INSANE Reasons Why RV Parks are DENYING Reservations

  • Do you agree with these policies and rules that RV parks are adopting?
5 reason why RV parks are denying reservations:
    1. Age of kids or the sheer fact if you have ANY kids, is a reason they can turn you away.
    2. Dogs and or breed restrictions. Even if you have a well behaved pup and you keep them in your rv most of the time, this rule is pretty black and white.
    3. Age of adults RVing. A lot of RV parks (especially in Florida) are 55 and up!
    4. Age of RV. This one is super controversial. We have found that parks are denying people with RVs older than 10 years,
    5. How many vehicles you have and what their ages are!
Did any of these surprise you? Do you think these rules and restrictions should be encouraged by RV parks? Or could this be hurting the RV community?

55+ is a thing for a reason no one understands until they do. When you know you know.

My husband is 55, but I am not yet. Will they allow me there anyway?

After living and traveling in our RV full time, I got super annoyed that every RV park just made up random rules and nothing was ever consistent. Most rules made sense and I understand why they need them, but every once in a while there was a ridiculous one. Some that felt super discriminatory even! That's why I appreciate the RVlife app, so helpful in finding a good park!

Put flexible cutting boards along where ice builds up then you just pull them out wash that and put them back in . We do it to our freezer works awesome

^^ This right here, those super thin, foot long colorful cutting boards work great. Just need to catch it before it gets super thick like u folks had.

Use an electric hairdryer to help defrost.

Be careful if you do, as water and electricity don't play well together. I did this once and water dripped into the blow drier and fried it. Fortunately, it didn't fry me.
We heat a small pot of water on the stove and use moist, hot towels to melt the ice quickly, mopping out the water from the melting ice with the towels.

We stayed at an RV park in CA while visiting Sequoia National Park once that asked for a picture of our 20 yr. old motorhome, before they would allow us to make reservations. This is the only time this has happened in the last 5 1/2 years of FT RVing. When they saw that it was will maintained they said OK. They said their 10. yr rule was there so that they had legal grounds to reject any RV that appeared to be in bad shape, with unrepaired damage, blue tarps on the roof or window A/C units secured with plywood and duct tape. They said vintage RVs like restored Airstreams, classic, pristine motorhomes and the like were welcome. We travel with a little chihuahua mix and a bird but have never been denied a reservation because of our pets. However, we have seen RV parks with a 2-dog limit or a "no dangerous breed" rule. Also, we have stayed several times in an inexpensive ($170/mo) "Adult Only" RV park in Los Indios, TX that allows children visiting, but not residing there. Young adults are fine, but if you have a noisy child, dog, etc. the seniors living there would complain, and you would have to go. I saw a guest wintering over there who almost got thrown out because he started feeding a stray cat. They said, "his cat" (which wasn't really his) was disturbing fellow campers so had to go, forcing him to take the stray to the animal shelter. I guess if it's their park, you must play by their rules or choose somewhere else to stay.
We're retired FT RVers who discovered we love to boondock in some of the most beautiful wilderness areas imaginable, so do so most of the time. No one cares how old you are, how many kids you have or what year and condition your RV is when camping on public land. As long as you move at the typical 2 wk. BLM and FS camping limit and keep a clean camp, who cares? You can get by with a lot at Army COE and FS parks too. We love the freedom and spontaneity that boondocking affords us, as we mostly come and go as we please, with few rules other than the golden rule.
It is rare for us to stay in an RV park now that we have finished our solar system and are electrically independent. Our system has 5,020 watts of solar, 23.5 kwh of Lithium batteries and a 6,000w of 120v inverted power available. This allowed us to boondocked for 10 out of 12 months last year because we can run everything in our motorhome, including our A/Cs, appliances and charge our batteries at the same time, even in the winter. We even have 24/7 A/C and heat from our heat pump. We have no need to hook-up to power pedestals or run our generator anymore, as we run everything in our MH strictly off the sun. Our reservations don't get cancelled anymore because we rarely need them now. We travel around the country a lot, visiting National Parks, and doing the tourist thing, mostly boondocking out west. We traveled through 11 states last year and 9 so far this year. We spent last winter off-grid near Yuma, AZ, but we're visiting our son in NC now, where boondocking places are pretty rare. We found an RV park that is letting us camp in a spacious site without hook-ups for only $100/mo., saving us $500/mo. off their FHU rates. Life is good.

Fair points. All of them they get away with because they have a limited resource. With a limited resource they can charge more money. With with that they also want few problems. All of your points, like it or not, they see as things they have to potentially deal with. Not because of you or many others but because their are some who ruin it for others. The management of the park gets the phone calls for noise or drinking or not following quiet times. (husky going to howl). They don't get good reviews because the park does not look nice enough for the fees they charge, so older vehicles and too many vehicles they see as an issue. They must have a pattern and with plenty of customers they are, for now, in control.
Think of free overnites at stores that is gone or going away because of the behavior of others. Sadly it becomes a general rule that hurts some unfairly. I am surprised they even took a reservation, it should have not worked from the start because of their restrictions. If they knew before hand and still let you come that is uncool.
Side note. We just visited a campground on Cape Cod. Well we tried to. They would not let us drive thru the campground because we were in our RV. If it was a car we could have but not an RV. My guess is they have had issues with people going in and not coming out. I get it but in my mind all we wanted to do was see the sites. But they had the rule because of past experience. Oh and I am in the past 55 club. :) I suspect at some point there will be campgrounds set up just for kids and families. Surprised FL didn't have those with all those theme parks.
