Chorus:
But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

Who else is here because Billy Joel said this is his favorite song while on the Grammys red carpet. I love and grew up listening to B.J. I Iove all his music.
Just heard him say it, and I thought I should come back to check this out. Great decision!
😂😂😂
Me !!!
I heard it earlier today.. but here to listen. It's been a long time since I've heard it.
He still sounds good!
That would be me. How cool!
I had to come listen.., I just pray he writes more! His new song is Fantastic!
My dad showed me this song when I was very young, but I never really cared for Billy until a few years ago when my dad passed. I looked through his old Vinyls and found a little gem named "Storm Front." I cried for a good while. I sang this song at one of my choir concerts in high school for him, and cried again when I went to my first concert, and the crowd sang this song into the open night sky.
I love Billy Joel now, almost as much as I love my dad. Thanks Billy, thanks for reminding me of an old friend, and an even better father.
This is one of the most heartfelt comment I've ever read. You made me cry and somehow peaceful at the same time.
This is beautiful. Crying as well...
thnks for sharing, its great to see what a song means to us...god bless x
Music can touch a heart....when nothing or no one else can. Peace Be!
Thanx for sharing your feelings with 💓 us
I hope Billy lives to the age of one hundred, because the world won't be the same without him. He's a gift to humanity, from God.
Indeed, a treasure to me for many years
@@michekids And he'd feel the same about you...
I feel the same for Josh Groban ... a gift from God
He's healed my tragedies ❤
@@mercedespernas Dame here...
I think deep deep down..... everyone knows this is Billy Joels best work
No doubt one of his best.
Hunter Mirr, never truer words written. I like that it isn't as well known as some of his others.
Couldn't agree more. This song is perfection, in the depth of its lyric and simplicity of its melody. It's like a hymn of the heart...reminds me of the Gettysburg Address - says so much in so few words. Just genius...
totally agree!
Jennifer Felix I remember in like 2009 or 2010 he had an interview with Howard Stern on the radio, and Howard asked Joel what he thought his most unappreciated song was. Joel was about to say something but stopped himself, then played And So It Goes on the piano.
I am an eighty two year old woman who still sings and enjoys beautiful music and I will be singing this very shortly in our music club concert. One of my favourites!
Next time you sing it, think of me.
Every woman I ever new did this to me.
Abby Du Toit That is so beautiful...❤️
Il Y Aura Du Soleil ?
That is wonderful
Abby Du Toit good for you
This song has always made me emotional and then they had to go and use it on This Is Us tonight and got me full on sobbing. Rest easy, Miguel.
That's why I'm here now, listening to this song. Of all the many episodes of This is Us, who knew that the one about Miguel would be the most gut wrenching of all. The deeply meaningful words of this song was so apropos. Rebecca and Miguel gave their hearts to each other when no one else approved but in the end, it didn't matter. Miguel never left her side.
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you, soon, I suppose...
I’d never heard this song until I watched This Is Us. It made me weep. It touched my heart so deeply. I told my husband I want that song for my funeral. I’m including it in my funeral program.
@@melonydervin5463 it’s a lovely song.
" I don't know. But it's a good question. Ask me again later." I'm not crying, you're crying...
I know!!! 😭😭
"My silence is my self defense..." idk why but that lyric gets me so emotional
SFalcon cuz its relatable
Life!
Silence has both saved me and splayed me at the same time..."and so it goes"
I'd be honored if some Billy Joel fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of his classic compositions ALLENTOWN and VIENNA on my channel in tribute to the master. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
For me the line is "And you can have this heart to break". The vulnerability in that line gets me. He's giving her his heart, knowing that she might turn it down, knowing that she might break it, knowing the pain it would cause him, but willing to risk it.
Billy Joel himself said that "And So It Goes" is the definitive song of his entire catalog.
And he would be wrong
Nah. Movin Out.
I'd say it's his second most beautiful song after Souvenir...that is one underrated gem!
@@chrisgeorge4325 Really? I am a BIG fan but Billy's voice is just OK and the entire song is the same cord and a monotone voice. I would say it is one of his worst songs. The lack of play time and down loads in the world agree with me. He likes it because he rarely sings it at concerts because no one likes it.
Opinions...and all that
A girl I briefly dated in the summer of 93 played this to me before she went off to college. She was one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever known. Every so often, I listen to this song and think of simpler times with her. Far away from these complicated times.
I hear you and understand. Somethimes I wonder do we make things more complicated than what they are. Learning to let go of what we can't have is a freedom we can only give ourselves.
made me cry... that was my summer with a love I will never forget...
@@anniecallahan3945 You can hopefully cherish those memories. That’s all we have sometimes.
The last time I saw him… but never stopped loving ~
I have no idea how someone can use their emotions to create something so heartfelt. Most of us would just eat ice cream and cry.
lol so true ...
He has written a lot of great music but he will NEVER write a song this beautiful again.
His new song, "Turn the Lights Back On" is stiff competition 😊
In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along
I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense
And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose
But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
Thankyou for the lyrics! I like to read along with the video like a double whammy!
That song always leaves me spokeless.
This song made me bawl my eyes out as it played on Miguel's story on This Is Us. So beautiful!
Christie call me to .I cried like a baby 🥲
That's why I'm here
I've probably listened to this 20 times since they played it on Miguel's episode! It speaks to my heart so well!
@@janetmajor1152 ....Funny thing is this, my wife and I were watching this episode and I fell asleep but this song woke me up.......I had to rewind the show a couple of times and finally pulled the song up on youtube and have played it almost everyday......we "hear' alot of songs but when you can 'feel' the song, its special
It was a GREAT episode…. However it totally makes sense that it would have been a classic song from Billy Joel that brought the well of tears out of my eyes!! I am really going to miss This is US! 💙 Every episode, every season… well done!!
The words, the piano chords, are like drops of blood from a heart, a heart that failed.. This song is the saddest, most beautifully, and painfully truthful, of any I have ever heard. He is a genius, of pain.
Alan oooo sorry
I was kinda high when I read this comment, while the song was playing, you sort of stole the show for my attention a bit with this comment.. Definitely, in the moment, well done.. thanks.
"Melodrama's so much fun.....in black and white for everyone to see!!" Your post made me think of that line instantly.
@@ToddMcKean31 Now I'm pretty neutral on Joel's song here...
but in your estimation how is it a rip off off "Hallelujah"?Because they're both quiet songs??
@@BobCat623923 I guess ol Todd went away. AFAIK this song was released before Hallelujah was written. Hallelujah uses a long established chord progression, which is part of the point of the song, and this song uses some of the same ideas.
When I divorced my husband, my mother came over, said nothing & played this
I’ve never cried so hard, I’m 6’3” & I broke down in my moms arms
I still cry when I hear this 🥺🥹🥺
Mum❤
My fiance and best friend died suddenly on March 26, 2018 from a heart attack the week we were moving in together. I dedicate this song to her now and forever.

