You used to be able to get gizmos that would plug into the cassette slot of a car radio and which would allow you to plug any sound source in there--I used one to plug a portable CD player into my car back in the 90s. Would be kind of appropriate for you to try and track one down given the nature of the channel. :)
Thumbs up for Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite. I remember back in the 90s sitting doing mix tapes although I never used Radio 1 but Virgin as my tastes were more in the 80s. New Year was the best time when they played back to back songs.
You can get an ok cassette player/recorder with RCA input/output for as low as 10E on second hand deals in the thrift store. I got a pioneer double deck for that price and it plays and record beautifully with dolbi B. i don't see the problem in buying a pair of RCA to stereo cable and using it to record from any sound source you have available. Frankly i think this video is just a method to cash in on techmoans video about the same product....because if you want to make a mixtape today, with a ok quality....there are more ok options on the market
Funny video! The Memorex dBS were one of the quintessential boombox tapes along with the TDK D and Maxell UR. I was a radio DJ in the 80's-90's and bought quite a few of them for recording my shows because Memorex had those "buy two tapes - get one FREE!" deals. BTW I would have marked something on the label. How many cassette collectors have a tape case or shoebox full of unmarked cassettes and wonder "what the hell did I record on these back then?"
Another fantastic video! I was watching this this video while I was hooking up my old ColecoVision. My friend and I are going to have a serious game of "Cosmic Avenger" lol
If I had to make a mixtape these days I'd make at least 4 of them, one full of PC engine music, another full of PC-98 and X68000 music, one full of Eurobeat and one with my favourite Vocaloid/UTAU music, but each one of those things would need at least 6 tapes to fit all of my favourites tunes...
I still have the mixtapes I made while I was on high school, recording them from my local radio stations. So many memories. I used to record on tape the PS1 Cds that had red book audio (could play their music on CD players). Like Ridge Racer, Dead or Alive, Einhander, among others.
You said that your car's cassete deck doens't have noise reduction, but it it shows "Dolby B NR" right there. What you do not have have is a recorder that support it.
He should just get one of those old mini din to tape converter. He can plug that right into his smart phone, and be jamming Pandora in no time in that "yellow banana boat"! :)
Have you looked for one of those tapes with a cable and 3.5mm jack hanging off the end? My first car (a purple 95 Ford Escort) had a tape deck and I picked one up from Halfords for under a tenner. Drove around for 18 months with a shitty 128mb unbranded MP3 player from eBuyer.
Sh*tty is exactly what cassette adapters often can be! Better to actually use the tape deck as intended, to play actual cassette tapes you record at home…
Good job, Recording cassettes of the radio was my 24/7 addiction back in the 90's. In this day and age, I get the old cassette sound using a foobar2000 plugin called convolver and the appropriate impulse response of the cassette tape of my choice. A cassette sound emulator ;-)
I've been searching on and off for years for those Mario and Tetris songs not remembering the titles, but now I've finally found them after googling Now 23.
When you put your first sega mixtape in and pressed play I figured there was probably 100% chance a Sonic song was going to come on... but then again you may have planned it that way :P
What have you done? Too much 90's in one place, I'm going to explode from nostalgia and cringe. XD Seriously though, I was a bit too young to do the whole mixtape thing myself, but this was a serious *trip* to see. The commercial music, the console tunes, the clunky hands-on hardware and media... oooooh, it sends me into a happy, fuzzy place... Also, Deus Ex Machina! I've NEVER seen that game anywhere other than in the big cardboard box of games my dad owned (that later passed to me). Didn't manage to get the game itself to play, but I've listened to the atmospheric companion tape dozens of times. I'm going to go and lie down now, maybe then go play something recent to bring me back to the present decade before I start looking for those old roller blades and compulsively saying "awesome!" at everything.
my first car was a white 1992 honda accord station wagon. after I wore out my limited selection of cassettes I found an adapter that you could hook up to a phone. Im sure they still make them.
Suggestion: download perfect tape image of Driller from WoS; convert to WAV; record to original tape via the mighty Maxtek. The tape will forgive you, and so will Incentive Software.
Have you checked in the boot on the left hand side of your new car for a CD changer? We have the coupe version of the megane and were completely oblivious to the rather handy CD changer hidden in the boot! Didn't notice for over a year, just made do with cassettes and those cheap tape adapters! Duh!
I bought NOW 23 on CD only yesterday! What a coincidence. Already have it on vinyl, but later NOW albums in that format are very hard to come by. Also, I certainly recall using that multi coloured neon Memorex tape in the late 80s.
Wow. I thought the deck I made mix tapes on was bad... For those in the UK: Wilko's are the last high street shop to sell blank cassettes for a reasonable price. If you all go buy some they'll hopefully continue. I need my supply of tapes people.
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Question, if I just connect my phone and play a Spotify playlist, and hit record on the tape, will the audio be crystal clear on the tape once done or is it just recording with a microphone? Could I just get any boombox with Bluetooth and record that way? Thanks so much!
But can dolby noise reduction even reduce noise from recorded tapes? I suppose the only way to reduce noise is to decrease the high frequency's and increase the low frequency's using a equalizer, but it will make music sound flat, as if it was recorded behind closed dours 2 rooms away from the microphone, haha. Nice demonstration trough and what a great action from sega, nintendo should do the same thing, but as of now, sega is more open.
Do they still make those things which allow you to plug a 3.5mm jack in to a cassette player? Or maybe you could try and mod your car stereo to have a line in?
Before you buy anything i thought i needed the boom box but you don't all you need is an aux to aux cord and you plug into a tape recorder and then plug the other end into the music you want to record. example , one aux into pc the other end into the tape recorder , press record and play at the same time let the white space clear (about 12 seconds) click play on pc and it will record untill 45 mins are up some tapes are different but most of record 45 mins on each side 90 min total time, if your still confused use this video: ua-cam.com/video/U9e1crZi_Vg/v-deo.html
Too bad you didn`t show the track list. There were some old tunes in this video which I long forgot, and I don`t recall the names of the bands or songs.
Jestem Genek Yes, because if you look back at where he's demonstrating the SD card feature, you can see that he takes the tracks from a folder called "Now 23", and even describes it as such. If you mean you want his exact mixtape (as he probably wouldn't have recorded all 40-odd tracks onto one cassette), you're out of luck. But you can easily see what tracks are on Now 23 on Wikipedia, and from there discover some of the tracks played in the video.
If you sniggered at "hefty knobs", like this comment. If you didn't, congratulations you are far more mature than I.
"Sleek, black units" is what did it for me.

