My family often rode on a Greyhound bus from Griesbach army base ,where we lived in a PMQ house in the old section, downtown to the Union Bus Depot from the late 1950s into the early 1960s. We often ate a meal or enjoyed refreshments in the restaurant inside the bus depot. My dad was forced to retire from the army in 1964 and we soon bought a family house in Jasper Place. I have so many vivid memories of time spent in that Union Bus Depot reinforced by memories of sight, sound and smell. Many of those memories almost feel like they happened yesterday! I turned 12 years old in the year 1964.
The movie on the marquee of the Paramount Theatre is “Elizabeth is Queen”. It’s a documentary released in 1953 about the coronation of Elizabeth II. So that might help date this a bit. Thanks for posting these old flicks from your archive! I was a young child in Edmonton around this time. Lots of memories.
The coronation was a big event, and there was no television in Edmonton then, so this would have been the first chance for Edmontonians to see it. The title below looks like "Raiders of the Sea;" the actual title was "Raiders of the Seven Seas," originally released in April 1953.
Correction: The movie below is "Raiders in the Sky," originally released in the U.K. as "Appointment in London." "Elizabeth is Queen" was advertised in the Journal at least as early as June 11, 1953, with a special 10 A.M. screening for children, and free colour pictures of the royal couple to the first 1,000 boys and girls.

About 1960 I was enrolled at the United Way daycare immediately south of city hall. On day while outside in the fenced yard all the kids were running to peek through the fence to see the Queen. What's a Queen I asked? I looked too and found out 21 gun salute and all
You can probably date this film by the names of the movies shown on the Paramount movie theatre sign. I think this film would be 1953 to 1954, just before many family moved to Edmonton from Ottawa in 1956.
Everyone dressed immaculately. Gorgeous. Though we’ve made great scientific and social progress, the way we dress has completely deteriorated. I think it’s important to hold ourselves as well as others to higher standards.
......it was a lose........to the city, province and the country. The fares started to raise and the lack of interest over the years as interest of ridership made it hard for Grayhound to compete locally and provincialy

Looking at the vehicles and the movies playing ,I would say this film was in 1953. I grew up in Edmonton so of course the old Greyhound bus station ,CJCA Bldg. and the Hudson Bay store on Jasper Ave. are most recognizable to me. I was a little bit bigger then a toddler in 1953 but all of those bldgs. are still around except for the GH Bus Depot!
@@callmeishmael7452 I was pretty young to remember that GH bus depot but I believe that bldg. was on 101 St. and about 103 Ave.. The Greyhound bus depot bldg. of the 60"s up to about 2014,which I remember, was across from the Grande hotel on 102 Street. It is now part of the Ice district close to Roger's Place.

We used the Bus for many years untill it stopped service it was handy my 2 cents worth
Yes, people used to dress up to go on buses and to go to movies and sports events. Now they wear their gardening clothes to church.
