Met Billy Jack Haynes at a mall in Jacksonville when he wrestled in Florida in 1984. He was let's say cordial...he signed an autograph for my younger brother. However the guy seemed a little paranoid...not at us but of people who were walking past us. I didn't think much about then but later how his career went off track I could see there were issues brewing.
We partied pretty hard back then - Alot of pot and coke.
BJH was always a troubled individual, caused by his mental illness and drug abuse. He got worse as he aged so this murder is not surprising.
Some say it was a mercy killing. I don't know either way but I can tell you I have had to take care of a family member who had dementia. You can't judge unless you have dealt with it. It can be so crazy at times that you literally ask yourself if it's you losing your mind or them. In my case there were many crazy things that happened including 4 or 5 times he would cook on the stove and then lay the oven mitt on a stove eye that was turned on and I would smell it burning and go into the kitchen and have to put out the fire. The first couple of times he was in complete denial and said he didn't do it. There were only two of us there. I literally started asking myself if it was me doing it and I was the one losing it because I knew he wouldn't lie about anything. He was always straight up and honest his whole life. I had never dealt with anything like it. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. I have heard of people putting their shoes in the oven and cooking them like a thanksgiving turkey thinking they were cooking up dinner. Again, if you haven't dealt with it, you can't judge. Once it gets that bad, they usually don't live more than a few years at most.
This is sad, i grew up watching this great athlete. 1 of my favorite wrestlers from my childhood 💔.

Exactly Mike, He deserves far more respect & honor than he's ever gotten. this realm is cruel AF....its too easy for these armchair asshats to judge w/o going thru real challenges. Billy will always be called crazy, until he dies, then these cowards will see he was spot on & honest the entire time. Bread & circuses my friend.

Assisted suicide basically? Yeah I could see that being true, but he has no evidence that she asked him to do that. Plus it would still be murder.
I never ever thought he was that kind of person. He could've put her in the nursing home. He didn't have to kill her. Now he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison. There's no such thing known as the perfect murder nobody gets away with that.
He was broke, couldn't afford to put her anywhere where she would get quality care. He ranted about being on food stamps in shoot interviews.
Have you looked into what is involved into finding a decent nursing home. And I use decent loosely. Money doesn't guarantee quality care and no money guarantees you horrible facilities and staff. That poor man was overwhelmed. Caregiving is hard, where was his family?

Don’t know his finances but he could have simply admitted her to a dementia facility. Most r private pay tho some aren’t.
She woulda been cared for there & would have had caretakers watching her 24/7. Hygiene, dietary, religious, social, medical & varied therapies would have been to her disposal.
Billy coulda visited her 7 days a week too.

parents to facilities (tho not a alz/dementia unit) like that and it killed me but was in their best interest. Rip Mrs Haynes🙏💎
Janette's family tried/were desperate to help her when her dementia got bad, but Haynes would not even let them visit her. He isolated her and denied her family access. They tried to get Adult Protective Services involved but they didn't act. To her family, Janette was murdered by her abuser. That sort of blows up his mercy killing defense. Especially since he's a known liar, even though some of his most preposterous stories might be true ( such as his pro wrestling stories). He was always feared by other pro wrestlers because he was a loner and unstable.

I worked out in the same gyms with him. He was always friendly - and supportive. I am sorry for her familys loss and her passing. We need more support for people with mental health issues - Normal life is hard enough. I would imagine things got out of control.
