Thanks for watching, everyone! I wanted this video to be a beginner's guide to Super Famicom collecting, getting you situated with a console and some good games to get a collection going. Let me know what you think and if you'd like to see more videos like this.
Thank you for this one. The Super Famicom is my favorite all-time console, and it's games are my favorite all-time collection. Excellent game choices as always, you have caused me to put the kunio-kun selection on my latest game shortlist. Great video, dude.
Perfecting timing, I am trying to build up my Super Famicom collection as I wait for the Super NT. Thank you for the great video! Please keep the import buying guides coming man! Maybe a Saturn one next? Also the names of the games in the description is a huge help.
Great games you've displayed. The one based off of River City Ransom is my favorite import. I haven't played Shin Nekketsu for years but damn it's so much fun. I'm not even gonna be salty about how pricey it is because it's understandable based on the high fun factor of that game.
Yeah, when a game is that good you can expect it to go up in price at some point. That's what I'm afraid is going to keep happening to games like Violinist of Hameln and Papuwa-kun, they'll end up just like Magical Pop'n.
I put 3 of the games you mentioned on my want list. This was a great video man. I especially liked that you chose inexpensive games. I love buying games that are cheap and fun rather than games that are $100 and suck.
Oh man, I like those kind videos. I am making a list for sfc games to buy for my next trip and to be honest I was running out ideas . Will definitely add them to my list . Thanks man for this great .
I cannot wait for my Super Famicom to get here. A gift to myself for my upcoming 36th bday because SNES is just too expensive. I ordered all the games I felt confident I would have no English barrier with, which sadly, because I know like nothing about anything are only Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Yoshi's island, Mario Paint, Street Fighter 2 Turbo and a couple more I am drawing blanks on. Really want the Final Fantasies but I am reluctant because I can't read Kanji LOL
Haven't been paying too much attention to the SFC stuff lately Jim. Been too busy enjoying your advics on the Saturn imports video you made. 8^) Well done as always bro. 8^) Anthony..
JP saturn games in my opinion are way more worth the time then super fami. I mean shit.... now they’re making patches for for shining force 3 scenarios 2 and 3
Glad I found this video! There aren’t much videos on YT for import buying guides like you said. I’ve been wanting to start collecting for this and the original Famicom. Will you be doing a buying guide for the original Famicom as well? 🙏🏼
I will at some point, along with a bunch of other consoles. In the mean time, there are a bunch of videos on my channel either recommending or reviewing Fami and SuFami games.
I highly recommend removing the import-pins if you own a US-SNES. But if you go for a Japan SFC, the SFC Jr may give you a better video signal than the regular SFC/SNES. I was unhappy that my console showed vague vertical line in all games, and later revisions (the so called one chip models and the Jr) got rid of that problem. This also goes for US consoles.Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kuniotachi no Banka looks even more fun than I thought! I like the graphical style, varied gameplay is a plus too!I've dismissed Mickey no Tokyo Disney Land Daibouken as being a throw away plattformer, but it actually seems to play good... and I think I do need Nangoku Shonen Papuwa-kun.
I chose to use the Game Genie instead of performing a tonsillectomy. I believe there are different revision of the model 1 SNES. Not all are made the same.
Violinist of Hamelin used to be quite expensive but apparently has gone down in price now if your prices are right. Still it might have gone up again within the year. Great vid Jim.
Why didn't you mention using the Game Genie as an import pass-thru device? None of the import guides / beginner SFC vids I've seen ever mention that. The main benefit being that you don't have to amputate bits of your SNES.
I don't believe the manufacturer originally intended people to use it as an import device, but it does provide an alternative for those who don't want to modify their system.
I did hear that the only region lock on the SNES were those little tabs so, good to know! and no hate from me here, sailormoon was always a personal favorite series of mine! (and yknow she used to be on toonami years ago so... :P)
