Amazing how Bromley Council has urged conservation in many shops etc but when we see how very many wonderful old homes and buildings that have been demolished it is sickening, the area at 7:41 had a wonderful old cottage on it that in another video seemed to be an estate agent on the corner of Chislehurst Road, of course now long gone. Thanks for these.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I well remember this area and worked in a few shops in the high street from the 70's to the 80's after which I went to college and got an 'ology. There was a pub in this area called The Artichoke Inn. It was apparently built in the 1800's by a local farmer to serve his farm hands. A well known brewery chain got hold of it and destroyed its character.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed. I have some pictures of the old Artichoke before it disappeared in the next video on the highstreet, this should be the link ua-cam.com/video/tNrlbsY-nDI/v-deo.html
@@eclecticexperience1 I have just watched your video and very interesting it was. I well remember Derek Caddes Music Centre as his daughter and I used to hang out together.
I remember quite a few of the old ships, Lez Sez, the bakery....we used to walk from Poverest to the bakery in the 70's to get crusty bloomer's in the snow and ice for my best friend's aunt and uncle in the ice and snow....treacherous walk, but ole Len loved his crusty bloomers lol. I also remember Fabulous Phones around the corner from John the barbers, on the left as you walked down the one way and opposite, we used to buy stuff from Jack Palmer bike shop. It was still there in 2005-2006, but has gone now. Jack Palmer died and his son took it over. Fabulous Phones....we used to buy our CB radio equipment from back in the 80's. Today, I have still got radios I use, but unfortunately I have to buy online today. Miss those simpler days
Hi I love all your videos of Orpington and was so happy that you have included a video of the one way system at the bottom of the high street behind the retirement flats was my dads workshop do you have any videos of it please
Thank you , glad you enjoy the videos! I will need to have a look to see if I have any pictures round the one way system, I think I might. If I do have any, I will look at creating a video with them in the new year. Thanks
Wonderful info, really appreciate your studies here. I too had my hair cut as a child in John's. The building you showed where Barclays Bank is today, wasn't that lloyds Bank for years?

My dad remembered going into the anchor and hope when it still had dirt floors!
