    So it's been over a year since I've raced and I decided to break that streak by entering in Graham Jarvis' Grimpossible Challenge! It was an extremely tough course to race on, especially after the two days of torrential rain we had just before the race.
    Most of this footage is just me getting stuck and pushing my bike, because that's basically how the whole race went. It's one thing to be able to ride this sort of terrain for fun, but to do it in a race situation with a bunch of other racers on the course is a different story. The hardest part for me is getting around other riders on the hills. I exhausted myself right off the get go by pushing and pushing and pushing on the first hill, and then after that, I was basically hooped. It did end up recovering a little bit and redeeming myself on a few epic hills though! I ended up getting 14th place out of 25 riders and was really glad I entered. It was definitely intimidating but I ended up having a ton of fun.
    Anyways, I added a commentary to the video because I felt that it made it more interesting to watch. I hope you all enjoy it :).

    Awesome!!! Glad you posted that. It was great seeing what it looked like from a rider perspective on the course. We spent several days setting the course up, and could not even ride a lot of what we marked, so I really wanted to see what it looked like - from sitting on a bike, not walking... You did great! 14th out of 25 total riders, and very respectable lap times. Great Job Megan! Great Commentary too!!

    What a cool track. I am pretty sure if you had a bike with lower seat height (suspension tuned to be lower, forks stick through, seat lowered and linkage arm changed so it is lower) you would kick some ass there cuz you could do enduro-turns in steep hills much more easier.
    It is crazy how a "dwarf" like u can hop around in this terrain anyways. x,D
    Keep up doing that cool videos!

    You are sooooo coooool, Meg! Love to hear you laughing even when getting stuck, others would just swear! And riding a qualifier together with Graham J. should make you so proud! Some years ago both Graham and Johnny Walker where taking part in the Battle of Vikings here in Sweden. It was really interesting to see the two of them riding the same circuit as all the amateurs. If I remember right, both Graham and Johnny did 7 laps, while most amateurs where glad to finish a single one. They are simply out of this world... But you are getting there! ;-)

  • @biketothetop
    @biketothetop 5 років тому

    Megs, great narrative and wisdom being shared with others! Nice slo-mo, snot study! One of the most important things in life is to use your brain... I saw you doing that... at times strategy can take you much further in life (up the hill) than brute force! Of course there is a need for both brains and brawn, but the difference is the brain can sustain it's output far longer than we can physically with our brawn. Clearly getting through some obstacles requires lots of brawn and if you don't have that when you need it, you just can't succeed either. That's why racing is so demanding, but great for development of our character and techniques. Just make sure you have fun too, because life passes by so quickly. I've learned that riding full-size motorcycles is often times more difficult just because of the weight of the bike. In part we think of the bike as being so powerful, but at the end of the day they are limited by their tractive force and when we need to interject and push them up the hill or get them through tough obstacles, we fail apart in the energy department. What I've concluded is that we often speak of weight to horsepower ratio of a bike, but we should also consider our personal weight to power ratio with respect to the weight of the bike when it needs to be muscled through obstacles. I have also concluded that the absolute weight of a bike is so important even if you have less power because ultimately if you can pick the bike up and move it around you don't need all the power on the bike to get through things.
    I have a small electric motorcycle that allows me to explore technical places that I've never seen before and it brings with it a lot more confidence then a big bike. Of course the range on my eMoto is not so great as a gas powered bike, but I find myself exploring for the duration of my energy level in a day and it is rewarding to know that I can travel places that I probably would be totally stressed out trying to ride my full-size Moto. I speak of this because yesterday I rode in the rain on technical trails that very few people know exist nor had I ever seen. Today I'm pooped and totally fulfilled!

    • @WADZUP
      @WADZUP 5 років тому +1

      What type of Emoto bike do you have? Great idea. i've been considering doing some off-season training on an E bike locally

    • @biketothetop
      @biketothetop 5 років тому

      @@WADZUP my bike is from Hi-Power Cycles in California. They call it a typhoon. It's a design conversion based off the motoped. It was originally designed to have a pit bike motor, but these guys adapted Hub motor as a mid Drive. At the time I bought it almost three years ago I was not aware of many other choices. At this time I would say it's worth considering getting a Sur Ron eMoto. motorcycle. It's a lot cheaper ($4k) but it has 19 inch motorcycle wheels instead of downhill mountain bike based Wheels like my bike. Check it out my playlist,
      Sur Ron eMoto: ua-cam.com/play/PLZEb8ngMuMU15TMhSYkkcu-GSdVQxGBSg.html
      I put the peg kit on from motoped so I could get rid of the crappy pedals that came with it. The Sur Ron crank/pedals are also crappy from what I learned watching some of these videos. You would never want to Pedal these bikes unless you were on pavement for legality reasons. Perhaps if I put on Moto wheels and much better Fork my bike would be better. In some respects it's like riding a downhill mountain bike, but it's much heavier. I don't ride it as hard as a moto, but maybe somebody else would tend to do so. I like to use it to casually Explore and scope out new Trail opportunities.
      I have a playlist with all my emoto rides. 6kW eMoto rides: ua-cam.com/play/PLZEb8ngMuMU0_y-0SdyoP2JBkXEVMtSTG.html
      Please subscribe to my channel if you like what you see and you'll see more of it. I also ride full size Moto and mountain bike.
