i dont have the guitar but am thinking of getting one, i have researched it and i think its down to the way the neck is attached to the body (glued instead of the traditional bolt on)
new, the guitar is in the range of $300 to $800. if you want the deluxe (sunburst) its closer to $800. if a regular one, closer to $350. it sounds amazing and feels very good. against the les paul, it has more spreaded strings so its a little easier to play the right note. haha
if i want to buy the exact guitar you have in the video, do i head for the g-400 or the vintage g-400 ? the color of yours its only available on the vintage one
this is not a starter's guitar! this is a guitar every guitar is! any guitar will be good for starters! matter of fact the more expenisve, mostly, are easy to use!
be aware people how much effects pedals enter into the sound. Ive got this guitar and he's got tones i haven't managed to get out of it yet. so if you want that sound you will also need pedals.
I have a G400 and for the price i paid, can't complain about it. But when i play standing up, the neck seems heavy, it tends to slide down. Is there something to do for it to keep steady? When Angus plays his SG, he lets go of it and it doesn't slide.
Well the 1966 has a bigger 60s style pickgaurd and also has two coil split switches to change the bridge and neck pickups from humbuckers fo single coils, this guitar does not have the coil split capability and has a smaller pickguard. And also it has a satin finsih whereas the 66 is a gloss finish
Judson Ruddick The G-400 Pros (regular and 1966) all have coil splitting. The Pros also have Alnico Classic Pro pickups which are noticeably fuller and brighter sounding than the older Alnico Classic pickups. If you're planning on swapping out the pickups anyway, get the non-Pro versions. If you want the keep the pickups then try both and choose based on which you like.
@PsychoB Well, It's not high gain distortion no. It is probably a Tubescreamer or Boss SD-1 overdrive into the clean channel with the gain knob all the way up. But technically yes it counts as dirty.
@soulagent79 yeah are they any good thinking of getting one, already have a few fenders and a gretsch but i am just looking for something affordable and different to play.
You are lucky i dont have one i live in a small city and there isnt shop for guitars and am 12 am old to go to music school now.I want electric guitar badly
@Lucap1000 I hate that I was too young to know anything about guitars when I got my first guitar. And nice! A fender mustang, I went to guitar centre and played out of the mustang III and my dad asked when I got so good and I said the amp is doing most the work! Haha and a new guitar will do that to you. Haha
@steelewolf365 the actual gibson sg standard definitely sound hotter than the g400 with stock pups. It depends whether you are willing to spend that much money for such a difference and the bindings which the epi sg don't have. Another way is to upgrade the g400 pickups for a hotter tone.
I just got the Epi SG Silverburst limited edition blah blah blah....The thing rocks! Will probably put in some hotter Gibson burstbuckers in but overall very pleased.
I have a 66' reissue so it's little different but to be honest, I'm not really taken with it. Actually kind of feels like playing an acoustic. I would prefer a thinner neck and more tone. I'll definitely be checking out the SGJ for next time since you've recommended it ... probably won't be long till I need a new one at this rate anyway.
ive been playing guitar for 5 years... and 4 years electric guitar... i've never had a good guitar and i'm thinking of buying either this one, or epiphone les paul 100... or an ibanez GX (although i'm not sure about that one) ... which one do you think is better for me?? if anyone has an opinion on that pleasee tell me :) BTW i'm 16...
G-400 by far. If you want a Squier stick to their Classic Vibes. Those are grate guitars, but the Affinity / Standard aren't. If you want a Strat in this price range, check out the Yamaha Pacifica. PS: I'm a bigger Fender fan than I am a Gibson fan, but I have to admit epiphone beats Squier at this price point.
Iron883Man Yamaha Pacifica truly suck. They are thin terrible sounding instrument despite the fact they play well. If you want a cheap strat, find a used peavey T-series. they are awesome. I agree this SG-400 kills a Squire. That said i have played a couple Squiers that were amazing. A couple, out of hundreds that i've lifted. usually they suck bad.
I have a lefty Epiphone SG and with my Telecaster I think they're the best guitars ever made, seriously, just change pickups on the SG, like a P.A.F. (I installed one on mine) or Seymour Duncans and then you'll have a kick ass guitar!!. Of course there's a difference with Gibson's but a "starter guitar"?? I don't think so. And remember, THE TONE IS IN YOUR FINGERS, not just on the wood, if you're a lame player, even if you have Hendrix's SG it would sound like crap! Cheers!!
im sorry but if you play the same strat however one has a maple neck and the other has a rosewood neck then you will see a huge difference, also btw the strings vibrate and resonate through the wood and depending on the density and quality on the wood then the guitar will be brighter, darker or whatever and all this is picked up from the pickups :)
I really dont know why everybody is crazy about Gibsons. My first guitar was a Gibson and i hated it with all my heart. The sound quality of it was just complete trash my second and current guitar is a Sg and i love it. Epiphone all the way :)
i like playing alternative rock/metal but i would surely like to play some smooth acoustic songs... i don't know... i'm still like 70% SG and 30% les paul 100.. it's just that the les paul is a lot cheaper here... :/ (SG 260$) - (Epiphone les paul 100 210$)
Ryo Watanabe The neck is one of the thinnest Epi makes, calleda 60's slim taper. The nut width is 1 and 11/16" which is typical, not particularly wide or narrow. It's a good guitar for someone with smaller hands.
