Kiryu is probably my favourite dark signer and while I’ve never played his deck I’ve always wanted to. The strategy is so unique “wanting to have no cards in hand” it goes against what you normally want in card games but it manages to work beautifully somehow for him.
The Infernity's actually were highly successful and rose to the top of the competitive ladder. The power of Archfiend granted them additional field presence and searching without giving up their normal summon, necromancer gave them a free monster every turn and sometimes even a free additional search if they summoned archfiend. Mirage gave them 2 summons and launcher two free ones. Beetle gave them 2 more monsters from the deck for no additional cost. All that graveyard summoning combined with cards like Dark Grapher and armagedon knight made them very consistent and reliable despite their lack of back-up from the hand. They also worked well with the two tuner superstars in plaguespreader and glow-up bulb. Both liked being in the graveyard so the milling that infernities often did only helped them. Glow-up bulb summoned itself for no cost and even milled further. Plaguespreader was a good way to remove cards from your hand and putting archfiend on top of your deck was good because you could get your special summon and search the next turn. You also had cards like summoner monk that helped you both empty your hand and get your key cards out of your deck. All this summoning power led to them dominating. Especially after the TCG exclusive infernity barrier which was basically a counter to anything the opponent might do. This combined with infernity break and infernity counter made them not struggle at all with card advantage. The fact that if they were beaten they had no cards was not as big of a hinderance as you would think. Since they had many cards like archfiend, mirage, necromancer, launcher and also cards like monster reborn that could get them back in the game all by themselves. That explosive power let them to summon multiple powerful synchro monsters in a single turn and utterly destroy their opponent. With a nice set-up they can go from 1 card to over 8. That said it was not entirely without risk. If you were behind in the duel and you didn't draw one of your power cards you basically lost right then and there. Also infernities could brick quite hard because a lot of their best cards didn't have much power by themselves. Cards like barrier, launcer, mirage and necromancer did nothing if you had cards stuck in your hand or didn't have appropriate targets in the graveyard. They also were vulnerable to several anti-meta cards like vanity's emptiness and vanity's lord which could utterly shut down their explosive plays. Cards like thunder king Rai-oh and Different dimension fissure made it impossible for them to set-up their plays. I played them a lot and I still really love the deck. It's tense but so much fun if you get your set-up together. There are also a lot of "heart of the card" moments where you need one of your power cards.
One of my favorite characters in 5ds next to Bruno. I do prefer the anime one a lot better but the manga one was fine. Either way Kiryu had a rough time. He was a test subject in the manga or he was a orphan who became a gang member who met his end through police brutality and prison.
4:14 That scene in the sub along with the harmonica theme is straight up iconic; I love how Kiryu goes from being a death god who wants to die to one who wants to live and use his dueling abilities to save the town. It reached insane hype levels for me when Kiryu went straight up Dirty Harry, all but asking Lotten if he felt lucky (PUNK) when he was told to guess if Kiryu drew a monster or a spell/trap card. All we needed was Kiryu to threaten Lotten's goons when they escape the mountain Tombstone-style, "YOU TELL THEM I'M COMING, AND HELL'S COMING WITH ME!!!!!!" For a season that felt at times like filler as compared to Seasions 1 and 2, the Crash Town Arc was a superb way to finish it off
I absolutely love Kalin Kessler. Back in my high school days, after watching both Yugioh Duel Monsters and Yugioh GX, Yugioh 5Ds excited me. And Kalin was among my favorite characters to watch in action and in story.
I really like how complex his character is in the anime, his speeches of him feeling dead inside made me really tear up and he made the crash town arc one of my favorite arcs in Yugioh. Also, his deck is fun to play
Anime Kiryu had a complete story for himself more or less. His past where he desired to unify Satellite and make it a better place for all the residents. Him losing his way after unifying it because he's been fighting for so long which caused him to go off on the deep end. The "betrayal" didn't help, which made him desire revenge and thus became a Dark Signer. And finally, him suffering depression afterward and thus finally found meaning in life again. There was really nothing lacking in Kiryu's story. For someone that ultimately was a side character, this is a great treatment for him. In several cases, he's had more development and growth than MANY Yugioh characters that just hung around the protagonist and were little more than cheerleaders.