Matt Luckett to be fair, this video is filled with childish euphemism.
i think this would be good for your car:

I'm american so I didn't get it...and I still don't
The best thing about being into some obscure music genres is that they release so much on cassette.
Thumbs up for Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite. I remember back in the 90s sitting doing mix tapes although I never used Radio 1 but Virgin as my tastes were more in the 80s. New Year was the best time when they played back to back songs.
I grew up with tapes and think it's awesome to see you embrace the old warm tech
8:28 Wow! amazing 90s effects!
You made it sunny in England!
Always look forward to your videos.
Brilliant video, love the retro colour tape

This video brings back very pleasant memories from a time when things were simpler but a lot more fun!
Another fantastic video! I was watching this this video while I was hooking up my old ColecoVision. My friend and I are going to have a serious game of "Cosmic Avenger" lol

I'm so tempted to get one of these so cool! I need to make a mixtape again! Awesome video
Just bought a Yamaha cassette deck, works very well, and reminds me from my early childhood!
Also a fan of Techmoan!
Love your channel & had that exact same yellow car lol
We have Aldi in the US as well. I once got a portable TV for my birthday from there
I still have the mixtapes I made while I was on high school, recording them from my local radio stations.

On Cassette players in cars. You can turn Dolby on and off manually.
My 2006 mustang you can.
Tried checking my Facebook, realized no Facebook tab was open, wtf-moment ensued.

Ahmed Jan where we're going, we don't need speed.
@@Nostalgianerd now that's clever right there!
ABBA and Roxette! I loved your video.