I started collecting for this console two years ago. I got a super fami complete in box and I had to go out and find street fighter zero 2 and Mario kart for it. I started getting more games for it but then people started making homebrews of translated JP exclusives , I was collecting for the Saturn both regions as well at the time.. and then I hit a holy grail of a japenese dreamcast lot that included my first japenese dreamcast and a ton of fighters and classics including ikaruga, marvel vs capcom, sonic adventure. So when that happend. I sold my boxed super fami and 2 games with it for a North American copy of mario party 3 and $30. Cuz I’ll be honest. At that point I figured out collecting for the japenese dreamcast and japenese saturn was way more practical then getting a japenese cartridge system, iso back ups being the main reason. I will say this though. The super fami that I had was yellow and I did the reverse light process with peroxide and stripping the console down and then reassembling it before I sold it off. So the super fami was a learning experience. If they weren’t making English translated homebrews maybe I would of kept it. Nah. My American library for my real snes with repro’s combined is about 150 carts sooo... yeah lol
I'd personally recommend people to buy a Super NT instead at this point in time. It has amazing video quality for HDTVs and bypasses much of the issues regular stock SNES/Super Famicom consoles have like region locking, cartridge power frying (many homebrew games on carts), and 50/60hz conversion slowdown/speed up. It is much cheaper too to be able to get good video out of a Super NT ($200 stock price) than it is to with an SNES especially on HDTVs ($100-$800).
I picked up my Super Famicom w/ an SF branded controller, hookups, and Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4 (and Mario & Wario, but I don't have an SNES Mouse) for $100 at a local game store a few days ago, so hopefully I can use this for a guide! Thanks : )
I like to recommend the Parodius series (of which there were 3 on SFC) to importers because they're so zany. A bit more on the difficult side, but hella fun.
I forgot I broke those plastic pieces off my super Nintendo I was thinking about getting a super Famicom LOL no need now. But seriously I like how the super Famicom looks. I should buy one of those and then break the pieces off LOL.
Got all 3 Go Go Ackman games at one time, all loose carts, 2 and 3 ran me $23 total, the first one ran me $19 alone. So under $50 for all 3 games. Papuwa is a good anime, but I don't have the game for it yet. I have a loose Violinist of Hamelin, but it was not cheap when I bought a copy, around $45.
I wanted a Super Famicom for years and looked quite frequently after it. But here in Europe, for some reason, 90 procent of the time you'll get one without anything except the system itself. It's hilarious how an AC Adapter is getting kind of an holy grail. The biggest problem with that it.. you don't know if it works or it was damaged during the process like no step down converter, a PAL AC Adapter or wrong third party AC adapter...
Yeah, that's ridiculous. There are hundreds of Super Famicom consoles all over e-bay, don't why people think they can get away with charging so much. Like I said, you can get a console in good condition with AC, AV, and one or two controllers for usually no more than $50.
I do not own a North American SNES, instead I have a Super Famicom, I do own an adapter so I can play North American cartridges, my only SNES cartridges are A Link to the Past and Plok...the rest are Super Famicom cartridges.
The biggest problem I've had with collecting Super Famicom games is how yellow all the cartridges are. Do people in Japan leave their games in a sunny window, or what?
In general, which area would you say is cheaper: West Tokyo Hard Offs, or Den Den town in Osaka? I'm going to both, but don't want to jump the gun on one if another is cheaper.
the donkey kong ones kinda need to be in english so can know what clues to look for i noticed, other than that even the super mario world can work ok as import long as save its progress ok, which i think?? i usually did..or maybe'd that explain why it was soo hard to get past that one part..hmm haha..oh well
oh and as long as expect it to take around full month to get to you, which i never minded that much because long as i knew about it..since i'd order other games and such so by time i played those earlier in month the latter one would round out end of monthgood..but sometimes like one time when i didn't know i ordered from far away i worried about isn't my order coming and that..so was good thing to know so won't worry
Hi Jim I have a special request and wondering if you would be interested on participating on doing so. The Official NEO-GEO Thread on Atariage.com will be celebrating its 4th anniversary on March 24, 2018. I'm asking my Neo-Geo and SNK contributors like yourself if you would like to get involved by doing a birthday special in regards to the Neo-Geo thread to celebrate the moment with anything for the unit and/or from SNK in general. I understand you have a busy schedule with personal life and uploads on your channel. That's why I'm posting this request in weeks advance. Would you like to partake on doing an anniversary special for the thread bro? Anthony...
So now it easy without adapter Godzilla destroyed all monster ,dbz fighting or fire pro wrestling or all Japan pro wrestling or space invaders or magical quest 3 or others fighting games or platform games ranma or pretty gogo ack man or ultra man 7 or

