  • Here’s a little known way to stay cool while it’s hot outside with help from five element theory
    Summer is fire element season, fire element in excess can increase your feelings of heat in your body.
    Things like redness in your face, excess sweating, excess thirst.
    All the elements work together and wood feeds fire.
    If you want less fire, put less wood on the fire.
    In five element terms this can mean many things, but I’m going to suggest easing off of your intentions and aspirations in summer.
    Just let there be more white space in your calendar and buffer space in your life instead of always planning and fulfilling those plans.

    Dr. Melissa, hey, this is so strange but, I have been trying for years and years to improve my vinyasas and now in the high heat of summer, I am doing these with the ease that I have been hoping for and it seems to not make sense, but this feels like the opposite of staying cool in the summer- just got out of the tub from an hour long Epsom salt bath, feeling pretty good and refreshed. Does this make sense to you? I’m grateful to have finally got to where I am, but I’m trusting the process of doing it my way- had to mention that. Stay blessed ❤️🙏

    Dr. Melissa, me again, I have to say that reading my comment- it’s hard for me to even understand what I was saying here, and I wrote it- sorry, I don’t always word things right.
    But I want to say that, in the heat of the summer season, being relatively cool in a 90 degree room and repeating vinyasas like never before with such ease feels downright amazing- magical even!
    I was sweating which I have not been doing much of for some strange reason as of lately, but even today it was probably from the excessive humidity, and the bath was cold water which is good for someone who doesn’t use much air conditioning.
    So compared to your post, I am just wondering about your thoughts on this as I seem to think about adding wood to the fire during my recent practice sessions.

      I actually understand what you are saying water element is about winter season, cool, storing and conserving energy and so I feel you bringing that energy to your vinyasa like wu wei, effortless effort. Makes sense to me 🙂
