I love Walcott's verse especially in regard to the sea, he is twined with St. John Perse for me as an amazing poet of the sea. His line from Sea Grapes comes to mind: "That sail which leans on light, tired of islands,"
Visiting you is always delightful and no more so than today. My senior thesis at the University of the Virgin Islands was a Jungian analysis of Walcott's wonderful "Schooner Flight". All the best.
I found out today that the Andreuille he has written about is my grandmother, Andreuille Alcee. My mother moved to the UK for university when she was 18 so I hadn't heard about Derek Walcott or his relationship with my grandmother before today
Great video as always Malcolm, Walcott had a very profound affect on me after reading chapter 44 of Omeros in university. Water has always been a sacred creature for me, the 3rd to last stanza really sings to this; I'd never see her again. All of a sudden the rain stopped and I heard the sluicing of water down the guttering. I opened the window when Great to hear some Walcott from you, truly one of the best.
Thank you Malcolm. I wish you a blessed Holy week.
Same to you!

Your video reminded me that I'm not as familiar with Walcott's work as I should be. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
