Russia has threatened that this escalation would lead to a response in kind. That might be supplying similar weapons to Russia's allies or proxies. It might lead to a relaxation of the rules of engagement in places like Syria, allowing attacks on US/NATO troops there. It might also allow Syria's air defences to engage Israeli aircraft striking Syria. It may also prompt more technology transfer to countries like Iran, DPRK who are hostile towards the US.

"I think Russia said, as usual, that all targets were engaged, not the same as all missiles hit their target." Correct, what it does mean is that every target was hit. But not that every part of the strikes hit. UA airdfences nowadays however, is barely capable of intercepting anything. While they still had over 100 S-300 batteries back in 2022, they could intercept LOTS. In the video shown here of the missile strike on Rovno, it's perfectly clear that there were four hits, not "one or two". It's also very clear that the air defense is not working on these missiles at all, which is to say that most of the missiles have been shot down. The speculation about what type of missile and in what proportion was shot down is also of no interest to anyone, it's just talk. I don't understand what the conversation was about, there was no authorization for the use of long-range weapons. There was an article in the tabloids and nothing more. How about, "We're not here to discuss fakes and propaganda"? Besides, the use of such weapons will not affect the fighting in Ukraine in any way, it is just another fairy tale about the wunderwaffe that will now defeat everyone. And the confrontation between Russia and NATO will certainly be affected, perhaps Iran and its allies will have new missiles, perhaps several African countries will change governments, perhaps there will be even more fires at military facilities in Europe. The missile restriction lift is just funny really. Ukraine is allowed to use ATACMS only in Kursk. Far away from the Airbases that houses the VKS Heavy Bomber Regiments so its basically just a useless PR move. Wasting ATACMS on frontline soldiers are an absolute waste of a rocket that needs NATO satellite guidance.
It's a 'spanner in the works' by Biden to spite Trump. Trump will have to continue the escalation or risk being labelled 'pro-Putin' as he often has been. The new US administration will continue this proxy war as before, regardless of Trump's election claim.
The problem is that only USA troops can program these missiles. It's an even more blatant act of war by USA directly against Russia. No, it's not "funny", it's an attempt to avoid nuclear war. And the BIG problem is that UA uses its weapons against Russian civillians, not military. They are pure terrorists. Faithful adherants to the church of CIA.
It's insane to authorise the use of these long range weapons against Russia. Right now, there's a real chance of a negotiated settlement to this war in the very near future, which even Zelensky said has to happen. Authorising the use of these missiles is an absolute escalation of the war, for no other reason than to make sure the war continues. The Russian's have already said that the use of these weapons won't be seen as an act of war by Ukraine, but an act of war by the countries supplying these weapons. Ukraine simply cannot and won't win this war against Russia, so why the US is escalating it while trying to end the war is Gaza defies any logic at all, when one considors the potential consequences of the war in Ukraine compared to Gaza.
To me the approval of long range wepons in Ukraine is to compersate for the lack of artillery ammunition as a stop gap for replacement for artillery. Just my opinion.
This is not "posturing," bluffing or "sabre rattling," I believe that Putin is deadly serious about this. All we can do now is pray that Russia's air defence is able to deal with this or else this conflict is about to get a whole lot worse.
DW - I think Russia is way more responsible with military strength than the West is... they have no interest in a nuclear exchange and the west has proven to be practically unable to fight them conventionally... its just PR to secure the next trench of funding as the war draws to a close.
You could shorten the videos if yiu didn't talk about North Koreans fighting on the frontline, unless you have evidence to show us which no one else has.
IMO, the greatest immediate escalation danger in response to ATCMS is Houthis gaining more long range hypersonic surface to surface capabilities, which are by extension "anti-ship". So suppose Houthis decide to go after a US carrier, or even a frigate or destroyer, and RU decides that having their own people program the targeting solution using their own intelligence and guidance, since this is what US is now doing on behalf of Ukraine to RU with long range equipment, where does that leave us if the "Houthis" succeed? This is the problem with third parties directly engaging recognized combatants and using the argument "but the combatant is who pressed the fire button, not us" as the rationale for denying participation in hostilities... It won't fly on either side.
Torpedo's hitting boats typically hit harder under water. In WW2 even airplanes would drop torpedoes, that would continue under water and hit the target under water. So I wonder if these 'misses' exploded on impact with the water or the dam.
They probably are not misses given how precise they are - the dam structure underwater is far more than you can see, it can often slope back that way on the side with water, so might not be a miss at all. They are probably just weakening the foundations and making a warning shot. Also Iskanders and some of their other missiles can have chaff, decoys and ECM...
You're right on the money Will. Anyone tuning in to celebrate claims that are not verifiable & more often than not prove to be patently false or not relevant to the outcomes as claimed is just watching fan fiction. This is where the real insights are. I personally can't understand someone wanting to win so much they block out reality on the ground.
Russia is going to use nuclear weapons if there is an actual threat to their nuclear deterrence capabilities. Long range western missiles hitting deep inside their territory could become exactly that. In the end it depends which targets Ukraine choses to fire at. The US basically lets Ukraine decide if there will be a nuclear war. Bold strategy.
Ukraine can't use those missiles by themselves, they use advanced guidance system, military GPS which is encrypted and can only be used the trained personnel, so it would have to be an American boot firing it, probably also choosing the target.
If launched from the same point and targeted at the same point and jammed at the same point, they will end up at the same place. The latter they are jammed, the less the balistic variability will be. This looks like they were jammed near the target versus earlier along their path.
MIC/CIA/MI6 is being extremely wreckless here. This is simply a political undermining of the incoming administration and will have minimal effect militarily.
Willy, just a note, Biden said Ukraine could use long range missle attacks for self defense ; in areas of Russia where Ukraine was fighting. So that means Kursk
Remember when british were parroting how Russians are out of missiles... It appears British have spent all Stormshadows in war they are alegedly not participating in
Koreans speak Russian, I am probably just as surprised as you. The significance of the long range missiles is that US/nato supplies satellite guidance, targeting, programming, and a Ukrainian might put his finger on the red button.
IMHO you are wrong on the Tu-160 use. They are simply "quiter" than Tu-95. The way Ukrainians detect Tu-95 is they have people on the ground listening for these (very loud)planes. Judging from the reaction, Ukrainians have zero clue if the bears have fired or not. They obviously intercept bomber communications, but they can't tell uppart a training run from a combat one. Tu-160 flies higher and is harder to hear from the ground. By the way, its probably the opposite regarding spare parts situation. Tu-160 production line is active, and thus spare parts are not a problem.
A couple of points:- 1: On the length of videos, might it be worth considering making one that is limited to movements on the ground and immediate background info with a second video discussing the broader geostrategic and propaganda stuff since that's what is extending these now? 2: Schrodinger's North Koreans, I see little reason to send soldiers to Russia if they lack even basic Russian language knowledge. Presumably the idea is for them to learn and practice the Russian army's conduct which I expect means working directly with soldiers who have been demobilised or rotated out for some months. You can't do that if you can't speak any of the language you're going to be taught in. It's downright self-defeating if they're intended to conduct actual combat operations alongside Russian units. All of which leads me to believe that if there are North Korean units in Russia then either they've had Russian classes previous to going or they're observers.
Premises that long range strikes should off been used before is false. This is big escalation, easier this would result in targeting assets outside of Ukraine. Warhogs that are advising president are betting that Russia is going to ‘play cool’ now that war is lost, however this can still easily result in arming other parties as you have mentioned. That problem with North Korea is not 10k but over 5 million + soldiers which is actually probably numerically more than Nato 26:51 and Russia can together at this moment

