I know you said you were late to the game on this show, but I have to say I was very excited to see when you started watching it. I think you're one of the most emotionally and morally insightful watchers on this site, and I always enjoy the analysis you give at the end of the episodes. You do your best to put yourself in characters' heads and really try to digest the messages and themes that the writers put into their works. This was a perfect series for you, because it was one that, among all of the drama and action, has so much empathy for its characters. Both as individuals and as a people of races and classes and circumstance. Thank you so much for giving this show and the rest of us your time, and your earnest thoughts and feelings about it. It's been a wonderful journey.
100% agree. Different reactors and different commenters have different takes and emphasise or empathise with different elements of the story and characters. Imon sees very deeply into the hearts of the characters
learning about how Holden signed on to that ship is CRITICAL to going back and understanding finally how he behaved the way he did in the first episodes.
Thanks for the reactions, Imon! I was so happy and surprised when you started these. I hope your example convinces some of my other favorite reactors to watch it too!
When I see Filip leaving the ship in the last scene, I recall that the last good memory they shared in his room was when she told him why she left. She said “walking away is the only choice any of us have.” I would like to believe he’s thinking about that when he walks off the bridge.
So happy to be here with you at the end of this amazing series. It's unfortunate that we don't get to see the rest of the Laconian arc, but there are books that do that... and maybe, who knows, someday we may see more of the story on screen. But I am very satisfied with how the rest of the threads were resolved. The juxtaposition of Naomi's words about helping someone even if you never get any feedback and Filip's decision to walk away from his father... just another example of how well this show was done, from concept all the way to our eyes and ears. I really enjoyed your reactions, this show punches above its weight in SO many ways!
Yeah, and I love that as we see Filip leave we hear Naomi telling Jim that you never know how something you’ve said might affect someone. You just know Filip is remembering Naomi’s words to him when he stands up and walks out. Beautifully written.
I'm really glad you got to experience this. Regarding the Marco/Holden dichotomy, Naomi delivered possibly the best insult in history in season 5. While she is captive on the Pella, Marco says something like "James Holden must be a great man to land someone like you." She just says "He's everything you pretend to be." I could write an essay on how many levels those 6 words work on. It almost made me feel bad for Marco. Keon Alexander did a good job portraying him.
12:17 in his last moment, marco is looking down and to one side - I think he's looking at the station where filip was supposed to be, and seeing he's not there
Im glad you went and rewatched those scenes. I did the same my first time watching. The scream to the consoling in the airlock was also so powerful. The ending speech is absolutely beautiful, perfect sendoff. I also really liked at the end of season 5, the recording she left for Holden that they listen to together after the Chetzemoka.
It’s been so great to follow your journey through this awesome series. I’m one of these people So in love with the show that that I’m watching it for maybe the 12th time, following different reactors. It’s quite special how you talk about the philosophical and emotional aspects - really great! I hope you consider to do a reaction to the shorts - there’s some great moments there, and it would be good to check in with the series one more time 😊
thank you for going on the whole Expanse journey! your reactions were unique and insightful. let's hope they adapt the remaining books someday! Also the scene of the Roci crew eating together in the galley before the final fight, adorable.
Such an amazing show. There are 3 more books that still need to be adapted. Rumor is, they are waiting for the actors to age up and for the rights to the show to revert back to Alcon.
there's a fan video that tied Naomi's final monologue there to Holden initially responding to the distress call in the first episode and i think that's really beautiful! Anyway, enjoyed the ride with you, Imon crew, and glad it got through any issues had with reuploads and stuff!
The series is full of powerful messages that touches our very humany, the way we are who we are. You say it right, you plant the seed of good where you can when you can and you hope it will grow. I believe the good we do, comes back to us eventually. The power of a smile, of a gentle touch, the power to forgive, to give a second chance. It has been a good ride. Thanks Imon.
I love watching reactions because every good reactor notices something I missed. I'd never thought before about how many of The Expanse's characters left their homes behind, thank you for that insight. You mentioned the shorts (bonus content/x-rays). Please, please, watch them soon; most of them need to be seen in the context of the episode they go with so do it while the season 6 episodes are fresh in your mind, or maybe on a binge rewatch. Also, on a completely different subject, but related because it's something you didn't get to for another series; are you going to do a reaction one day to the Last Kingdom movie - Seven Kings Must Die?
Was a helluva ride for me. Have re-watched the entire series a few times. My favorite part of this episode was watching Drummer become the leader. Puts a big smile on my face everytime I watch it.
There is a scene, when the space commandos are attacking the railgun array on The Ring Station, when we viewers are presented with maybe the greatest Easter egg, ever. We see a panel within a ship showing us the names of the commandos. Each name is a famous character from past TV, movie, or books, a hall of fame which lovers of the sci-fi genre would be expected to understand with just a brief glance. It is such a fine indication of how lovingly this great show was put together, by people who all loved sci-fi and would never allow the genre to be diminished by their own work on The Expanse, and a tribute to all those who put together those old bits of great entertainment for us to watch and be astonished by their awesmeness.