This may be the most underrated song of all time. How have I only discovered this now?
Isn't it a great song?
But discover it you did!
I don't know, but this may be Hallelujah part 2
Same for me, after hearing the last phrase which was used in a Boston Legal episode. Just that last phrase and the music...I was hooked. What a hauntingly beautiful song!
Because it's now that you need it
This isn't a song... It's the world's most beautiful poem...
"... So I will share this room with you, and you can have this heart to break..."
I completely agree, and I search the earth for songs like this
He must have really been in pain when he wrote this. You can hear the agony in his voice. Just so real.
Brian Vetter i cry for a day every time i listen to this song
Max Baum Me too
+Brian Vetter he wrote this to his ex- long term girlfriend
+Angie The Killjoy it was actually written 6 years before he released to to Elle McPherson, shortly before meeting Christie Brinkley:) i'm sure you can find the demo of it on UA-cam from 1983.
He's said that he wrote it due to his relationship with Elle McPherson.
This song and This Night were written about her.
My husband’s declining health and current hospitalization brought me here this morning- I hear the refrain - And so it goes, and so it goes-
Day 30 - ICU. Writing another update to my 3 closest friends- every day it’s more of the same - with very slow gains . “Recovery” will bring us both challenges - adapting to andas needs for assistance and accepting this is a there will be more until the inevitable.
So sorry
Saying prayers for you and your husband. My hubs spent 2 weeks in ICU so I know how you feel. Unfortunately, mine didn’t make it home. We lost him 6 years ago. I pray for health and happiness for your family. You’ve got this! ❤
I am here because I heard this beautiful song on The Lost Letter Mystery's. I didn't know who sang it, never heard it before. I so love it now. Wish I had heard it years ago.Love to you all.
I just watched This is Us on my DVR. I always loved this song but it absolutely kicked my ass tonight. I'm a 54 year old man ugly crying at the end of a TV show. It was just so damn visceral. Thanks Billy. RIP Miguel.
I was ugly crying too. I was sobbing 4 minutes into the show. By the end of show. I was a complete mess!😭😭😭
Me too!
That was a rough one 😢
It's a tv show stupid
well said my friend..
I have been listening again and again to this song for several hours now. The metering is hymnal. The words: conditional and subjunctive. Transactional at the last plea. It's like an unsent love letter which was accidentally read.
+Randel Urbano What a beautiful description!