"I think Russia said, as usual, that all targets were engaged, not the same as all missiles hit their target."
Correct, what it does mean is that every target was hit. But not that every part of the strikes hit.
UA airdfences nowadays however, is barely capable of intercepting anything.
While they still had over 100 S-300 batteries back in 2022, they could intercept LOTS.
Today, with barely any S-300s left and at most a few hundred inferior western missiles ready to use at any one time, can't do much at all.
Russia are saying anything they want. And it's seldom true. What we do know is that most targets are civilian. Despicable actions by Putin.
Zelensky stated that most of Ukraine's energy generation has been destroyed - this speaks volumes about the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense system better than any expert.
And about peace, Russia will never accept any deal that results in Ukraine joining Nato, unless Ukraine stops being a viable state. If joining Nato remains possible, the war will continue at least until all the black sea ports are under Russian control. Past Zaporizhia it will be possible to cross the Dnipro and head in the direction of Moldova. Possibly years away but I have little faith in the war ending soon.
Bull crap! Putin doesn't care about NATO. He wants to own ALL of Ukraine. And he is killing every single Ukrainian in his attempt to do so. And THAT is why he is in the wrong. And also why Russia can never win the war. This war will end poorly for Russia, and Putin will most likely not survive it.

All of which leads me to believe that if there are North Korean units in Russia then either they've had Russian classes previous to going or they're observers.
if Russia somehow brings the cubans into the war then it's GG
Its been GG since the start....
Sounding good Willy!
You can not type SS for obvious reasons but ok with such names as Azov, Kraken, Aidar, 3rd battalion? Which are essentially the same thing.
President Trump needs to immediately inform Zelensky that if he goes through with these attacks on Russia the U.S. will pull out all support for Ukraine upon President Trumps inauguration and Russia can do with Ukraine what they please
Wow, Ukraine's air defense outdone themselves, they shot down Cirkon despite the fact that they were not even launched)) and of course all Kindzhals are also was shot down by the Ukranian targets.
this man gets not enough like
Maybe it’s to train North Korean soldiers in an actual battlefield environment