Would have loved to see Kiryu joining team 5D's, maybe for once. Realy liked his character (2nd favourite after Jack) and development. What I always thought was funny about the Enforcers: they where just boys of 15 maybe 16 years old (looking at the time passed with them beating the duel gangs, Kiryu become obsessed with power, he died in prison and Jack leaves and become the Duel King (that has to take a year or 2))
I do think the story is stronger with how it went though. I really like how Kiryu both stayed true to himself and also abandoned his bad habits. He kept his desire to improve the world around him but abandoned his megalomenia. He became satisfied with a simple life just protecting the town and making it the best it can be. It's a good message about seeing value where you want it. Satisfaction town might seem like nothing but Kiryu has put value in it and it makes him content.
One thing that got my attention about Kiryu is that, both in the Anime duel along Yusei, as well as when he was dueling Jack on the manga, Kiryu used moves that alternated defeat conditions. That is, in both cases his life points were reduced to 0, but he still didn't lose the duels, which is something quite unusual in the entirety of Yugioh's world. When he uses his Infernity Zero to defend against Lotten One Turn Kill Gattling Ogre's damage effect; as well as when he also does not lose the duel when Jack uses his Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend to seemingly beat him. I so much enjoyed his duels! Also, for the record, the episodes on Crash Town of Yugioh 5Ds are my favorite episodes on the entire Yugioh Series. It's such a dramatic change to see Kiryus personality switching from the way he was to how depressed he got; and the way the children end up being his motivators for wanting to live. His interaction on the rail with their father was also quite sentimental. Furthermore, I have a soft spot for good villains! Lotten is such a Villain character in the story, and I love the way he faces Yusei And Kiryu at the same time - with an advantage of starting off with 10 cards on his hand. I think that was pretty villainish as well as bold at the same time. Anyway, great video! I hope this comment sort of enriches your content somehow. Loved to see your analysis.
Kiryu: leader of Team satisfaction. The scent of justice and safety. Until he became psycho Dark Kiryu: Revenge someone he got betrayed and wanted share the same pain and suffer as him. Until someone who didn’t betrayed him still felt sorry for him Crash Kiryu: just want to die. until he gotten better. Really enjoyed Kiryu. His duel, his character, and his story that i really enjoy him.
Actually that goes far beyond that: Hopefully 4Kids doesn't create too much innovation in every anime they dubbed. Even Indonesian dubs are more in track than them.
It's been 4 months since my last one.. Crazy that time flies that quickly. Hoping to make these a monthly/bi-monthly segment again! Glad you like them! :)
I like more Kalin in the anime case not only he was next or close to our Yusei but still the manga version is ok. in both versions Kalin had so many rough times & not only that, he had some cool moments in the anime especialy when Kalin trying to save Niko & West with their town and cant forget that duel with his new Infernity cards witch his daeck is olso cool. so i'd say i like Kalin more in anime. great vid 👍
What I really like about Kalin is how he maintained his persona after his reformation. With several reformed characters it feels they just swapped out one character for another one. But Kalin is still who he was but now uses his power to help others.

Man. Yusei lost deal with it ! If his bike didn't crash he would have taken Ccapac Apu's Direct Attack and lose. Yusei mentionned that himself. Besides, in WRGP, when you crash from your D-Wheel, you lose.
I'm watching 5Ds for the first time right now, and I loved Calin, he was a great character. I also can't get over the dub voice actor saying the earthbound immortals name! It was like he was trying to sound cool, but failed because of the name!
I love you,re anime and manga comparison of certain aspects of the yu gi oh franchise, because so many people only watched the anime(me included),so its a great opportunity to take a look in the manga version of the show, because there are huge differences in plot and Characters .
