This call took a longer because I wasn't sure how they were controlling it when I couldn't find the thermostat where I figured it would be at. I found the defrost clock not always kicking in and out like it should by accident and was not the primary reason for the rack being warm. Once I found the thermostat I noticed the store map that I first looked at showed the thermostat being located in-between the middle cases but because things are normally not labeled well or at all I didn't put any faith in it. Now I know where it is and so DO You! 😂🙆
Thats the nice thing about mechanical stuff is you can troubleshoot it and figure it out. The new digital stuff your only option if its broke is to throw it in the garbage.
Man I'm so glad I don't see those gang clocks anymore. Seeing how that EPR has a solenoid, I would definitely bury that TSTAT and just run it off that EPR. Nice work as always 👍🏻
I have that Hikmicro Pocket2 as well......and i completely agree....it is awesome and has great resolution over my Flir One Pro. Great video Rick. Thanks for sharing.....Happy Easter to you and the family
hey bud i like your work ethic, you've made me a better tech because of it. thank you for taking the time it takes to put these video's together and, Happy Easter to you and you're family my GOD BLESS!!
Was that a thermostatic switch up in the canopy? A non-adjustable one that closes and opens at a preset temperature? And what does it control? I'm thinking the solenoid in the bottom of the case? Those supermarket systems have so many points of possible failure it' really looks tedious just trying to figure out what the plan is. Now I know why refrigeration techs don't or refuse to service supermarkets.
I believe it had a traditional Honeywell style thermostat as you described in the canopy or in the kickplate down below that’s adjustable. It likely controlled the solenoid valve. This system has been updated to an Emerson controller and those defrost clocks and thermostats are gone now. It’s now being monitored and so we can see exactly when, where and what’s going on.
Great video brother. Finding the thermostat is half the battle sometimes. Also watch the little dip switches on those clocks. I have found some that wasn’t making to send circuit in defrost . We purchased some through Grainger and replace when needed. Those old clocks parts are getting hard to find. Happy Easter.
That kind of store you might find more and more defective sections , for sure it will keep you busy for a long time , troubleshooting all the problems and solving them
Damm i love the videos sometimes i learn alot then sometimes i space out im like wtf thats a lot of valves and switches. Ima just gonna stick to residential changing filters😂😂
Believe me I don't like these beat up stores. Simple things like knowing the cases are warm in advance of having someone's to go out and look at the cases is something we take for granted in the other stores.
I noticed at 9:15, the old defrost clock only had 3 defrost defrost pins set, where the new/rebuilt had 4 set. so that would make it seem like it's skipping or turning a long way before triggering again after the 3rd defrost. I almost didn't catch it and that may have fooled you into thinking it was bad and skipping. anyway I'd imagine the long plastic arm the pins hit and move is what wears out the most and of course the micro-switches, which I'm guessing one of the switches may have been going bad/intermittent, whichever is using the normally closed contacts to bring solenoid on. looks like there was a defrost termination(solenoid) on the clock, so maybe something in the cooler/thermostat/s triggers the early termination and not working? who knows if that's used or not though. it's a basket case wiring nightmare, probably long lost documentation/diagrams and nobody has been there long enough t know jack-sheet. lol so the typical fudge-fest 💩
I believe I copied the old one the same as the replacement one. (I might not have put them all back on the old one because I was going to throw it away). Either way, even if it was three instead of four the defrosts they would have been spaced equality and would have clicked in and out faster. It was more about the termination click than the actual click going into defrost. I was grasping for straws at that point because I couldn't find the thermostat.
Wow that's the biggest defrost timer system i've seen Pretty cool how you can see the motor spinning Through the clear hole .. The camera can you use On windows pc will it display on a windows pc For bigger picture ?
I haven't connected it to my computer but it does video with audio, it's pretty amazing what all it does and you can use their program with the computer and actually look at all the individual data points that the camera captured. Flir doesn't have anything close to it
@HVACR Survival Okay ... That's why I want to know that communicates with computer if you can display on screen .. Because you can't do that with the flar cam Because they won't release the drivers Thanks for responding back If you give it a try Let me know lol
@HVACR Survival Question .. Can a frigerator explode ... I used to have appliance Business back in the day never heard of this ... Video of a guy's fridge exploding How is this even possible ? ua-cam.com/video/A169-s4KHFQ/v-deo.html

Great work. Well done. Thank you.

Great video Rick. Thanks for sharing.....Happy Easter to you and the family
It's awesome 👍👍
Great Video. Thank you for sharing
Glad you liked it.
Good stuff!
Much appreciated 🙏
Much appreciated 🙏
Great job Rick, Your getting better at commercial repair. Happy Easter to you and your family.
Thanks for your support🤜🤛👍👍
Nice troubleshooting as usual and yes we enjoy the vids all you tradesman & tradeswomen put out ... Thx and Happy Easter as He has risen 🙏
He is risen indeed
Great video! Respect your troubleshooting ability. Step by step to get to the problem and big picture diagnostics. 👊
🤜🤛🙏

Wow Marvin, that means a lot man! It really does🤜🤛
Yeah that's all above my pay scale, I did small stuff for a major beverage company. Still love seeing you work on it.
Awesome! I'm glad someone is watching these. I didn't have anything else recorded this week so I had to make this one work.
Happy Easter may you and be blessed. You did a great job!
Thank you! It's been good!

Over time those controls will self adjust themselves warmer and need to be re adjusted. Just did one last week.
Interesting, this is the last store like this, it's getting updated this year

Thanks for the info Michael, happy Easter to you as well!

Exactly, I found several smaller things that should be fixed but.....
I’m thirsty now!
Damm i love the videos sometimes i learn alot then sometimes i space out im like wtf thats a lot of valves and switches. Ima just gonna stick to residential changing filters😂😂
As long as you're happy that's all that matters. Life's too short to hate what you do everyday
Should have jumped out the tstat and just set the EPR as long as the epr closes in defrost then you're good
I seriously thought about it.
the canopy you take the screws out and it just swings out the canopy it looks like its gonna fall but it doesnt seems sketchy sometimes
Where were you that day 😂. That would have saved a lot of time, nobody labels anything worth a crap so I didn't believe the diagram.
👍👍👍
when do you do these repairs? in the middle of the night?
No did it right in the middle of the day. Just like when we work in restaurants, I'm working underneath people's feet while they're cooking food
This thermal camera seems really nice. My wallet is starting to resent you Rick !
You love it and you know it😂👍👍.
I admire working on the old stuff but it eventually gets tiresome

Witch camera, the infrared or the one I used to record
@HVACR Survival The infrared camera Would it work with windows Would you be able to plug in to a p c and display the picture on the computer ?

Not related to the video. I was wanting your opinion on ultra sonic leak detectors. I don’t know how to send you an email

What infrared camera is that
It's in the description with a link to it.