I had forgotten about Ring Raiders! Great theme tune
Good job,

I had that model of Renault Megane until half a year ago. :)
Though it had a CD player and not a tape player
Nice selection of tunes of Now 23! I'm going to have to have a look out for it next time I'm charity shopping.
I've been searching on and off for years for those Mario and Tetris songs not remembering the titles, but now I've finally found them after googling Now 23.
dat overwatch Victory theme and those SFX at the end. Love it
mixtapes take so much time. jez have ur fanbase send 'em in
nice pcb mat on your desk/tabel :D
nice video as allways. looking for next bytesize too :)
Hey Nerd, sweet whip. Technical Q what microphone setup do you use I'm looking to upgrade my setup.
Oh wow my mum used to have that exact same car back in the 90's.
When you put your first sega mixtape in and pressed play I figured there was probably 100% chance a Sonic song was going to come on... but then again you may have planned it that way :P

Sure you can convert roms to .wav?
@@GrinningDarn Yes, if by 'rom' you mean Spectrum games, rather than the system ROMs.
BTW your car's tape deck does have Dolby B. Pause it at 0:34 and look at the tape door.
That road at the end, was it nr Salhouse??? :)
O no! Techmoan is gonna go full passive aggressive puppet on you now. HAHA
Aldi exists in the US as well.
I want one of those.

this video contains the best use of the mexican hat dance song in history.
There's nothing quite like opening a brand new blank tape!
Best thing to do to every Spectrum game! ;-)
Holy crap, that Mario Land Single! I had that as a kid - no idea where it went though! Still killer... need to track it down :)
I bought NOW 23 on CD only yesterday! What a coincidence. Already have it on vinyl, but later NOW albums in that format are very hard to come by. Also, I certainly recall using that multi coloured neon Memorex tape in the late 80s.
Also, wasn't that Jon Pertwee narrating that tape?
"That's perhaps a little narcissistic"
*wears t-shirt with picture of himself*
Good one :-D
there are so many bargain cars in the uk.. nice. reminds me of lotus elan a bit
hey! same car radio here in my Renault :D
What is the name of the song with the clip after the clip from sleeping satellite? I have heard it before but I can't think what it is called
couldnt you rerecord driller back on to the tape or is it not the same thing?
Are there other machines like this?
aldi is in usa too
i thought i was the only one with the ambassadors of funk on his mp3 player lol
That Memorex tape was an 80s (not 90s) tape in the USA. I had them in 1986 I think.
Wow. I thought the deck I made mix tapes on was bad... For those in the UK: Wilko's are the last high street shop to sell blank cassettes for a reasonable price. If you all go buy some they'll hopefully continue. I need my supply of tapes people.
Your radio cassette seems to have the double D symbol above button 1.
I've been recording onto tape lately for no reason other then nostalgia . technics deck with DBX sounds almost CD quality :)
Even my ma, she thinks I'm crazy. But I've got to rescue Daisy
Wow! I haven't seen a Megane Cabriolet for a while.
There are also adapters for cassete to 3.5mm

WTF you need at least half a dozen good vintage cassette decks lying around like me!
nice use of not quite bttf theme
Does It Work With A 1985 Walkman
The mario theme 👍🏻👍🏻
would you say you learnt about the joys of tracks?
Do they still make those things which allow you to plug a 3.5mm jack in to a cassette player? Or maybe you could try and mod your car stereo to have a line in?
Just drill a 2.5mm hole in the front of it... and push some wire in there. Sorted.
HOW HAVE I OVERLOOKED THIS VIDEO ? ;3;
Is it my imagination or does this unit only playback in mono, either from the memory card or the cassette deck?
Do you still have the Megane ?
check out muh mixtape
sagiksp fux u, mah mixtape is fire!

Renault Megane, i like this car
Sophie B Hawkins fan?
that tape may be rad, but is it tubular?
The quality is way below of that of my Fisher Price recorder I had as a kid...
Your steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car, Sir.
Is that SMG4's Super Mario Land Remix? How to get it from another SML remix?
It's supermarioland by Ambassadors of Funk - It was released as a single in 1992
Your voice sounds like a British LGR.