I'd also like to point out that in the manga he uses one of the funniest and worthless cards in the universe which is Infernity pawn I think that's what it's called anyway his effect is that if you have an empty hand you can't draw at all. And believe me not being able to draw isn't pleasent at all because in 99% if cases it costs you a game
I prefer anime Kalin(the only reason I call him Kalin is because I think that’s the coolest name ever) because of how twisted he is which I really like in an Yugioh antagonist. He’s also my favorite 5D’s character, alongside Aki.
11:33 It wasn't just guilt though. It was also a loss of purpose. He obviously can't go back to team satisfaction as that's long gone and holding on to it is what caused all the misery in the first place. So without the thing that made him have a purpose what is he? Why is he alive?
I think its pretty difficult to beat one of the best done characters in the Dark Signer Arc. Along to see what happened in Crash Town. But it’s nice to see that he was brought back in the manga!
Earthbound names are really complicated but Cc is pronounced as Coc, still I loved Anime Dark Signer Kiryu more because he was really crazy (vector level) and his redemption later was heartbreaking for me. I would have liked him being more in this series
This might sound morbid, but I wanted to see Kiryu commit suicide during The Crash Town arc. To hammer home the harsh lesson that in reality, you can not save everyone no matter who you are. That the only person you can control is yourself. Also, I think it would give Yusei some character flaw in that he would have to overcome the guilt of his friends death. In any case, great analysis.
Nice to see kiryu getting his own vid. I actually would have wanted to see void ogre in the anime, but I guess I also wanted to see the end of the crash town arc in the dub, but alas.
LOL it sucks because I feel like if 4K Media was dubbing 5Ds the way they dubbed DSOD/VRAINS, we def would have seen that ending dubbed. 4Kids was a lot more cautious for whatever reason
If its a choice between the first 5 I hope Judai/Yugi get chosen because I know a little of both manga selves and want to know more... though honestly i feel I am forgeting that you already covered one or both of them.
I'm surprised this wasn't a video you haven't done sooner considering how much you've talked about him in these videos! I wish the Crashtown arc was longer since a lot of episodes after the Dark Signers arc was much ado about nothing.
Crashtown arc should have been a bit longer AND Aki should have had an arc we she took down Divine and Arcadia, that would have filled Season 3 really really well!
@@YugiohEverything Tbh they coulda worked 5Ds better. Have the first arc centered around Yusei, second arc centered around Dark Signers, could've HAD a goddamn 3rd, 4th, and 5th arc. One For Lua, Luka, and Aki respectively. Have a 3 parter because Imo that two parter was underwhelming for Crow. Then the WRPG. Luka has literally not won a single 1 v 1 duel, and Lua has only won once. I couldn't take him seriously when I learned he, Jack, and Ruka were fighting Aporia. Then I see him pull out Life Stream Dragon and he became my favorite 5Ds character by far.
Kiryu probably one of the most Underated characters in 5ds and maybe in yugioh overall but I like the anime version better because of his development overall kind of wish would join team 5ds later on in the show
As usual, another awesome video. Also thank you for talking about My Hero Academia on occasions because I thought if you enjoyed it then I might and boy did I ever. Now that I'm all caught up on it though I want to finish Gx. Do you know where I can find Gx season 4 subbed? I've looked everywhere for it but can't seem to find it
I remember now of why I practically say both versions are great for its own right.. Because they almost exactly the same on both versions... Crash town is entertaining for me to watch but not that great... My older brother loved it as much as you do Dylan because he loves the progression and the story of that arc
Both of the versions where great but I actually prefer the manga version more 1 because his target wasn't Yusei for a change but It was Jack and 2 he doesn't dissapear in the manga like he did in the anime in the anime after the crash town arc we never seen him again (expect when he loses to jack in the end of 5ds) but in the manga he was there and he stayed with hack crow sect the twins akiza and akizas friends to fighting goodwins eye balls things for not capturing them like the eye balls did with the rest of the manga characters
Could you do Luna/Ruka and Leo/Rua next as their anime and manga counterparts are very different from each other and would make for an interesting video?
