  • I had an opportunity for some fishing before sunset so I made a quick rip to Rice Lake. This awesome little lake is stocked multiple times a year with catchable size Rainbow Trout by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. The fishing is great in the spring and fall, and you can generally catch trout here year round on many presentations like small flies, spoons and spinners, bait like salmon eggs or worms, Powerbait, or artificials like the Trout Magnet.
In this video I targeted them by fishing Trout Magnets under a small float. You'll notice that early on in the video I take a knife to my float - I was getting bites immediately, but the fish were getting spooked by the resistance the float was providing. I cut a thin slice off the bottom of the float to make it have more of a tapered bottom, and after a quick adjustment to my weights, I was into a fish right away.
I caught 3 in total and had multiple missed opportunities. Always makes for a relaxing evening, and I hope you enjoy the video!

Thanks for sharing Jev. I have yet to catch my first stocked trout out of that lake. I can relate with your early frustration when it feels one just gets there and things start off on the wrong foot, there is that feeling and hope that it isn't a bad sign of things to come. I know that sigh so well when you hooked yourself; and then you almost fell trying to show off your first catch. So glad to see you were successful here. The ultralight with the trout is fun!

Hey Joe! Thanks for checking out my new video. I'm glad you could relate, I was hoping to just show the real experience of a quick evening trout trip.

That’s funny, my experience is the opposite! I’ve had most success float fishing and casting lures and haven’t had much luck with bottom setups there

How did the fish taste? I had a couple bad ones out of this lake.
Btw I prefer your voice over videos! You indeed have a good narration style :).

It was good! With the stocked trout I usually either smoke them or make soup with them once I have enough of em.
      Thanks for the feedback bro!

Hey, I've got a new video coming tomorrow that shows how I rig my float fishing setups. Let me know if you have any more questions after you check it out :)
