should ‘vegan only’ spaces be allowed to exist? 🤔

- should we have spaces just for vegans-a safe haven for community and shared values? or are they exclusionary echo chambers? in this video, i’m sharing my thoughts on vegan-only spaces, inspired by my trip to a vegan glamping sanctuary and a plant-based eco hotel in paris.
we’ll chat about the power of these spaces to inspire and build community, the debates around inclusivity, and how they can help us imagine a vegan future.
what do you think-should vegan-only spaces exist? and what’s your favorite vegan space? let me know!

Unfortunately I don't know any other vegans personally. There are no vegan only eateries around my area. So glad to see things on line.
i'm sorry to hear that :(
A vegan campsite would only be exclusionary if it demanded that prospective campers prove they were vegans.
As long as people are allowed to stay there regardless, as long as they only obey the rule to act as a vegan. It’s like going to a mosque - non-Muslims are allowed in, but they must respect the cultural norms whilst they’re there.
I went to vegan restaurants for ages before I went vegan, just because my wife was vegan, and I loved the food… and then I ended up becoming a vegan myself!
Has anyone ever complained about Kosher only delis ? "I demand non Kosher Matzo ball soup!" lol. Meat eaters just love to play victim.
I get so excited about going into a vegan space as myself and my boyfriend are vegan. My favourite local space is Cafe Kino in Bristol. Mount pleasant Eco Park in Porthtowan is my favourite holiday campsite also - it’s so beautiful with a vegan onsite canteen and great events.
As a vegan mother who couldn’t breastfeed l had no choice with formula- and you can’t buy vegan formula in the UK, I think soya formula is prescription only for babies with milk allergies. I think there is a difference between saying no animal products for adults and no babies on formula. It’s quite an emotive issue really, there is so much pressure and shame about not breastfeeding even putting aside the vegan angle, so it feels very judgemental beyond reason to me. There is not much choice involved and it feels like another way of saying ‘you’ve failed!’ I know some would disagree. I guess you could go further and ban people on medication which would have been tested on animals, and I think most vegans would not go that far.
I've been to 'The Spread Eagle' twice now, (because you've mentioned it), and I LOVE IT! Great suggestion for meeting like minded people there.
it's so lovely and cosy isn't it! every time i go there i get the vibe that it's not all vegans in there either. just a nice place for locals to go!
Vegan campout is lovely. I also do what I can with Vegan Runners club . They’re definitely my people.
We need these spaces because we need community.
Yes, thank you for bringing up this point! I think it’s so important to have real tangible examples of the world we want to live in! It’s important to have spaces that rejuvenate us as vegan activists and help remind us of what we are working towards and visualize the change we want to see.
i think it's the most magical thing! i'd love to do a week at a vegan hotel and just feel like the worlds vegan for a moment.
@@VeganBeautyGirl that would be a dream!
Hi Nicole, I enjoyed listening to your opinions about vegan spaces only. I giggled when you mentioned meat eaters are being difficult. in the last two years I thankfully have been making some vegan /veggie friends. Its so nice, as I also grew up not eating meat. I was a vegetarian until 2017 switched to vegan. 😊💚
i can't help but roll my eyes any time a man whinges 'why can't i go to a vegan restaurant and order steak??' you know you're in for a tough time with that one! haha
glad you've been making more veggie friends! it def helps to have some.
Great video again. I have been vegan for about 30 yrs now but I live with my daughter and her boyfriend and my granddaughter who are all meat eaters. Fortunately I never feel uncomfortable about what I eat. I also go out to karaoke twice a week to a bar that isn't vegan at all. Its funny that I have made so many friends there that have asked me about my vegan lifestyle and what I eat, that I started posting the occasional picture of meals that I have made on facebook so that they can see. So far I have had a very positive feedback from my friends that have said they would like to try it sometime.
yes i love that! i often think 'vegan's can seem so weird and they just have no idea what we do or eat. then when they see how yummy and normal your meals are, they're a lot more open to veganism.
What a passionate and thoughtful video! As a vegan activist, its wonderful to see someone so dedicated to spreading awareness about the importance of plant-based living. Here are some key takeaways from this video:
1. **Vegan spaces matter**: The speaker highlights the significance of having vegan-only spaces where like-minded individuals can come together, share experiences, and find community. These spaces provide a sense of belonging and can be a source of inspiration for others.
