I see what you are saying, but at that point why not have those structures and mobs in the overworld? The real addon that could help is replacing the final boss
@@TopothetopYT There is actually a mod/addon that allows you to change the final boss in the config files. You can even have modded bosses. I am probably going to use the Void Worm from Alex's Mobs. Mainly because I think that just makes sense. I believe it's called Twilight Tweaker by jodlodi. It also gives Twilight Forest compatibility with Craft Tweaker. Although, Craft Tweaker is not required.
The issue with mods, not just the twilight forest, is the difficulty of staying updated with the constant additions from MoJang. It all boils down to 1.12.2 as the last simpler version before the aquatic update, which broke many mods. The villager update further caused more issues. Then we had 1.15 and 1.16 with major changes to the nether and dimensions, and 1.17 was a small buffer but still broke a few things. 1.18 was the toughest to port due to its aggressive nature. MoJang is now focused on adding new content every update, leaving modders and modpacks in the background. Optifine, for instance, struggles to keep up with demand, often releasing "full versions" with unresolved bugs due to time constraints. Modders prefer to prioritize porting versions and ensuring compatibility over adding new content that may break soon after release. Additionally, modders donate their time as there is little economic incentive for developing mods. Their livelihoods are affected as they juggle jobs and families. Unless Minecraft returns to simpler updates, modding will remain a challenging endeavor.
But this is the case with all actively updated games though, modders just have to go through that if they wanna mod a game that's actively updated...sadly
I think the biggest problem is modpack developers including it in a way that makes people feel unsatisfied. I was active in the Twilight Forest discord a few years ago, and it seemed like porting was a whole lot of work for these devs, considering for a lot of them, Twilight Forest isn't even their main or only projects. There also has been content added since 1.12.2, for example there are some new small structures and small items. I think if modpack developers disabled Twilight Forest's gated progression and let the players tackle the dungeons and mobs in any order they wanted, that would help lessen the negative impact of the empty final castle, as instead of an empty ending, it would just be an empty area in a full dimension.
It's worth mentioning that Twilight Forest's progression is an issue because the mod was built around it at a core level - average modpack creator can add recipes and whatnot but they can't change integral parts of it! Edit, I'm stupid
I’m so tired of there not being a final boss so I’m going to pull a thanos and *”Fine, I’ll do it myself”* (I’ve just currently started working on it so it’s gonna take a bit)
I have imagined the final "boss" being literally all twilight forest bosses mounted in top of each other, summoning random hostile mobs from the dimension.
Sometimes I install a modpack just to see that I HAVE to go through Twilight forest to unlock content... Then I uninstall. It's not the progression. That's fine. I hate how it is unfinished. The apex of the mod, the part that should be the most exciting just isn't there! That broke the mod for me long ago and ever since I refuse to go through that all over again! Why hasn't anyone ever fixed it with some add-on mod that finishes the mod?? That's so frustrating!
I think the devs from this mod were just satisfied with it and did not want to develop it further. Also meed to remind that modding is more of a labour of love, as normally there is no remuneration involved.

One big issue with the Twilight Forest, too, is that you are MEANT to start it early and then play it through to the end, which is a massive amount of time that you're not using to play other mods*.
If anything, the mod has actually regressed in it's progress. In the 1.12.2 version 7 YEARS ago, the final castle was filled with Adherents, Kobalds, and Giants in the central room. There was also a beefed up Kobald with 1000 hit points at the top if you got that far. But now, in 1.20.1, the castle is a dead zone. The game doesn't even spawn normal vanilla mobs in dark areas, the dungeon is literally completely empty. It's gotten to the point that at the start of a playthrough, I go to the castle in creative and use Custom NPCs to add enemies and bosses myself.

