Russel Watson......Love that Voice...He is an amazing singer....Its been a long time that someone with his "talent" has come along to sing this kind of music..Love Russel Watson all the way here in Sarasota, Florida....!! Yes !!
I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS SIDE OF RUSSELL WATSON, BUT I LOVED WHAT HE DID IN THIS SONG. HE IS BRILLIANT IN HIS CRAFT OF SINGING OPERA, CLASSICAL, POP, ETC. HE SINGS WITH SUCH A UNIQUE PRESENCE AND QUALITY THAT IS SECOND TO NONE! I AM A FAN FOR LIFE! WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM IN CONCERT! I WOULD NOT MIND SITTING IN THE FRONT ROW AT THAT! WELL DONE, RUSSELL. YOU HAVE A STYLE THAT IS BREATHTAKING THAT EVOKES SO MUCH EMOTION AND YOU DO THIS EFFORTLESSLY. IT IS THE GIFT OF YOU! BEV, FROM THE USA, VIRGINIA~~MANY BLESSINGS ALWAYS~~
I'm a lifelong fan of this musical, and I think I may like this version best! He pusts more emotion into it than most phantoms who are singing to show off their singing (and frankly don't do as well). I love it!
Wow..Wow!!! I LOVED THIS!! What an absolutely Brilliant and Amazing performance on this... A Favourite Classic song from Phantom of the Opera! Russell just worked the vocals so Brilliantly, intermixing them...it was so great watched 3 times fixated on listening to him 'interchange' Wow...Would he ever make a Fantastic Phantom!!! Oh, how I Loved the dramatics!! So thrilled, seeing this!! Thank you, Karen
Russell has many singing styles. He is also an impressionist and can change his voice from one style to another. He does sound rather like MC except on the higher notes. I d love to see him in Phantom!
Yes, I see where it sounds uneven, but everyone has to remember that, comparitively, he is a very new talent and new singer- cut him some slack. The song is otherwise very very powerful, in the captivating way it should be sung. The manner in which he sings it also makes this song, a very slow song, more captivating.
Beautiful your right on, your music is wonderful great job these things I knew you were so good. Ilu forever an a day. I wanted to be wt you when all came for you. Well when love someone that doesn’t want you it hurts so much there one if come to you for true love soon day. Amen the lord is wt me for rest of my live. Maybe truly love if you go away remember me🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Somebody told me he used to be a club singer, singing popular music, then there was a power cut, so in the dark he started singing opera as a joke, and everybody thought it was amazing. Maybe it was fate.
I have to agree, this is a very old clip- thats why there are inconsistencies in his vocal tone. Im sure hed blow us away if he sang it now. His potential even back then was obvious.
@colino72 What do you mean by crossover music? Isn't the reason some music is more popular, because it's better? I don't listen to much foreign language music such as Italian because I can't understand it but I like Andrea Bocelli and I enjoyed Amore e musica when Russell Watson sang it. I don't see why music has to fit into a category as if somebody wants to sing it, they should. Freddie Mercury helped to make opera popular with younger listeners when he helped make Barcelona.
The first part sounds do much like Michael Crawford, then he does his classical tenor style. Perhaps this was in tribute to the original Phantom? Not as good as Crawford, but better than Butler. I really like to hear this song (and many others by Lloyd Weber) sung by trained tenors or baritones.
@ifuliki Yes but if you have been to a rubbish rough school like I did, that was run by hippies, all they do is to try to make the kids like ethnic music where all the immigrants come from and playing the bongos is about as far as they bother to teach. If somebody who looks more like a pop star sings classical music, it helps to make those not familiar with it take notice.
Why oh why did Andrew Lloyd Weber not have this man play the phantom in his movie. He would have done the roll the justice it deserved. This man is NOT DULL< DULL< DULL!
@SuzLa1 Good, but have you actually gone on to listen to any actual classical music (not just crossover) by actual opera singers? By that, I mean singers who sing in opera houses. Look up Juan Diego Florez, and of course anything by Pavarotti, for a start.
@SuzLa1 Of course I don't mean all of the most popular music is better as a lot from the USA is based on expensive advertising and hype for gullible teenagers to fall for, but I class whether music is good based on if it's still popular after a few years
@iamric22 I have never claimed to have done so, and it is completely spurious and intellectually barren to claim that no-one can comment on something that they don't do themselves. As for performance, yes absolutely I have - as a keen amateur, and it is my main hobby. Does Watson have a good instrument? Yes. Is he an opera singer - no, because he has never sung in an opera. Good luck to him, though, and on the plus side, after listening to him I moved on to others, so I thank him for that.
He has a marvelous voice; however, I personally do not like the way he continually flips around with voice changes. Otherwise, it would be wonderful performance as usual.
That's not Russell's fault though, that's the way "The music of the night" is written. Russell sings this pretty much flawless as always (except the falsetto note).
Russell Watson is my favorite singer to date. I love his songs and his voice. Yet this is, in my opinion, a less than beautiful rendering of this song. The way he switches vocal styles is not pleasing (Va Pensiero is excellent in this regard). I do much prefer Michael Crawford's "Music of the Night."
Funny - he changes his voice funny funny. Completely split personality. haha. He´s voice is great end fine. But all the changes in voice is pretty "not good"
He keeps going in and out of styles/tones. Just doesn't seem to suit him. Some songs don't. Just don't enjoy this at all. Feels contrived. Ramin Karimloo is magic singing this. But they each do different things beautifully.
He is marvelous in many ways! Aren't we fortunate to still have him.
Thanks Russell, beautiful
Excellent! Probably the best rendition of this song that I've heard. Love it!
excellent Voice Russell Watson Oh !!! my LordGod, Music Of The Night !!!!!!!
The Only One.
I love it how he can sing opera, pop and rock and do it all with perfection. What a voice!
Russel Watson......Love that Voice...He is an amazing singer....Its been a long time that someone with his "talent" has come along to sing this kind of music..Love Russel Watson all the way here in Sarasota, Florida....!! Yes !!
Fantastic performance by a phenomenal talent

