead*
#NeverStopDeckTweeking
The Mewtwo Movie (the first one) VHS tape had a cool Mewtwo card in it
Buzz: You can’t devolve me; Elekid doesn’t exist yet!
Tip, battles in the laboratory you start in give energy cards.
I can't believe you used my deck name! I feel honored!
(Idk the spelling of their name)
This character spawns randomly in one of the club's lobbies pretty much every time you get a medal. They're one of the best characters in the game to duel, they are a joke, super easy to beat and they will give you 4 booster packs, one of each type!!
also you can trigger Mason's emails early by just talking to each leader and saying 'no' to the duel. :)
I grew up with this game, never beat it though, it gets hard. Ronald will get a lot harder to beat as well, trust me. Anyway, I'm really enjoying this, hearing your thought process and seeing Ms. Editor's comments are great too! Much love!
These videos bring me joy.
Kind of mad but in awe of how many coin flips go your way, especially the poke ball, I rarely get that off
If you go back to the Mason's Lab, and you go into the right side room there in a guy in there you can dual repeatedly for Energy booster packs.
the fight music in this game haunts me when I wake up sometimes.
Jared if you go back to the lab, where you first got your deck, there is a guy you can dual that only give energy cards! Please like this so he can see this :)
im so late to this series but can I just say he's having a much easier time then when i played
you can save decks in the machines at the lab so you can use the cards in your inventory without losing the deck
If I remember correctly, there was a haunter back in one of these sets that had a 50% chance to just not get hit.
Jared, In the lab of the professor, there is a guy that plays for a booster pack, full of energy cards! Loving the series ^_^
ProJared if you want more energy cards duel the people/machines at Dr. Mason's lab, they will give you booster packs full of energy cards.
Also, I never figured out the use of a Devolution Spray. If it returned the evolution cards to your hand, I could see it being good for a Venusaur deck if not inferior to Scoop Up, but no, it discards them and is completely worthless. Possibly the most useless card in the base game, just not the most useless in this game.
what i would do is write down the cards in your old deck, then dismantle it. that way you can rebuild it exactly, but can still use the cards.
Not even Psy Shock is a loss.
Yes, you need to beat the 3 club members before fighting the gym leader. So you missed an opponent somewhere in the Science gym. Now go fight in the lab to get some energy lol
You have to fight all the people in the psychic club before fighting Murray
Yes, there was a Mew...and there was also a promo Ancient Mew.
i wonder if he know about imakuni? yet.
I'm really enjoying this playthrough!
The reason why Austin and Jeff kept insisting psychic is weak to psychic: this game
"was there mew?" - wrong question.
"was this mew part of the regular set, or was it a movie promotional?" - correct question.
Jared needs murray senpai to notice him.
You should consider tripping next to him and getting unreasonably angry about it
In the professors lab the room to the left has a trainer that you can dule multiple times that gives you boosters of just energy cards.
@3:20
I *hate* having to disagree with you, Ms. Editor, but it is only a "challenge" in the same sense that bad controls are a "challenge" in a platform game. XP Thankfully, the modern-day Pokémon TCG Online lets you use the same cards in multiple decks without "yanking" them from one deck to use in another. :)
