At 47, I wishfully regret that that the courses that you put on the internet for free were half as captivating and thought provoking as what I listen to in in school and so arduously sought out thereafter. It has become a portion of the moments that I find between my toils. I am grateful that you teach the way you do and that there are students of yours that are listening. At the very least, you are helping me see these stories in a way that I simply could not in my youth. I went back and out edited every bit of punctuation I could personally allow in the spirit of the subject. Keep going, please.
I really enjoyed this. Lots of material on Blood Meridian but not much on Suttree. I am haunted by this book and Suttree crushed at the gravesite years after reading. It has changed me. Can’t wait for part two.
I am going to listen to this series to satisfy my curiosity. I read Suttree to its conclusion, but it was an effort. Unlike Blood Meridian, The Road, or the Border Trilogy, I was not anxious to find out what would happen and there was no character I cared about. The main characters, especially Suttree himself, are repellent. I am curious of what McCarthy was thinking with this work.
Ah! I used to drink a vodka and it was like kerosene scented perfume. That delicate scent that takes straight up the nose and stays right between the eyes. Makes you fit to sneeze as it savages some mucous membrane up there. Yeah... that might be all i recall of my 20s.

Thank you!
Brother man, you are churning these out faster than I can read the books! Happy to see I'll have something to come back to when I'm ready for Suttree.

Currently reading The Orchid Keeper. Can't wait to get to Suttree to listen to this!
Regarding Suttree’s refusal to play the game, it reminds me of The Kid’s refusal to play “the game”. Or to Dance or Not Dance.