Randel Urbano ...dude...just close your eyes, open your ears and heart and enjoy.
Did he write the melody? I have a feeling he didn't. But it's a beautiful song.
"And you can have this heart to break...." gives me chills. What a beautiful lyric.
My favorite line from the song. Had it happen not so long ago.
When this song was on the charts, I had just begun a very precarious relationship, shortly after having been left by my wife... In other words, the song fit my current situation to a "T".
Yep. This lyric is one that stands out not only in this song, but it is one that stands out for me in all music. It is one of the best lyrics I can think of in any song. The vulnerability of love -- captured in a single 8-word line.
to think, 6 years later i read this comment literally as it was being sung. That is why i like the internet.
“And you can have this heart to break.” For me, this song embodies courageous vulnerability. Despite every past loss, I will rise again and open my heart to love again. And again. Come what may. By far my favorite Billy Joel song. Sublime.
Hey hello, I just turned 20 and I'm finding it hard to be vulnerable because I don't see how it's worth it. Can I ask for some advise? This is my situation:
I don't think i have a problem with being vulnerable if I know that a person cares for me. The thing is that I usually don't believe people care, I guess I'm kind of cynical, although not 100%. And for that reason I don't see why it's a good idea to "rise again and open my heart again to love". I mean, if nobody cares, there's no point in hoping for love and getting hurt for something that doesn't exist - you'll just be hurt for nothing.
If I may ask for your thoughts and advise on this matter, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
That line, it’s a killer. It’s the ultimate sacrifice because you love somebody so much that you would offer that.
One of the greatest song writers of all time. Fact. :)

This is one of billy Joel's top 5 favorite songs he wrote

I sang in an a capella choir version of this song for the last concert of my senior year in high school. it was an emotional moment that I will never forget.
we started doing it today in my choir and i was hit like a truck with how good and deep this song is
yeah, it's awesome.
Daniel Cropp I did too! at Buena high school, years ago. had the auditorium in tears I heard! good times, high school
+D JoneZ yeah!
Gentlemen songsters a cappella group did this at my high school like 8 years ago and it was so beautiful I fell in love with the song it's why I'm on this page lol
I was listening to this when my girlfriend came in distraught that our beautiful cat ‘Renwee’ had died... He was beautiful, intelligent, and a completely bonkers little guy and we adored him so much. We will never forget him, this track will always help us remember that place and time and just how special he was. It’s not always the human interaction, the loss of our furry, feathered and scaly friends are equally traumatic. We planted a ‘Renwee’ tree soon after we lost him, the sad thing is that it is now almost as tall as my wife, but the positive thing is that we still love and miss him just as much.... we will never forget Renwee and we thank Billy for playing such an important role. Xxx
Beautiful but sad story. RIP Renwee from a cat lover and Billy Joel fan

+odia julius So very true Odia. True/real musicians purely speak from their heart and soul.
me too man, me too.
The first time I ever heard that song, And So It Goes, I could identify with it, and I stopped in my tracks like OMG!
And I actually began to cry. When I got married I had my brother perform this song at the church, and he had told me, he had such a hard time even rehearsing the song, because he would cry too!
It's a very deeply heartfelt song, and honest to his vulnerabilities he felt at that time! Gives you a real idea of his true feelings. There's nothing fake about these lyrics!
This is without a doubt Billy Joel's most beautiful song. There is nothing else he has done that compares with it. It is obviously sad, but so lyrical and moving. Thank you Billy for all the wonderful music you have given us. We can never repay you enough!
Its really beautiful. So also is lullaby. Both very beautiful

Iv loved billy for years but never really took notice of this song but its beautiful
Iconic
Billy Joel has many great songs
But this one
Rises above them all.
It is a beautiful
Poem
With layers and layers of meaning...
It is only by breaking one's heart
Truly breaking it
that one comes to true, pure Humility
and in that Humility
a Deeper, vast Hall of love
Opens up.
The vulnerability of entering a relationship, and how profoundly we can touch one another has rarely been so poignantly expressed in a song. The tone is soft, but the message so powerful. Billy Joel is an absolute MASTER story teller.
Just saw him in concert tonight. He was amazing. He didn't sing this song though which was a bummer. But just as well to not cry.
Perfectly put.