2. **Diversity within the movement**: The speaker acknowledges that there are different approaches to living as a vegan, from those who live in fully vegan households to those who may not have access to all-vegan environments but still make conscious choices. This diversity is celebrated, recognizing that both approaches can be effective in promoting veganism.
3. **Inclusivity and outreach**: The speaker emphasizes the importance of engaging with non-vegans and helping them understand the benefits of plant-based living. They suggest that a combination of both ultra-vegan approaches (e.g., fully vegan households) and more moderate, accessible approaches (e.g., individuals who still consume animal products but are open to reducing their intake) can be effective in promoting veganism.
4. **Normalization of veganism**: The speaker notes that even meat-eaters can benefit from experiencing a vegan-only space like the one mentioned in the video. This exposure can help normalize the idea of veganism, making it seem more approachable and enjoyable.
As someone who shares these passions, Id love to hear about your favorite vegan-only spaces or experiences!
I've created an 'all welcome' space.. it's called home. The😺😸I care for love it!
As a Christian, I'm more than happy to witness to Vs but I'd be barred from 'V only' spaces.. surely!
I went to the vegan campout a couple of years ago and remember some people there got kicked out for cooking sausages I am of the same mind that it seems disrespectful and mocking in a way? Or maybe just tone deaf. Yet I think there would be a difference between that and someone bringing some cereal bars and not realising they have honey in them, you have to take in account that veganism is is relatively niche and none vegans won’t realise to check items for the dried milk in their crisps. Then there was also the factor that the majority of people there are already vegans so when listening to the activists talk and things it did feel like a bit of an echo chamber in that it’s sort of preaching to quire in a way lol. It was so good to just relax and have an unlimited amount of options no awkward conversations of me asking if I can have certain foods taking out to make a dish vegan which was so relaxing.
You’re so thoughtful Nicole! I’m sober and when you mentioned about sober hotels etc and how alcohol can change the way you act I felt so seen. We need more people like you in the world. Also went to see Leena Norms last night in Sheffield she’s also a light in these dark times like you xx 🍉♥️🧿🇵🇸🇸🇩🏳️🌈 hope you enjoyed Newc xx
Yes meat eaters are difficult but unfortunately it's part of living in a non vegan world. I think it is good to have places that are exclusively vegan. Thanks 👍 for sharing this awesome video Nicole and love 🥰 it. Love 💕 Nicole.
I have faith in Christ Jesus, so V isn't important to me. Change my mind.. without referring to Genesis 1:29; which is totally irrelevant?
I'm vegan and am fully on board with vegan only spaces, I'd only struggle with not allowing non-vegan formula as I know some babies can only tolerate certain brands etc (I BF both mine so am not an expert!)
I think when I first went vegan (I was single) I was very much in the mindset of not wanting to be in a relationship with anyone who ate meat and was keen to seek out other vegans and vegan spaces. Now 9 years on, it's not something I really think about at all. My partner isn't vegan but often eats vegan meals with me (a win for the environment) and I don't live in an area with many vegan only businesses so there isn't much choice in that regard anyway
My recommendation would be Slice + Dice in Norwich - it’s the only vegan place left in Norwich and is a board game cafe as well!
oooh i love this! it's going on my list!
A space for vegans only? Would that mean vegans would shut up when the rest of us are having a steak? Hell, yeah! Vegan spaces!
I think not allowing formula is really awful, for some its a necessity. Some mums may really want to breastfeed but are unable to. Imagine being a vegan mum who wanted to breastfeed and you can’t which would be very upsetting, then not being allowed to go and stay somewhere vegan because you have to formula feed your baby 😩
Should or could? In the market sense, creating a vegan space and charging for this distinction is something they would undoubtedly do. In the social sense, it is more difficult to have a conflict of interests and costs in a restaurant that serves different dishes. Having an exclusive space would generate more costs than returns because the demand for vegan products is small compared to vegetarian (which is already not high enough) and non-vegetarian.