My hands are small... like 7 inches from the wrist to the top of the middle fingers. Would be the fretboard too uncomfortable or width for me? I would like a fender type of neck but I have always wanted this SG or Les Paul guitars but I've read that they have very fat necks.

What's that riff at the start
Bought pearl plastic tuning knobs, some Stainless Steel tone knobs for all 4 switches off Etsy, and the guitar is balanced now. No neck more neck dive
My favorite guitar I ever had! & then lost while on drugs! Now I’m off drugs and getting one for my birthday next week!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This may be the first bridge humbucker I've liked clean
Very true. Almost every bridge humbucker I've heard make the guitar sound bad or out of tune. I was very impressed when I demod this guitar.
im buying this guitar
cool martin shirt im a big fan of martins
i dont have the guitar but am thinking of getting one, i have researched it and i think its down to the way the neck is attached to the body (glued instead of the traditional bolt on)
Outstanding review!
@HappyFace788 its a tremelo bar and now..you have to install it on if you want
Do you mind telling me, How long do the frets last and what are they made of?
this is a personal gripe of mine, not sure if others have this problem, but it seems that the neck is heavier on my G400 (1966 pro version)
Would this sound good plugged into a Fender Frontman 212R?
new, the guitar is in the range of $300 to $800. if you want the deluxe (sunburst) its closer to $800. if a regular one, closer to $350. it sounds amazing and feels very good. against the les paul, it has more spreaded strings so its a little easier to play the right note. haha
If it's good enough for Jus Oborn it's good enough for anyone I say!
Im thinking of getting either a gibson sg special or this guitar. Any suggestions?
im sure it is. but if you stood up with it strapped on does the headstock bob down? is it top heavy?
if i want to buy the exact guitar you have in the video, do i head for the g-400 or the vintage g-400 ? the color of yours its only available on the vintage one
this is not a starter's guitar! this is a guitar every guitar is! any guitar will be good for starters! matter of fact the more expenisve, mostly, are easy to use!
lespaul special ii or SG or explorer. which one is better?
Do you think i would need to replace the strap lock for this guitar?
Are there any cons or bad traits to any Epiphone SGs or guitars in general?
i worked my ass off to bye a gibson les paul 60 tribute it's not that expensive but when you'r young it is :p it was my starter too
Takk for den. Dmitri elsker deg
Getting one next week!
i got the 1966 g400 pro its a bit different and i think better
be aware people how much effects pedals enter into the sound. Ive got this guitar and he's got tones i haven't managed to get out of it yet. so if you want that sound you will also need pedals.
Think it could pull off some Stoner Doom metal like Electric Wizard or Sleep ? I've already got the pedals I need and a decent amp.
nice guitar
I have a G400 and for the price i paid, can't complain about it. But when i play standing up, the neck seems heavy, it tends to slide down. Is there something to do for it to keep steady? When Angus plays his SG, he lets go of it and it doesn't slide.
just got an SG Pro and I love it ( Epiphone )...been playing for years and have a bunch of Epi's and love them all and my SG is no exception ,,,,
the goth series is a little bit cheaper at 250 for factory restock at guitar center AND LOOKS WAY BETTER WITH THE FLAT SATIN BLACK
Would this be a good studio guitar?
what makes it different than the Epi SG limited 1966? Also what are these two screws between the neck PU, and the fretboard?
Well the 1966 has a bigger 60s style pickgaurd and also has two coil split switches to change the bridge and neck pickups from humbuckers fo single coils, this guitar does not have the coil split capability and has a smaller pickguard. And also it has a satin finsih whereas the 66 is a gloss finish

Dude this g400 is not a pro, lol get your facts straight, it has no coil split dude, and there is not satin version of the pro
And i find no difference in the pickup sound
Sorry for your lack of hearing dude.
I really want by it
but i donot have much many
is this SG neck heavY and tends to tilt to the ground?
@PsychoB Well, It's not high gain distortion no. It is probably a Tubescreamer or Boss SD-1 overdrive into the clean channel with the gain knob all the way up. But technically yes it counts as dirty.
what is the name of the song at 3:50 ? can some help me out?
my epiphone sg g 400 cherry red with standerd silver humbucking pick ups was $625
i had this guitar for a year now and i think already that it sounds better or the same as some Gibson sg
Did you even see the video. Al he said was that it is a good starters guitar. So yes it's good for beginners!
@KyoKaiba depends what model youre lookin for. sorry if my language offends you.
@soulagent79 yeah are they any good thinking of getting one, already have a few fenders and a gretsch but i am just looking for something affordable and different to play.