I'm not exactly in the best place right now, and as of now I'd say I've reached the Dark Signer Kiryu. Some background: got my heart broken because she wanted to go back to an ex (also an old friend). Needless to say, I got betrayed. So yeah... Also, I've yet to read the 5ds manga so anime Kiryu (if you by any chance know a site where I could read it, mind sharing it?)
Hey man, I am so sorry to hear that. I went through a really bad relationship experience recently and I know just how draining and absolutely awful it is. Heartbreak is by far the worst thing a human can experience. I hope things get better man, take as much time as you need to recover Unfortunately I bought all the volumes on Amazon and am not sure where you can read it online :/
@@wolfox7776 I read the 5ds manga on kissmanga, but I know people have varying opinions on kissanime and kissmanga, so I guess it's just an option I'm throwing out there. Also, sorry to hear about your trek towards being a dark signer. I hope this can't take you down, and helps take you one step closer towards being the best you, you can be.
Kiryu has the best voice in the 5D’s dub Marc Diraison owns that role and that laugh he gave in ep. 33 was glorious though I expect no less from the man who did Guts. Kiryu himself I agree great character and his deck is my favorite from 5D’s.
I was waiting this video ! I already choose Kiryu anime because I don't read the manga ! But I don't have to judge if i don't read it yet. But I still prefer Kiryu Dark Signer design and personnality. I feel the same thing: I feel resentfly. But the arc Crash Town is not bad. Am I the only one though it's like Prison Break ? XD
There should be a one more category imo. DUbb Kiryu and Subb Kiryu. In the dubb we don't see the final moments of Lotten while in the subb it's one of the more badass scenes in yugioh
No surprise here, I'm with you, I thought the anime version was better. The funny thing is I didn't start liking him till the Crash Town Arc. I was just surprised that they dropped him after that arc.
The ilister was a good arc after the signer arc but as a sequel it had no relation i knew it was gonna be a bad sequel arc when it started with 3 years later as a standalone arc the story of antinomy aporia paradox zone is great but as a continuation of dark signers arc it was pretty bad also what happened to the weekly episodes reviews
why didn't you show Kalin hundred eyes dragon next to the synchro dragons while he was a dark singer it was his deck boss monster at the time besides the earthbound imortal he used for that short time fun fact hundred eyes dragon has 100 more def then infernity doom dragon but besides that they share the same stats hundred eyes dragon share the same attack and def and level as Blue-eyes white dragon and red dragon archfiend/ galxly-eyes photon dragon. (I know my spelling is trash.) PS void ogre dragon has the highest def compared to his other synchro dragon.
Let's be real: his real nemesis is the banlist. Archfiend... Launcher... Barrier...
So true, I remember playing the deck at the time and that banlist was lethal, if Kalin had Void Ogre Dragon in the Anime that would’ve been insane.
His Eng Dub dark signer voice was awesome.
I still remember his laugh lol 😂
Yeah it was😍
nothing tops the original voice he went wild as a DS

Yeah he is great! Really loved the concept of his deck!
They need a link monster real quick
The deck is pretty fun, though the very rare cases of cheating kinda sours the experience a bit.
The Infernity's actually were highly successful and rose to the top of the competitive ladder. The power of Archfiend granted them additional field presence and searching without giving up their normal summon, necromancer gave them a free monster every turn and sometimes even a free additional search if they summoned archfiend.
Yeah I agree with that comment entirely! xD Although I wasn't as high on Bruno as you, Kiryu was one of my favorites
I really wouldn't have minded if Kiryu joined team 5ds but tbh I guess it was better than more characters getting sidelined.
Its not bruno its antinomy

So if the Yugioh series had been picked up by a different dubbing company after 4Kids, have you wandered who would voice the characters?