...so I would choose to be with you, that's if the choice were mine to make...
has me tearing up almost every time
So I .
Just beautiful
I heard this beautiful song for the first on the show "This Is Us" this week. They play the most amazing songs! This song is so beautiful & it made me cry. What powerful lyrics! I grew listening to Billy Joel in the 80s but had never heard this song. Glad I know it now. ❤❤
Same💔😪❤
Hello, how are you doing?
Since hearing this song for the first time it’s had a profound affect on me. It took me awhile to grasp the song’s concept but all I had to do was look inward. Love is good, it’s bad, it’s indifferent. When it works it’s invincible. When it doesn’t it’s crippling.
Everybody just wants to be loved for who they are. That’s it.
Love is about exposing yourself to someone else, warts and all. Taking that leap of faith.
Or I should say believing in it enough to take that first step in the first place.
"Everybody just wants to be loved for who they are. That’s it."
Says it all.
I fell in love with this song when Oliver and Shane dance to this on Signed Sealed and Delivered. I had to search to find it, and I listen to this and other Billy Joel's songs.❤️❤️❤️
@@lorainelambert8548 Yes same here. I’ve just discovered Signed Sealed Delivered in New Zealand. This song is absolutely beautiful.
Crippling is the word.
wow, so nicely written
This could be his greatest composition. Simple but with chords like that. Wow. The crowd can be proud also as I think they really add to the chorus with a smooth topping of choral mellowness. A sheer delight to listen to. He will be an immortal.
Derian Jones: I agree totally! This song is so heart felt, extraordinary and simple, all at the same time. If there was ever a definition in the dictionary as to what a well written song should sound like, this song would be "Exhibit A" for real! Thanks to the piano man himself, for a great song/performance. Enjoy! Cheers, Sam.
Goodnight My Angel would be my pick, but also She's Got A Way About Her. But then...with his repertoire, how does one choose?
Derian Jones is this similar to The Lulaby for his daughter? The 2 songs remind me of each other.
I think personally that Souvenir is quite possibly his best work, but this comes very close in my opinion.
Tbh it's difficult to pick one.

This was performed at the memorial service for a young friend of my daughter. I heard it three times that day and now I have the image of Julia in my mind every time I hear it. A beautiful song for a beautiful soul.
My mothers love for Billy has brought me here and bonded us. This has been a favorite of mine for over 25 years.
*My mother is Elle Macpherson. I love this song.*
The TV series "This Is Us" bought me here this evening with the "Miquel" episode and this song playing near the end of the episode. Just beautiful
This is my favorite Billy Joel song, and I'm grateful to "This Is Us" (5/3/22) for giving it new life.
When the audience starts singing along with you, it's magical. But then, this is Billy Joel. He IS magical.
They don't make enough music like this now a-days.
*Justin Beiber starts singing in the distance*
There aren't so many equivalents of Billy Joel in any era.... and bear in mind too that it's not always the best songwriters whose music becomes famous!
They don't make ANY music like this anymore (sadly).
You don't like snare drums and auto tune?!?!?!?!??!?!?
+alex spectre You're looking in the wrong places if you don't think there's any music like this anymore.
Most amazingly written song ever. Close your eyes and absorb the lyrics.
I did just that, and the tears came...amazing song..I played it after watching This is Us..😢
I closed my eyes tonight and just cried. Not only are the lyrics superb (heartache)...but the haunting melody has been my life. I have a fresh start with love....grateful for another chance. ❤
"And i will share this room with you. And you can have this heart to break".

Oh Yeah !
I LOVE this man's music. He is not only a musician, he is a poet. His words, combined with just the right melody and harmony, hit me right in my core.
Yes!
This is positively one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. The purity, the unalloyed aim of the music and lyric together are at the very highest level.
Just got done with Season 2 of AFTER LIFE by Ricky Gervais and this song was at the end of episode 5....so fitting and oh so sad....deep in the feels. I just had to come here and listen to the full song. My dad is a BIG Billy Joel fan! Thank you for the music Piano Man 💖
Same story…just finished season 2 and looked up the song…fitting
Yep same reason ….. cheers
Afterlife is where I have found this beautiful song
That's why I'm "here," too. I lost my dad about a year and a half ago; I heard this song at the close of "After Life," and just felt I needed to hear it from beginning to end.
Same!!!
One of the greatest songs. I so love it.
Anyone else here because of the Netflix show "After Life" Season 2? I hadn't heard this song in years; always brought a tear to my eye. 💖
Ricky Gervais is beyond talented. I cried much during 'After Life'.......and then there is 'Derek'. True creative energy there!
It was wonderfully compatible. :')
Yep. 😊🙁
Yup - guilty as charged! Love this song.
Yes. So beautiful
I've loved Billy Joel for ages. Saw him at a small venue in my hometown Greenwich Village NYC back in the 70s. However, I never heard this song. It touched me for sure.