Besides Mario that will probably haunt my dreams.
This was a great video
Have you ever experience loose cartridge in japan not able to play/hidden faulty?
Thank you for this one. The Super Famicom is my favorite all-time console, and it's games are my favorite all-time collection. Excellent game choices as always, you have caused me to put the kunio-kun selection on my latest game shortlist. Great video, dude.
Thanks! Hope you can find it for a decent price.
The north American SNES AC adaptor will not fit in a super Famicom. The model one Sega genesis ac cord works well.
Damn, I was not aware of that. Thanks for the info.
Perfecting timing, I am trying to build up my Super Famicom collection as I wait for the Super NT. Thank you for the great video! Please keep the import buying guides coming man! Maybe a Saturn one next? Also the names of the games in the description is a huge help.
I'm strongly considering doing the Saturn next.
Best fucking Japan retro series ever fucking made. Keep up the good shizzle bro!
Thanks, bromosexual. You're too kind.
Great games you've displayed. The one based off of River City Ransom is my favorite import. I haven't played Shin Nekketsu for years but damn it's so much fun. I'm not even gonna be salty about how pricey it is because it's understandable based on the high fun factor of that game.

My pleasure. :) Good luck finding the games on your list.
There's definitely a few of these I don't have, at least CIB. Must catalog. I need to learn not to avoid manga games. Feel free to do a part 2!
There won't be a part two to this, but I will keep doing the "Imports Worth Playing" series though.
Good video m8, love Super Famicom, we missed out so much in the Pal region, back then. Good times now though.
I cannot wait for my Super Famicom to get here. A gift to myself for my upcoming 36th bday because SNES is just too expensive. Thanks. More wonderful foreign content for my SNES Classic.
Japan is amazing! I bought that Dragonball Z 2 game complete, good condition in the junk section for 1 dollar :D
Love the mario commercial singing konichiwa
It's pretty bad ass, I must say.
Great video thanks for sharing, I've always wanted to get into the super famicom just didn't know what was English friendly thanks again kid

Jim, in the French and Spanish versions of DBZ: Super Butoden 2, Goku and Broly are are already unlocked right from the start, just to clarify.
Awesome video! Please do more gamplay videos like the x men one. Loved that!
I have plenty more of those planned, just need to find the time to make them.
Violinist of Hamelin used to be quite expensive but apparently has gone down in price now if your prices are right. Still it might have gone up again within the year.
Great vid Jim.
Now your playing with power, *_SUPER POWER!_*
I always love your choices.
Thanks! Plenty more on the way.
Been adding these to my Super Retro-cade sd :D
Sweet video! Nice picks I always wanted to get the back to the future game on SFamicom
Great game, just a tad expensive these days unfortunately.
Yeah that's the sadder part but at least this one is good, the other ones we got on Mega Drive or NES aren't that great in my opinion :'D
Why didn't you mention using the Game Genie as an import pass-thru device? None of the import guides / beginner SFC vids I've seen ever mention that. The main benefit being that you don't have to amputate bits of your SNES.
My bad, I've never used a Game Genie before and didn't know it had that feature.

Super famicom had the best baseball games.I Iove them all and still tryin to get s good deal on space megaforce :)
Great showcase of Super Famicom games!
I'd personally recommend people to buy a Super NT instead at this point in time. Thanks for the videos. These are just excellent.
Super NT is the way to go for SFC/SNES collecting. I’m done dealing with outdated outputs, mods and scalers for systems with an FPGA alternative.
Great video jim. Gusson looks be be right up my alley.
Hey, fellow Tetris Attack fan. I recommend playing Tetris Plus on PS1. It's just like Gusson and even cheaper.
Tetris plus is a killer game.
Go for it, it's fun as hell and pretty damn challenging to boot.
I like to recommend the Parodius series (of which there were 3 on SFC) to importers because they're so zany. A bit more on the difficult side, but hella fun.
Dude, your pc engine collection is about to fall!
SufamiDan My wife said the same thing, that is too funny.
Yeah, I need to invest in some new shelves sometime soon.
Yes I have Mickey Disney Tokyo it great and I have super Famicom $45 with two controllers but needed ac adapter $13 separate
subscribed. Thank you for advice, music, video production
I forgot I broke those plastic pieces off my super Nintendo I was thinking about getting a super Famicom LOL no need now. But seriously I like how the super Famicom looks. I should buy one of those and then break the pieces off LOL.
I like how this guy add Japanese adverts to his videos lol
Great list, would like to see more
Japanese game have a lot of pastel going on. That’s not all. They are very colorful in general.
Yeah, I find that a lot of the games that stayed in Japan usually are based on some sort of anime and are super colorful.
I would like to see a video from you about great anime and manga for beginners
That might be kind of tough, I've been out of the anime and manga game for a long time now.
Even the shelves are excited
you can play these super fam on retron also if has snes slot or by clipping out the plastic tab on snes in cart slot area..
Have you tried the Megadrive version of YuYu Hakusho by Treasure ? The best 16-bits version imho
Nope, I've wanted to play it for a while now but it's gotten pretty expensive.
Really wanting to play go go ackman always been a little hesitant about ordering from Japan

i recently bought a modded super famicom that can play both ntsc+pal games, for 50€
our pure pal consoles suck big time!
Hey everybody you can also get a retron 5 and I think it translates some of the games as well
Holy smokes that’s a lot of games! How are you going take them back when you decide to go home
I've still never been to Den Den Town but I can say that West Tokyo has been very good to me over the years.
Great video 👏

Great video
What about using this in Australia? The voltage is higher than in USA or Japan, so is anything else required?
Jus curious what are the games in your library?
Goofy question: Can you play SNES carts on the SFC, or do you need to buy an adaptor?
You would need an adapter I guess, the SNES cartridge shape won't fit the SuFami. Maybe if you physically altered the cartridge port?
Xbox 360 import buyers guide
Can do.
So now it easy without adapter Godzilla destroyed all monster ,dbz fighting or fire pro wrestling or all Japan pro wrestling or space invaders or magical quest 3 or others fighting games or platform games ranma or pretty gogo ack man or ultra man 7 or
Anyone know sites that sell cib sfc games with real photos and not stock images. Also prices lower than ebay
I'd recommend the Facebook import game selling groups. Always pictures, almost always prices that put e-bay to shame.
Will all these games play on a retron5 system, like the retron box says they will
No idea, never played on a Retron before.
Thanks a lot!
What is the name for Super goo Soon cant find it XD
where did you buy that shirt?
Paid 75 for mine cib
PLS More!!!
2:11 *BURP*
i burned the pegs off heehee its plays all games
Why do you buy useless junk? Just for display?
Excelente video. Recomiendo este video sobre un mando inalambrico de la superfamicon