Hey Imon, its been a while HI NANNA(2023) is an absolute gem of a movie that needs a reaction from you. A movie made for a romantic that will pull your heart strings and make you fall in love. Trust me, you will be in awe. A genuine surprise for the audience
And here comes the end of our journey. If you are still intrigued by the characters, the Novels do continue further, but I would recommend starting from the beginning so you're not confused by the lacking of characters like Drummer who is a show only character etc. Some things like that may be confusing if picking up right where the show left off.
You're not wrong about Holden being space Jesus :) You know that scene at the negotiation table, with the ceiling light almost like a halo? Right at the end of it when Holden raises his hand in a gesture akin to benediction. There are a few paintings of the Last Supper where Jesus wears a grey tunic and holds up his hand almost in the same gesture. I would be amazed if that was not deliberate. And once you read the books, especially the last 3 that were not filmed, you'll definitely see the similarity.
We saw what happened when humans created Protomolecule hybrids. What we see in Xan is how the Protomolecule creates its hybrids. Episode 3, Marco to Filip: "You have my name, the name we share." Episode 6, Filip typing: F I L I P N A G A T A There are three remaining books that tell us the story of Laconia, Admiral Duarte, and how the Roci crew deals with them, as well as the Protomolecule and the aliens who killed the Protomolecule builders. The producers of the series had to make a decision: Should they end the series with a rushed ending concocted for television (as did Game of Thrones) or should they end where Book 6 ended? They chose to end as Book Six ended, and I think that was a good decision. Very good to take this trip with you, Imon, and to hear your unique thoughts. I'd like to travel through Andor with you as well. Please look into that magnificent work.
After finishing it all we wish for the expanse is to read the last books or to one day get a renewal for the last seasons material and even more, I mean the worldbuilding they created has so much spin off potential. Thank you for watching
nope She can't be.. The potential for catastrophic damage she triggered by giving that PM to Johnson/The Belt was already manifest by the time we saw what is going on on Laconia. Without that sample they couldnt have turned ANYTHING on on Laconia, and so there would have been no uber Railguns or whatever other nasty surprised they cook up behind their fortress now. That choice ended up giving Inaros the item to exchange for all those advanced ships, which lead to the death of how many? Yeah.. She did many good things, but that once choice alone will ripple for decades, if not centuries to come.
There's a short story called Sins of Our Fathers that happens after the end of book nine. It tells a bit more of Filip's story. Naomi never knows Filip survives. She saved him but she doesn't know. And she's at peace with that. And it fits her perfectly. She maintains ships to protect people she'll never meet. It's why Marco's destruction of the Augusta Gomara with her work was such a violation for her.
Only just finished this series myself. Fantastic stuff, but I'll never forgive them for introducing the hyper-intrigueing "zombie colony boy resurrected by alien doggos" storyline that will never be resolved.
The story about a dead person being reincarnated was introduced way back in s.2.e.5 when Julie opened her eyes and spoke to MIller. The story was renewed when Miller began to appear to and converse with Holden, all the way through to the end of s.4. If the content of a human mind can be downloaded and preserved by the blue goo, uploading those contents into an android body would be an easy task. IMHO, what you decry is a deliberate loose end which could readily be continued with a renewal of the TV show, or in a movie a la Serenity that would wind up all loose ends and save fans the time and effort of reading the last three books.
@@Yesquire0 Each of those three "afterlife-lifes' was different though. The first two apparently involved the downloading/duplication of a consciousness while the people were still alive (at the start of the process at least). Julie's body was rebuilt in a different form. Miller was really just a software simulation of consciousness projected into Holden''s brain. There was no physical body. This last one came from the starting point of a body which had been dead for a couple of days. Necrotic tissue and long-finished electrical activity was the starting point. Xan's resurrection has things in common with the first two but is also really quite different. On a different note, a movie sequel would be a really bad move if you ask me. No way you are getting one book let alone three into a movie. Plus the audience for a continuation movie needs to be a lot larger than the current audience for The Expanse. A movie project would have to be a stand-alone story, with much less depth and detail. It could be set in the same universe, but it would to stand entirely on its own two feet to be successful. Maybe a genius could make a movie that continued the story that worked for both people who knew the story so far and people who didn't, but doing that without a clunky exposition dump or alternatively leaving people with a lot of mystery seems to be a big stretch. Let's just hope that after a few years for the current actors to age up a bit, for Expansive Productions to have success on Amazon with the next JSAC books adaptation, and a gradual increase of fan-base coming in from the books, reaction channels and the "prequel" game, books 7 to 9 will be adapted for TV.
@@MattNolanCustom Miller's consciousness was made manifest in that odd looking machine that the lady doctor threw through that odd eye at the end of s.4. Making Holden see and hear Miller required the blue goo to have a duplicate of Miller's brain, and its contents in storage. It is not much of a leap of logic to assume that a digital personage could also be downloaded into a life-like android. Good point, though, as to the little boy being dead and very much room temperature before the "smart dogs" got their paws on him. It is a bit harder to understand how the boy's conscious mind could have been preserved under those circumstances.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us.