but it feels so right
This is by far his best! I started hearing it on "Signed, Sealed and Delivered" as the theme song. I looked it up and was actually surprised. It matches well with this Hallmark series.
Great song, my wife watched it on Hallmark too. We love the "Signed Sealed Delivered" series so much we bought the whole box set. We watch an episode each evening
Marti Cabral, that's how I found it, too! One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever heard.
This song describes what happened to me as I waited for my marine to come back after boot camp😒 When I heard it on SSD I was brought to my knees. Thank you hallmark❤️
i loved this song when it was just a song to me, and i still love it now when it describes a memory to me. i almost wish it was from the other perspective, because that’s what my perspective is. there’s a guy who fits this song so well, and i had to move across my country (and neither of us would do well long-distance), and hurt him in a way that i tried my best not to
This song had been used in several of the Hallmark “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” movies. The song is used perfectly.
Very much so.
Yes that's the Hallmark movies I've been watching. Every episode of the Sign Sealed Delivered series leaves me in tears. The stories are deep and endearing. Nice reading your comment....
This song makes me feel the sorrows from the years deep in my bones.
"And you can have this heart to break" is such a powerful sentence, the willingness to offer oneself to the possibility of pain because that is the only way to open up to the possibility of love. I will be singing this with my choir soon.
I have loved Billy Joel since I was a teenager and heard his album. "The Stranger." Yet I had not heard this song until recently with the limited Billy Joel channel on Sirius FM. I had to stop the car to listen to every word and note. It is so very hauntingly true in lyrics and in minor chords. With every love, you risk a broken heart. Are you strong enough to take the risk? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. This has now become my favorite Billy Joel song. I think he is a master musician in all ways.
Absolutely love this song. Especially since my loving husband, Dick, is gone for 17 years now.
One of the most beautiful songs ever composed ❤️
In every heart there is a room

Until a new one comes along....💔😭
I sang this in high school choir last year. Probably one of the best pieces our choir has done while I've been there. It got me interested in Billy Joel's music, and it made me appreciate and admire him a lot more than I did previously.
Check out his first five albums, which I believe to be his best work, although he has some gems in every album.
She left me after depression was taking over and I’d isolate myself “if my silence made you leave” will 10/10 times make my eyes tear up
He stands out above many talents.. He writes hes own music, piano, vocals etc hes a pure talent. Gifted
I never paid much attention to Miguel’s character but after the episode about him and with this song I bawled like a baby and have replayed this song a dozen times his episode was by far the best.
Quite possibly one of the most extraordinary songs ever about love and loss and hope and fear and who and what we all are, hoping our hearts iwll not be broken but knowing they probably will be - but you keep loving anyway. A masterpiece. A musical and poetic literary masterpiece.
The simplicity of this song really is magnificent. That is the gift Billy Joel brings us. Thank you Billy. A true poet.
Only his songs can give Goosebumps