I loved Michael Crawford for the emotion he brought to the performance and this is just as heartfelt. Makes me go all shivery :)

ZOMG! He is so amazing! I love him! And he went up in my opinion for doing this song! They should have him play The Phantom sometime!
I'm a lifelong fan of this musical, and I think I may like this version best! He pusts more emotion into it than most phantoms who are singing to show off their singing (and frankly don't do as well). I love it!
Hell, no complaints from me. He was WONDERFUL!!!

His hot sexy and great voice! bravo!! bravo!Russell watson
Has Russell ever played the Phantom? What a talent.
The same perfomance that Sarah Brightman on a male voice!
我最崇拜的男人 我愛死他了 希望他早日康復 I LOVE Russell Watson
You are so beautiful you music and voice was growth ilu
Somebody told me he used to be a club singer, singing popular music, then there was a power cut, so in the dark he started singing opera as a joke, and everybody thought it was amazing. Maybe it was fate.
Very uneven...this is a romantic song and it just falls flat
LIke listening to three different singers. Dull, Dull, DULL!!!
definitly
He HAS to do Phantom
I have to agree, this is a very old clip- thats why there are inconsistencies in his vocal tone. Im sure hed blow us away if he sang it now. His potential even back then was obvious.

you can see he I'd trying to emulate Michael Crawford and I think did pretty good not quite as good as mc but very good
He first made me interested in classical music. Before him I thought it was just for posh snobs.
I like his opera voice, but not his other voices.
@SuzLa1 Good, but have you actually gone on to listen to any actual classical music (not just crossover) by actual opera singers? By that, I mean singers who sing in opera houses.
Look up Juan Diego Florez, and of course anything by Pavarotti, for a start.
This is nice. I must say I prefer Donald Braswell's version of this song!
If he had used his own interpretation it would have been enjoyable.
@SuzLa1 Of course I don't mean all of the most popular music is better as a lot from the USA is based on expensive advertising and hype for gullible teenagers to fall for, but I class whether music is good based on if it's still popular after a few years

@keancole Yeah, he is playing with it all over the place. Which is the real voice?? I never can tell with this guy - all a bit faux..
the switching between vocal styles is a little weird...i wish he would just choose one and stick with it. otherwise its awesome
But all the changes in voice is pretty "not good"
Not my favorite performance of this song, by far . . .
He's flipping between his own voice and ripping off Michael Crawford, not a good way to go about it really...
He could be so much better if he just got some good lessons.
He keeps going in and out of styles/tones. Just doesn't seem to suit him. Some songs don't. Just don't enjoy this at all. Feels contrived. Ramin Karimloo is magic singing this. But they each do different things beautifully.
