That looks like a signal repeater that would say ‘off’ when the signal isn’t at red as the guard from the position that they would open / close the doors wouldn’t be able to see the signal due to the platform being on a curve.

Correction, the Intercity 125 was the name given to it by InterCity. The real chosen name is the Class 43 HST.