The writing in this song is absolutely beautiful
A song full of truth. At 70 it resonated with with my past. How many times have I made myself vulnerable and how many times has it brought that mutual love… sometimes ….but even now I still seek … still get hurt but still try. Our hearts are always young
This song is so very beautiful, raw, and real....life and love can be so unpredictable and heart wrenching. The death of love is harder than if the one loved was really dead and gone. The tsunami of grief is the very same. And then one must finally shift into the acceptance of "and so it goes."
Thank you for the support you have consistently been showing me. I appreciate the unconditional love I’ve gotten from you, which has inspired me to give more sensational entertainment. I’m forever grateful. Which country are you watching from?
It’s not acceptance, it’s art and much is unresolved in this world
No fancy words. No complicated Rhymes. Every day mundane common vocabulary yet, add a beautifully written melody, and it turns into a poetic Masterpiece. Only a Genius can do that.
How beautiful and Powerful. It transcends understanding.
I first heard this song on the Hallmark Series "Signed, Sealed, Delivered". I was impressed by the song, but did not realise until several years later that it was Billy Joel who sang it. Such a beautiful song, and it is very much unlike any of Billy Joel's other songs. I believe he is one of the most versatile, talented musicians of the 20th and 21st Century. This is also easily one of his Top 3 best songs.
I hand not heard this song in a long time...I heard it this week on my favorite show " This is Us". I called my eyes shut! I love this song, first heard it in Onitsha Nigeria when on my way to the Cathedral to get married. My soon to be husband was driving. He stopped at a store to buy cigarettes, and kept car running. This song came on. I don't know if it was a tape, or radio...way back in 1992.
I listened to the lyrics. I remembered my husband to be did say to me many times, " you gonna leave me".
I never understood why he felt that way! Listening to the lyrics, I thought to my self he must have got the idea from the song. We did get married, but marriage didn't last. Good thing that came from our marriage was our handsome 2 son's. We have 3 beautiful grandchildren from our youngest son.
Everytime I hear this song I cry uncontrollably. I love the song, like I loved my husband back then in Ontisha, Nigeria...." And so it goes"❤️🌴🏝️🌴
So, every time
I only JUST discovered Billy Joel's song-writing prowess right now on a UA-cam journey. I always knew OF him with songs like "Up-town Girl" and "Piano-man". But this and "Just the Way You Are" which I just heard are flawless masterpieces.
This... this right here. This is a hymn of the highest calibre.
Listen to Leningrad.
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
One of the most beautiful, heartbreaking songs ever written. I've always loved this song and then hearing it during my favorite show in such a heartbreaking scene..cue the waterworks 😭
I had never heard this song before but immediately recognized it as a Billy Joel song and his voice. It is beautifully sad and so true.
I heard it on This is Us and looked it up on UA-cam.
Man.. he does so much with his voice and a piano.
Beautiful send-off for Miguel.
When I heard the first chords and the first words, I knew it was Billy Joel, though I had never heard this song before. So beautiful, and a bittersweet tribute to Miguel Rivas. The writers and producers have done a wonderful job with choosing music for this series.
Instantly recognisable. Beautifully crafted and performed.
I love this song. Also heard it on general hospital nurses ball sung by valentine cassidine
Geez I've never even had a breakup and this song makes me sad...
Bro sammee
💐💐💐You were the best man Miguel. The most human, human being.
Pure genius a song all who have been In love can understand. A classic Joel perfection
This song hits so personally. He's leaving the choice to her. Very touching.
This is the best. It puts the tragic of failed love and yet, not giving up on it, into perfect words and gives it a melody that eats into your heart to stay there forever.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, and my all time favourite.
No doubt about it.
“And every time I’ve held a rose it seems I’ve only felt the thorns”… that line always breaks my heart. Joel wrote this after a breakup yet the words obtain to myriad human events. The melody, itself, owes so much to traditional Celtic folk tunes that always have a touch of sadness about them. So, this choice for “ Miguel’s Story” was a touch of genius.
No more. No one will ever break my heart again. Silence is my self defense. This heart is in permanent lock down.
Hello Lori
Me too Lori. God bless you.
This song makes me cry and weep. So beautiful 😭😭😭
I sang this as a lullaby to my children and now my grandchildren.
Jesus, nobody breaks my heart like Billy
This beautiful art right here, taught me to play piano. I was determined to play this song! And I can!!! He is so vulnerable and pure when he sings this.
"My silence is myself defence"
This is Us will be to thank for bringing this song back into our hearts and minds ❤️
Such a beautiful song - so beautifully rendered here. One of the things I treasure about Billy Joel is his love for singing with the audience. He writes songs from the old tradition of the singing audience, and he invites the audience to join in - sometimes overtly and sometimes simply with his presence. And there is nothing quite so beautiful as hearing an audience sing along to a song like this. Melts my heart, especially seeing their faces as they sing.
My very favorite Billy Joel tune.
I just heard a hymn called "In Christ Alone Before the Throne of God I Stand" and it's sounds frighteningly like this song
i like how you hear billy joel music before hymns
I had never noticed before you said that. Yes I can see that
Sounds like Jerusalem
thank you for the comment! I was desperately searching my mind for the hymn I knew sounded exactly like this song
This song has a place in my heart forevermore ❤
When you give your whole heart to someone and it all falls apart.... least you knew you gave it everything you had. Loyalty hard to come by.... some broken hearts never mend.
