He got benched because of the tap out, the team wanted to send the message you can’t do that. He’s still the guy though. Most Colts fans still think he’s the guy…. For the moment at least.
AR is 5-5 as a starter and the only flaw is his short/intermediate passing game. He will figure it out and people calling him a bust already will act like they never said he was. Plus 99.9% of people calling AR a bust said Bryce Young was a can't miss prospect, ignore their stupidity
The solution is simple. Keep Richardson, keep Steichen, fire Ballard! This team has a real internal problem that starts with ownership but unfortunately you can’t fire Irsay. Irsay needs to get rid of Ballard and bring in somebody competent that’s not afraid to make moves.
Guys get paid to sit up there and talk but have no idea why Richardson was benched?! COME ONN. His stats will tell you all you need to see. Being tired was just the icing on the cake. Smh.
Ian is 100% right on the money about the history of young QBs being benched. They never go on to succeed with the same team that benched them. Maybe AR will be the outlier🤷♂️.
Feel sorry Richardson he should ofnever been a started. He never played a lot of games in college and this team should of know he needed help to develop. Hopefully he comes back and works on his mechanics and defense reads.
I think benching was imperative. The tapout sealed it. It sends a clear message to all talented young prospects in this league. Tapping out is NOT OK. Ur not a superstar. U have to prove u belong here. There's that mentality that says u can just walk into greatness. It doesn't work that way. U have to work/study/fight for it
Josh Allen had way 3x as many snaps under center and was a way better runner of the football. There were making Cam Newton comparisons when he was drafted, not to mention he was a better passer than Richardson is at the same point into their NFL career's. Josh was just trying bad passes he could get away with in college hence the turnover issues Peyton Manning was the same way. Richardson isn't struggling with game speed he struggling with accuracy and reading basic coverages. And they're right he's only going to get better by playing through the mistakes. But this isn't college you have 52 other guys on that roster trying to get paid and unfortunately bad QB play depreciates every. Except RBs, offensive linemen, defensive linemen and edge rushers. Why should they lose money just so one guy can figure things out?
a lot of the negativity surrounding Josh Allen (and Jordan Love) coming out of college was because they played in the Mountain West.. Meanwhile AR got a pass cause he was in the SEC lol
Although some were making Cam Newton comparisons (so did Lamar) his 16-8 record against mostly Mountain West opponents left much to be desired. AR is 5-5. Josh Allen went 5-6 his first year completed just 52.6 % of his passes and had 10 TD / 12 picks. So if we look back far enough, we can see that yes Josh Allen wasn't that special his rookie season either statistically. We should give it time to see what we have before us.
@raphaelmckinney they were not comparing Lamar Jackson to Cam Newton especially when they're style of play are nothing alike even at the collegiate level. Lamar was compared to Mike Vick for their incredible speed and affinity to avoid big hits. As where Cam and Josh Allen initiate contact and play every bit as big as their 6'5ft frames allow. Anthony doesn't have the arm strength, arm talent or feel for the QB position that Josh Allen showed his rookie season. You people just quote stats idc about that what do your eyes tell you and there's not a scout in the League that would take rookie Ant over rookie Allen. Like I said Josh suffered from decision making Ant sufferers from a inability to read coverage, arm mechanical issues, reading his progressions, running the correct plays and protecting himself better in and outside of the pocket smh. He can't even run a rpo college style offense Greg Roman utilized with Lamar because Ant isn't a great touch passer like Lamar was. Lamar could make any pass 5-10 yards out consistently Ant can't
Why are these guys arguing so hard for Richardson when they were ready to throw other failed QBs away such as Zach Wilson and Mac Jones? As bad as both of those looked as starters, they weren't anywhere near as bad as Richardson. Is it the NFL's fault he didn't play enough before getting drafted? He shouldn't be in the pros. He shouldn't have been drafted. He looked awful in the limited amount of college starts he had and looks worse now. He's not good enough and has too much catching up to do to get there.
In year 2, Josh Allen was already taking his team to the playoffs with 20tds and 9ints, and this was before his superstar leap. One day, we'll stop pretending that Josh and Anthony are the exact same, but probably not anytime soon, unfortunately.
Nobody said they're the exact same. They have similar numbers through their first 10 starts and they are similar talent wise. The argument is: imagine if Buffalo benched Josh after his first 10 games. AR may never reach the level that Josh Allen is at, but we do have a clear example of why you probably shouldn't bench a young project qb after just 10 games.
Fire Ballard, and Steichen needs to call plays to ARs strength. Why is he calling plays like he is a pure pocket passer when that is something he needs to slowly develop into. The offense should built around JT (for now) bc we all knew this was gonna take at least 3 years of development. The colts have failed yet again at the QB situation.
Anthony Richardson is debatably worse than JaMarcus Russell. It is not reasonable to believe that a QB that had a 53% completion % as a starter in college is going to succeed in the NFL.
They got too much invested in him to somply let him go. I wouldnt either. Its not too late he can still become something. But he's got a tall mountain to climb, and the clock is ticking
Teams knew one thing. They knew they could fix the faults that he has. So all the teams that saw his potential called in. To most teams they figured the Colts just gave up on him and figured he was available. Also no one called for Bryce Young if they did we would've heard about that first before the AR stuff. I will say this the Colts have to figure out what they want to do. The teams that called probably all had the same plan which was to fix the problems he had. They probably even knew they could do it. So teams have better QB coaches and wanted to see what the asking price was.