I think if funimation dubbed it I think kiryu would be voiced by Matthew mercer.
Skyrogue19 I think that Justin Cook would do a good Kiryu.
Dan green would voice everyone!
is that still possible, lets say funimation picking up yugioh and redubbing it?
Earthbound names are really complicated but Cc is pronounced as Coc, still I loved Anime Dark Signer Kiryu more because he was really crazy (vector level) and his redemption later was heartbreaking for me. I would have liked him being more in this series
The pronunciation is so tough , and yeah would have liked him to have more time as well!
Long time ago this awesome segment started
Another great video dude! By the way, we ever getting more of the 5ds episode reviews?
Kiryu>>>>>>Crow
He should've been the one who joins team 5ds, or atleast the legacy character who appears in Arc-V.
I could not agree with that assessment more! Never been a huge Crow fan, although he does have a very strong fanbase!
Why manga Kiryu(Kalin) has the duel academy duel disk and do you think it cannon?
One of my favorite characters
Let us hope the next one is Jaden/judai
Absolutely love Kiryu
Dark Signer ver., Normal ver., Manga ver., or God of Death ver., I love all version of him because he's my most favorite character in 5D's!😂😂
He is great! One of my favorites too!
my favorite character from 5Ds especially where is a Dark Signer
I just realized kiryu is wearing a Gx style duel Disk in the manga.
Oh yeah he kind of is!
You are right lol
ooooh you going to love Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains episode 74 dude
I love how you pronounce ccapacapu
My favorite dark signer gets some love nice
He's amazing! :D
Kiryu is Awesome
Nice to see kiryu getting his own vid. I actually would have wanted to see void ogre in the anime, but I guess I also wanted to see the end of the crash town arc in the dub, but alas.
LOL it sucks because I feel like if 4K Media was dubbing 5Ds the way they dubbed DSOD/VRAINS, we def would have seen that ending dubbed. 4Kids was a lot more cautious for whatever reason
Would love to see one of these videos for my boy Gongenzaka.
"Ah yes my favorite subject what would like to learn about"
xD
Did you do Alexis/Akiza yet?
Did both! :D
Alexis - ua-cam.com/video/e1R4dJF4eTM/v-deo.html
Aki - ua-cam.com/video/Yh4qcUO-VCw/v-deo.html
If its a choice between the first 5 I hope Judai/Yugi get chosen because I know a little of both manga selves and want to know more... though honestly i feel I am forgeting that you already covered one or both of them.
On which anime episode is mentioned his duel against Jack Atlas
I'm surprised this wasn't a video you haven't done sooner considering how much you've talked about him in these videos! I wish the Crashtown arc was longer since a lot of episodes after the Dark Signers arc was much ado about nothing.
Crashtown arc should have been a bit longer AND Aki should have had an arc we she took down Divine and Arcadia, that would have filled Season 3 really really well!
@@YugiohEverything That would've been awesome for Aki's character!
Then I see him pull out Life Stream Dragon and he became my favorite 5Ds character by far.
kiryu is probably my favourite side character in all of yugioh
Kiryu probably one of the most Underated characters in 5ds and maybe in yugioh overall but I like the anime version better because of his development overall kind of wish would join team 5ds later on in the show
100%! People sleep on him, but he is a terrific all around character
Honestly that Harmonika Looks Like a Coffin
Do you think the abnormal weather in your theory on darkness is the data storm from vrains
I hope things get better man, take as much time as you need to recover
Unfortunately I bought all the volumes on Amazon and am not sure where you can read it online :/
@@YugiohEverything thanks, I'll get over it asap, but asap doesn't mean fast.
Thank anyway, I'll find somewhere at some point
@@wolfox7776 I read the 5ds manga on kissmanga, but I know people have varying opinions on kissanime and kissmanga, so I guess it's just an option I'm throwing out there. Also, sorry to hear about your trek towards being a dark signer. I hope this can't take you down, and helps take you one step closer towards being the best you, you can be.
kalin is an under used character , they should've made him a signer instead of akiza or the useless twins.