@saodmv big difference?
Does it stay in tune really well?
@thanos607 well in netherlands there about €260,- if u can find a vintage vs6 same price u should get that it has better pick ups from wilkinson
You are lucky i dont have one i live in a small city and there isnt shop for guitars and am 12 am old to go to music school now.I want electric guitar badly
Anybody know what color that is ?
Thanks.
EPIPHONE FADED G-400 WORN BROWN
Sweet, Thanks dudes ..
@Lucap1000 I hate that I was too young to know anything about guitars when I got my first guitar. And nice! what amp is being used on this video?
its a great guitar for anyone and anything, and gibson would make me jizzzzzzz
You haven't played many older guitars, have you? The SG neck is quite thin compared to older Les Paul necks, for example.
that was a good review - thanks man!!!
ohh and i have the version with the 3 golden humbucks
A full on demo ,,great stuff my man!
Because, it's not illegal.
@Renallica100
SGs are actually smaller Les Pauls, they're basically the Les Paul 2nd Gen,but LP didn't want his name on it because he didn't like it.
My brother is 24, has been playing the guitar for over 11 years, and he only has 1 acoustic guitar and wants an electric one really bad.
@TriviumAscendancy1 Yea, but what are pickups? I'm not so familiar with the English music talk, sorry (:
What amp are you using?
The Epiphone Faded G-400 is $299 pretty much everywhere.
is this a good guitar ranging from metal - punk - and classic rock?
I just got the Epi SG Silverburst limited edition blah blah blah....The thing rocks! Will probably put in some hotter Gibson burstbuckers in but overall very pleased.
@GuitarMistress1 That's exactly why I'm saying I hate when people ask if it's a good starter guitar.
@ChuanKuiMusic how is the overall quality of the epiphone compared to gibsons
Is the Epiphone Limited Edition 1966 G-400 Electric Guitar about the same as this? Not much more expensive I think it's just cosmetic stuff.
you're not alone bro
is it good for ACDC songs ??
I have one
Im 13 too i have 1 year of lessons I got 2 guitar, very low quality scorpio and vorson
how do you switch between pickups?
I'm guessing your new, idk if your joking or not but there is a selector switch to pick your pickups.
Can you play metal songs with this one?
it's not a bolt-on neck, the G-400, right?
Nope :D
Thank you! Thinking of getting one now.
I wish you had have told me before because I've had it about a week and the parts keep falling off it lol
Sounds much more like what I was looking for
what would you gyus recommend... g-400 or epi Les Paul 100?
G400
Is this better than the epiphone sg standard?
@danielburgess3100 he is using the sg standard bro, dont get mixed up
i cant decide between sg and les paul??
i have the same guitar
I see a lot of people with a SG for church gigs. What makes the guitar good for church?
ive been playing guitar for 5 years... and 4 years electric guitar... i've never had a good guitar and i'm thinking of buying either this one, or epiphone les paul 100... or an ibanez GX (although i'm not sure about that one) ... which one do you think is better for me?? if anyone has an opinion on that pleasee tell me :) BTW i'm 16...
I'm torn between this G-400 and a Squier Standard Telecaster. Which is better between the two? Thanks
G-400 by far. If you want a Squier stick to their Classic Vibes. Those are grate guitars, but the Affinity / Standard aren't. If you want a Strat in this price range, check out the Yamaha Pacifica. SORRY BUT,WHAT IS YOUR AMP,MARSHALL OR RANDALL
@keithsa41 yes it is BUT the guitar is VERY light so it doesn't matter!
worn cherry or worn brown?
@CMPCKELLY the body is very light
I really dont know why everybody is crazy about Gibsons. My first guitar was a Gibson and i hated it with all my heart. The sound quality of it was just complete trash my second and current guitar is a Sg and i love it. Epiphone all the way :)

i just want to know if this guitar is good quality not cheap. i don't mean musically
An excellent demo. Thank you.
and also is cherry red gloss
Can you play blues on SG 400 pro ??
Alex Swage absolutely
Tbh, what guitar can't be bluesed? I can even see shred guitars do blues.
Thank you, man! It helped a lot! :)
i wonder if the neck is thin, and if the neck surface is wide? cuz i have short fingers but i really wanna grab some of it
Ryo Watanabe The neck is one of the thinnest Epi makes, calleda 60's slim taper. The nut width is 1 and 11/16" which is typical, not particularly wide or narrow. It's a good guitar for someone with smaller hands.
LincolnFStern okay, thx alot!!
how much euros does this guitar cost...?I have seen on the net that the same guitar is and Granite and not only Epiphone....
Man i would love o get paid for doing this.
i cant choose this or the standard
My hands are small... like 7 inches from the wrist to the top of the middle fingers. Would be the fretboard too uncomfortable or width for me? I would like a fender type of neck but I have always wanted this SG or Les Paul guitars but I've read that they have very fat necks.
so? Angus Young of AC/DC is not a big guy in fact he's rather small. and he's famous for use an SG. you're good.