Wow thank you! I appreciated this show so much. It really meant the world to me and was something I very much needed
I cried right around with you. It's so wonderful and refreshing to find someone who really understands this show.
Definitely watch the X-ray extra episodes. They add quite a bit of back story.
Particularly "Ankawala."

THere would need to be some hella creative CGI to actually depict the Laconian ships, since they arent human designed.
22:10 well, it's like the lady said - the only choice anyone ever has is to walk away. Good thing he was listening when she said it!
Yeah, and I love that as we see Filip leave we hear Naomi telling Jim that you never know how something you’ve said might affect someone. You just know Filip is remembering Naomi’s words to him when he stands up and walks out. Beautifully written.

Loved your reactions to The Expanse. Screaming Firehawks Forevah!
Great job on all your Expanse reactions. You have a wonderful intellect and spirit.
Great way to sum it up; couldn't have said it better myself
It's a beautiful human story. We all cried at the end. Glad you experienced it with us.
Sésata, you finished the journey. The Belt embraces your spirit for this story. 😊

It’s been so long since I watched the Last Kingdom. But I had always meant to and will watch the movie. I just need a huge refresher before I do that
Was a helluva ride for me. Have re-watched the entire series a few times. My favorite part of this episode was watching Drummer become the leader. Puts a big smile on my face everytime I watch it.
Don't do it for the adulation, do it because it's right. What a series.
Good finale love the video imon Nation stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way

Sad you made it to the end, but glad you made it to the end :)
As Alex sadly said: "What a ride!"
So it appears that Inaros was a tool for some larger purpose. I hope they eventually put the final books to screen.
now you have to read the books to finish the story! :)

Keon Alexander as INaros is one of the single best villains Ive seen in my 63 years.
After finishing it all we wish for the expanse is to read the last books or to one day get a renewal for the last seasons material and even more, I mean the worldbuilding they created has so much spin off potential. Thank you for watching
I think Naomi is the hero of the series
But drummer is the best character.
So many heroes to choose from!

Certainly felt like this was a story unfinished didn't it?
James wanted to rush off headlong into the rest of the story. Naomi said let's just wait here a while.