What a gorgeous and amazing food you had delicious, you should try vegan burgers with a bagel with cheese it was amazing you should try it. Btw amazing vlog once again God bless you ❤😋x
If you go to on a naturist holiday do you think it's acceptable to wear clothes??? There's always a reason why we go where we go. BTW I'm not a naturist, too body conscious. I'm just using a comparison.
Appreciate your thoughts! We have a Vegan UA-cam Channel too 🌱💓
It would be nice and relaxing for an all-vegan-place that’s affordable where I don’t have to see dead animals 😊 Where other animals don’t rely on us to give them dead animals like cats 🐈
Some people have to step off meats so they’re vegetarian but they find it comfortable and never think of dead 🐮 and chickens 🐓and bees 🐝😢
I love😺😸! V is for sappy people.
@ I like plant sap for great adhesive so I’m sappy 🥳
@ Great but somewhat pointless retort. Glue yourself to something far from me, as the😺😸boys & me will continue to eat 'dead animals'.
What are your pronouns?
@@NguyenVinhHang What are your pronouns?
@ what does gender have to do with ethical beliefs like veganism?
Of course. Just like that chef made his restaurant no vegans allowed (and then Tash wrongly raided it for this), I think it’s fine to have no non vegans allowed places as well.
It’s private property at the end of the day. Owner of a private property is allowed to expel anyone group they don’t want. Even if they didn’t want any blondes entering their restaurant, that’s fair, it’s their property and they choose who comes into their property.
Of course, stuff changes when you try this on public property. You’d need to get legal rights to do that in a public space that isn’t your property.
Thanks for another thought-provoking video!
glad you liked it! i'm rly enjoying veganuary as a chance to try these new things and get out of my comfort zone with youtube.
I'm going to visit Unity Diner to see what a 100% vegan space looks like. The problem is I'm going 3rd February when it closes for good 1st February. It's good to see "vegan safe spaces" being so well supported.
so sad that it's closing! just a few steps away there's vegan restaurants club mexicana, tofu vegan and dauns. so still plenty of choice, even if it's not the same
@VeganBeautyGirl
They'll all fall by the wayside, but good luck.
I think there is a place for vegan retreats etc in the same way there is for foraging retreats or raw food retreats or yoga retreats etc. You pay the money you choose to go. I think veganism is a choice, vegetarianism is a choice, and eating meat or fish or whatever is a choice and everyone has a right to that choice without judgement. I don't think anyone has the right o 'convert' anyone to their way of thinking. There is no right or wrong here it is up to each individual and whatever they choose is ok
Surely we want meat eaters to try vegan restaurants ? Seems a bit defeatist to not allow them to experience how good life can be as a vegan
There’s no reason why a non-vegan couldn’t go to a vegan campsite *as long as* you obey the rules and act like a vegan whilst you’re there.
I used to go to vegan restaurants before I was vegan but I knew I wasn’t going to be eating a steak. Meat eaters don’t *have to* eat meat every day, it’s not going to kill them having vegan meals for a few days.
i mean u can try open vegan places n stuff but most of thoose places end up closing down because yeah
I do raw carnivore as you may know from my other comments. I wouldn’t complain about a private property owner not allowing animals being eaten on the owned property/premises, but I would expect vegans to not complain when vice versa and no vegans are allowed. This is because some vegans do create problems and although there’s many that don’t, I understand business owners for example to not want any vegans since they don’t wish to cater for them anyway so it’s just avoiding inevitable conflict when vegans come, demand a plant based meal and then create a sour atmosphere when denied because there’s no such meals served at that place.
Just like I wouldn’t go to a campout at an animal sanctuary, I’d expect vegans to not go to a steakhouse with no vegan main meals.
@@denizkenger52 you might learn something at an animal sanctuary though..
What vegans are out here going to steakhouses that only serve meat??
@@z9ey probably same amount as the non vegans going to animal sanctuaries that only allow plant based eating.
"Meat eaters will do anything to be difficult" 😂😂😂😂 wake up girl
Dunno how tomorrow's breakfast, of a small steak + eggs on toast, is being difficult. I consider such to be nothing more than being properly nourished.
@Unmasking_Viandalisme you're delusional
Thank you 🙏💜
