Children and Ruins can be seen as a waking dream inspired by deep-rooted fears and anxieties. The main character is a little girl who is still at a stage before the so-called age of reason. The child takes in the world around her by closing her eyes on what is immediately real, through dreams and fiction she invents, and by establishing secret connections between things. Why ruins? Because they visually represent a desire to build a new world from the old. How can a child go about this task starting from a story in which the meaning of everything around her has to be reinvented?
