I'm here because I washed my new feather pillow and made many mistakes! I washed it by itself, and again by itself in the dryer, with dryer sheets because it smelled after 40 mins drying on low. Althought it was mostly dry, the corners were damp. Tried to sleep on it and smelled like a farm.
I am no longer in denial lol I'm going to wash it again tomorrow with all the advice here. Thanks!

Have read somewhere else that washing soda or dishwasher tablets are good for removing stains on pillowcase.

    Scared to do this

hardest part is getting all the air out during the wash cycle. Idea: Maybe you could "cat-lick" the outside of the pillow with a face-cloth and warm water with a tiny bit of laundry detergent, and then "cat lick" rinse with just water, or quick spray down the surface with the shower, without soaking it too much

can we drying in the sun?

*Absolutely YES,* Best results come from the sun! The sun's UV helps further destroy germs/bacteria/potential moulds/mildews (and viruses) Check the weather forecast! Do it during dry warm/hot weather, _not during humid weather,_ and preferably with no rain the day before as well as during the day of laundry. Do it when the season gives us long days and sun still shines into the evenings (late June; July, early August). Start the process in the morning, earlier is better, so it can have lots of time for drying, and let its drying time include *(but not limited to)* the maximum strength sunshine part of the day -- between 11 AM and 2 PM on the line in the sunshine! After washing, give it extra spins to pull out maximum water possible by the centrifugal force. Have lots of clothes pegs, because it is heavy, might need 10 or 20 or 30, each pillow, you'll see from experience. Alternatively you can sow some strong cloth tabs or strong ribbon as tabs to clamp those clothes pegs on.
Also, washing feather pillows every 6 months is way way way too often! At most once per year is plenty, or even that is too much. Anyways, make sure its 1000% completely dry before using, regardless how you dry the pillows.
      Hey,
maybe you can help answer my question?
My pillow has lasted very many years, and when I wash it feathers don't stink anymore, so I was thinking mostly I just need to wash the container. Can I very carefully open up a fraction of a selected portion of a seam, empty the feathers/down, and wash the container, then replace the feathers when dry and sow it closed again? It would need some heavy duty sowing though.
