I hope atleast some current meat producers would like to consider adopting this means of growing meat. There could be profit and there will be a market.
2,304 of us visionaries should be investing. I can't believe this doesn't have over a million views. I can't think of a technology that could change the world more than this.
Amendment: This technology is amazing, but should develop as a result of market demand for cruelty free animal products, not because governments handicap animal husbandry, so they can feed us synthetic food, because that would be using immoral means in the name of a moral cause, therefore poisoning the moral achievement.
When is cultured meat going to be released? Also, I’ve realised just now that I might want to work on the in vitro meat reasearch in the future, I’ve a,ways wanted to work as a medical researcher of some sort, but I still don’t know what to work on, perhaps, this might be it, I don’t know I’m still 15! Also, is it possible to make this with eggs?
I haven't heard of any companies trying eggs yet, however, fish and chicken have been done! If you're interested in this stuff I recommend checking out JUST Foods as they're probably going to be one of the first American companies to get their cell-cultured beef to market! They also have a line of eggless scrambled eggs that you can already buy in supermarkets, however, the product is based on plant proteins and is not cell-cultured.
Mark Post's invention Lab Grown Meat deserves approvals from governments of more than 100 countries in order to promote the theme of maximum yield with least amount of resources among the animal farming industries on both land and sea.
Nice to get an update on this technology. Current animal products (meat fish dairy eggs) production and consumption only mean suffering and premature death for all the animals involved and now that could be avoided. The current environmental impact is huge (greater even than transportation) so that can be reduced. The only problem remains for the consumer who may not see meat consumption related cancer, heart disease, obesity and diabetes risk decrease. Could a hybrid be created that produces safe plant protein? Until then we could always eat spinach or broccoli to avoid chronic disease. 2 out of 3 is still a huge advance. 801010rv
According to a prominent Australian animal scientist spoken to by Beef Central, multiplying animal cells to create a form of meat protein in a lab requires the use of a medium based on foetal blood plasma. Foetal blood is produced by slaughtering a pregnant cow, removing its unborn calf from its uterus, and harvesting the blood from it. While a synthetic alternative to foetal blood does exist, it is apparently prohibitively expensive to produce, the meat scientist said. So much for ‘mortality free’ lab-grown meat production. (And hopefully they don't use aborted baby's cells either!)
I'd like to know what happens to the 600-700million people associated with meat production directly and indirectly. It could be disastrous. But, I think this solution has many other questions that will have to be asked. Having said that, I am a vegetarian that would be happy to place a cultured beef stake on the bbq. But I think we have a huge amount to think about before this is commercialised.
Late reply I know, but I believe the focus of the industry is to find a proprietary media that would certainly not be from FBS (Fetal bovine serum for those unsure), as yes this would be rather against the point. It is a major sticking point currently though due to the costs involved in creating such a medium.
I look forwards to this method even though I don't care about animal suffering and I love meat so I will never turn vegetarian but I am really concerned of the environmental implications this industry has on our planet. I really want this technology to develop and even I want to be part of this new food industry.
Fancyfilmss Let's eat more meat to kill all humans because the Earth was and will be living after humans . How you don't care about animals suffering.????????
I love this soooooo much! It's implications are huge! The culinary explosion of artistry will be amazing. Imagine, we could save heritage breeds from extinction and even eat endangered species! The factory farm will be replaced by intact ecosystems because diversity will be the pressure. 💚🌎💚
Just to clarify "15g of meat you have to feed it 100g of vegetable proteins", this is not to be said that those "vegetable proteins" are what we consider digestible nutrients. Livestock is often grazed on lands and pastures suitable for growing non-digestible plants, such as grasses and legumes that Humans can not digest.
If meat eating make us smart why do eskimos live in iglus then. After farming we start to get "smarter" and india is good place showing u dont to eat meat
Vegetarian here, and I think eating lab-grown meat is even more distasteful than dead animals. I wouldn't even look for a long stick that I wouldn't touch this weirdness with.
Cruithne But for the majority of people who eat meat and will never even think of going vegetarian, flexitarian or vegan... this still would be much of a better option, don't you agree? And those who are vegan and still want to be vegan, good for them.
nice one Cruithne, as far as the 'Many people are afraid of what they do not understand' crowd - they're so polarised on the mainstream marketing drug that they can't see past the drip to the dribble.

I would be all down for this. Both for envioroment and for stopping/reducing the animal cruelty.

Problem is that most of this isn't economical yet and the companies that are doing this are start ups which can be hard to invest in.

I look forward to cultured beef. Cultured fur, another neat idea.
I’m curious if they’re growing the skeletal cells in media including FBS? That might be a bit counterintuitive, don’t you think?

@@SharpShooterX25 I've been out of the industry for several years. The biopharm tech is growing so quickly I can't keep up!
It’s happening it’s time we are changing, 2021 the year of veganism

Fancyfilmss They are part of this planet and if they die all we are gonna do it too.
Fancyfilmss I love meat too but I feel bad for the animals and the environment
this is actually so heart-warming.
Maybe one of the most important speeches on UA-cam. Hence the view count.

7:36 Dude is fully asleep.
He's one of the vegetarians in the audience. Couldn't keep himself awake through the afternoon. lol
must be meditating :p

This could push us into space and beyond 🌌

it still takes land to grow
so years from now we will have cultured mince meat. what about t-bone or fillet mignon?
eva maria maybe on artificial bone
I think 🤔 is great ideas 💡
🙏 you
Mike Fani you will be eating cancerous cells

Great 👍🏻 fantastic fabulous I love 💕 I am vegan 🌱.i love ❤️ this 💡 save animal 🦓 earth environment less water 💧 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When will it become commercialized? Then I finally can stop being a vegetarian! :)
lost me at combining steak and lobster
If meat eating make us smart why do eskimos live in iglus then. After farming we start to get "smarter" and india is good place showing u dont to eat meat
So "Cultured beef" would that be a type 1 carcinogen of a type 2 carcinogen?
Can’t wait to eat Cancerous ham burger 😂

Your not alone. Many people are afraid of what they do not understand.
better than being vegetarian
get over it, it stops animals from dying and saves the planet.