His crash town design is sick kind of reminds me of zones design
Kiryu has the best voice in the 5D’s dub Marc Diraison owns that role and that laugh he gave in ep. 33 was glorious though I expect no less from the man who did Guts. Kiryu himself I agree great character and his deck is my favorite from 5D’s.
Kiryu is badass in any version, but I prefer anime because he had one of the best developments in series in my opinion.
Definitely agree Kawaki!
After the anime vs manga discussion on one of the main protagonists, can you do a discussion about the twins please?
please more these type of videos
Please make a video about Sora anime and manga.
Definetly the anime. I just was never able to get into the manga of 5d's outside of Leo and Luna's story.
If only Void Ogre Dragon was better. Really like it's design.
I like his anime version the best
I was waiting this video ! I already choose Kiryu anime because I don't read the manga !
But I don't have to judge if i don't read it yet. But I still prefer Kiryu Dark Signer design and personnality. I feel the same thing: I feel resentfly. But the arc Crash Town is not bad. Am I the only one though it's like Prison Break ? XD
Hope you enjoyed it Kirboo! Yeah his dark signer design is amazing!
@@YugiohEverything If Kiryu has Pokémon I choose Absol, dark type and design are similar and have Mega Évolution.
I could see that! I want Absol in Pokemon GO, can't find that guy anywhere xD
@@YugiohEverything So take the plane and let's exchange ! (Maybe I should work more Yugioh x Pokémon)
There should be a one more category imo. DUbb Kiryu and Subb Kiryu. In the dubb we don't see the final moments of Lotten while in the subb it's one of the more badass scenes in yugioh
Question: Why does Kalin have a GX Duel Disk in the manga?
Who cares?
No surprise here, I'm with you, I thought the anime version was better. The funny thing is I didn't start liking him till the Crash Town Arc. I was just surprised that they dropped him after that arc.
Thats actually really interesting! Glad you liked that arc then, and glad it saved his character for you xD
When the protag vid?
I prefer Kiryu Kyosuke/Kalin Kessler in anime
The real question is why does he use a gx era duel disk in the manga?
every time i hear the name team satisfaction i have to remind myself that is the actual name of the gang and not a joke an abridged series made.
I feel that lol 😂
Kalin was awesome
The ilister was a good arc after the signer arc but as a sequel it had no relation i knew it was gonna be a bad sequel arc when it started with 3 years later as a standalone arc the story of antinomy aporia paradox zone is great but as a continuation of dark signers arc it was pretty bad also what happened to the weekly episodes reviews
My favourite 5ds character next too leo/rua
he and Luna together is good as well
@@haydenthomas9841 I know but I'm speaking about my favourite characters of show
Sorry I just find it would be good to have twins at same time that's all
@@haydenthomas9841 luna is cool too
@@GokuBlackZamasu_ yeah that is why it's good to have them both for done at the same time because there journey is similar in both anime and manga
May I have a link so that I know where ur reading dis anime cahh I can’t find a decent 1 😭😭😭
Kiryu story in the anime is great I like the manga version to but the anime wins it on that part for me
They are both good! I agree big duel!
You better stop Dylan 😂, I know why you said, " Satisfied me more" Team Satisfaction, tsk tsk
I like his anime counterpart better.
im still waiting for the next episode
They use the GX-Duel Disk in the Manga?!?
why didn't you show Kalin hundred eyes dragon next to the synchro dragons while he was a dark singer it was his deck boss monster at the time besides the earthbound imortal he used for that short time fun fact hundred eyes dragon has 100 more def then infernity doom dragon but besides that they share the same stats hundred eyes dragon share the same attack and def and level as Blue-eyes white dragon and red dragon archfiend/ galxly-eyes photon dragon.
(I know my spelling is trash.)
PS void ogre dragon has the highest def compared to his other synchro dragon.
