The Sheldonian Theatre is a prime Oxford University building: it is where the students become members and it is where they receive their degrees: matriculation and graduation. A17th century construction it was designed by the famous architect Christopher Wren and sits proudly alongside the oldest edifices of the University. It is said to be based on the Theatre of Marcellus in Rome and is protected by a row of bearded 'emperors.
