this song just brought back my memories, details and those images of the terror in Kosovo . . . it`s crazy how we just choose to forget something that is terrifying, but it has always been there with us, somewhere hidden in our memories.
I have to disagree, the people who will feel this song the most arent the ones who "served" it'll be the ones the song is sung about, the innocent victims of war.
I have been saving this one on my dvr since it came out....very very soft but such powerful words....I can feel the pain of so many when I hear this song....His words say so much.........thank you James Blunt......bravo
This song is about James' time as an officer of the English army during times of the war in Kosovo. The "HE" he's referring to is probably Slobodan Milošević, the leader of the Jugoslavian army who commited genocide during that war. James was a witness of the destruction he left during this war as that soldier/officer. In 2007 he also made a documentary called 'James Blunt: Return to Kosovo' about this when he returned after the war. He even visited some survivors.
when JB sings "HE" he is most definitely referring to "DEATH"; he has said as much.... Chilling lyrics for the average person who lives under the relative security of a country like Britain like myself... My favourite song of his for sure.
@@pharoahegypt Doesn't have to be death specifically. Could be war, human nature, a specific person like Milosevic, politics, etc. All of those things contributed to the Kosovo War and the aftermath. Trying to blame only Milosevic is dishonest. NATO bombers killed plenty of civilians even without Security Council approval.

I understand forgetting about it. I don't understand being able to (or possibly forcing himself to) relive and play this song about it.

No one who hasn't served in conflict can truly understand this song, never forget the fallen

@1cleandude I don't know but since this song is about war, I would say that "he" refers to war. But once again, I don't really know.