Aether made more strides overtime than Twilight forest, but I'll admit that some of the things said in the video I do regret saying, as both are great free mods.
The modder cares about a polished product. If they added the final boss before finishing the rest of the mod, people would beat it, be finished, never look back. That'll be it for the Twilight Forest. Everyone's done, no one would care about additional polish added afterwards. The very fact people are demanding a free project to be completed for their satisfaction, or to just boycott it altogether is a good indicator of how much they actually "care" about the mod, modders, and game they're even playing. The reason I stopped playing Twilight Forest was because it was broken in multiplayer at the time. Server crashed if there was any player not in the Twilight Forest at the time. Never even made it to the first boss, didn't even know there were bosses until I saw youtubers playing it. So I'm in favor of polishing what they have before adding more, because polish is clearly what it needs.
Uh, twilight forest has been a lightweight dimension mod for servers for years, I've played it with people in 1.7.10, 1.12.2, and 1.20.1, and in heavy modpacks as well.
Fact is adding in a final boss or even someone building add on boss for it a massive undertaking with all new things each update adds and breaks for modders . But if all you people who feel so underwhelmed by it think it needs ending go learn mod yourself then complain about it.
Lowkey tried that, though for version 1.12.2. I can easily do it for modern modded versions, but my code would be relatively basic lol. I wanted a 1.12.2 version because it would be easier to implement given the twilight tweaks mod, but because of how outdated it is, it's a bit harder to mod for that version when you don't usually mod
@@TopothetopYT I could do easy on any version. but do fact I'm more focused on mods for other games. I don't see my self doing it unless people want pay me to do it. In fact there great idea you players that want this finished pay the mod creator's to do it. I bet it gets done then.
Not all problems are a "throw money at it" as you suggest, because twilight forest developers are already dedicated to this path. Curseforge even pays developers, and with a mod that is downloaded over 100,000,000 times and then some, there's a bit of money going around, especially with their promo codes for servers and other additional ways to gain money. If they really were in it for the money, gofundmes or patrons would be made available and promoted heavily
@@TopothetopYT True but this mod been out long time with no fix insight that only reason suggested money route. true they could start patron but to me in most cases Patron a scam for most projects even some youtubers & twitchers. cause benefits people get are lackluster people just keep paying with little to no benefit to them. GoFundMe's always better option.
I understand the gripes but as someone who makes their own custom modpacks with random mods I like. We should really really be more grateful because of how many mods get left in the dust or don’t have anywhere as many mechanics or compatibilities with other mods. Many newer dimension mods get so much attention and I feel if they were released in this prime time of 1.12.2 they wouldn’t have seen the light of day so more than anything I think this sheds light on the fact that 1.13 taking so long to update allowed many mods to flourish back in 1.12.2
There’s entire mods stuck in older versions as well with groups who wish they could port it but it is too much labor without compensation to port entire mods to newer versions
@TopothetopYT completely understandable which given no one has picked it up to update it to current versions(which is shocking with how popular I assume it was back in the day) I have a feeling it might be a darker ending to the story otherwise I feel like someone would have picked it up(tempted to learn how to make mods just so I can attempt myself tbh)

GoFundMe's always better option.
here at the 29 minute mark
9 hour mark for me
I understand the gripes but as someone who makes their own custom modpacks with random mods I like.
The fact it's one of the two older gold dimension mods to be ported, quite a feat.
I don't see anyone talk about Atum 2, or Etebus
Bro was thirsting to hit the 8 minutes
going over twilight forest in 8 minutes for such a historic mod is a sin on its own, could've been 15 minutes
@@TopothetopYT that’s true, I just felt like there was a lot of repeated sentences in the video
i know im super late but i think that reverting the textures to the 1.12 textures made me only play 1.16.5 twilight forest
@@TopothetopYT yeah they have the 1.12 textures, they made the mazebreaker so ugly 🙁
you mean they made 1.16.5 better, because they didn't make it ugly, they just reverted it back to what it was lol
@@TopothetopYT Yeah, but what it was was ugly
Btw I just checked, they turned it into a resource pack legacy.curseforge.com/minecraft/texture-packs/twilight-forest-jappa-pack
Betweenlands is Twilight forest done right. Far creepier too…
Good video, but how did you get this mod? Is there a tutorial?
Several in fact, the simple part of it is that you can find this mod on curseforge and look up how to use mods
@@TopothetopYT Thank you for replying so quickly! I appreciate it :)
@@TopothetopYT is there a specific tutorial you used on how to get it? Whenever i try to play with the specific mod the game crashes and doesn’t work
Did you use the correct version of forge for that?
@@TopothetopYT im not sure if I did, do you mean the right version of Minecraft for the mod?
tbh the reason I deleted Twilight Forest was because of how ugly the wood (mostly planks) sets were
So you couldn’t just not craft the planks in the overworld or something?
Now that I read it, that's such a weird take on the mod.....especially when there's a texture pack available for twilight as well
@@TopothetopYT yeah lol
Can we get this treatment for thaumcraft??????
maybe I'll do a video on thaumcraft, but that requires some more research as to what happened
@@TwiggyMC The Thermal Expansion team actually picked it up, but no ETA on its updated release yet.
@@chogan2376 omg omg omg this is the biggest news I've heard all year
I love this mod for building my main base honestly
this is a big kids nothingburger, i still play my 1.7.10 modpack just to get to use Thaumcraft 4.
@kimandre5842 see that's different, the vibes from playing an old modpack is immaculate
I mean all mods are essentially made by unpaid volunteers, why would people feel entitled to updates?
Curseforge does pay their modders based on downloads. I should know because I'm close to cashing out on there and I made a modpack
also if someone writes a book without an ending its a shit book. just because its free doesn't mean its good
