viewing the "glass half full" is a colloquialism describing an optimist, he's describing himself as the opposite: jaded or a cynic. Baptism is the rite of initiation into the Christian faith. People use baptized colloquially to mean "initiated into" or "newly a part of" but with the added implication that it's a choice to dedicate yourself to something for life or that it's somehow sacred. Like you wouldn't get "baptized" into a frat or sorority in college/university. He's saying when you only look at the negatives in life and/or preach negativity, you make yourself miserable, and it's a vicious cycle where the effects and causes perpetuate each other. "taste of your own medicine" is a colloquialism used toward someone getting a come-uppance or karma. It's like "that's what you're giving out so that's what you got in return"
