While you are watching this, think of the fact that people were able to preserve such film treasure in the first place, which cannot be 100℅ guaranteed, since many films from 1910's and obviously older are in such a bad state today (or are simply lost), that nobody is able to preserve the memory.
Everybody, who watch this, owns a big thanks to all the hardworking people, that saved the footage, which gave you the chance to see and important figure in real life.
Not everyone will get the same attention...

Lest we forget, it was Great Britian who started World War I in the first place!
They wanted to rule the entire world; every square inch of it, and they were deathly afraid of Germany's growing industrial might, (which incidentally was no threat to them) and not content with that, they also wanted to seize the few sparse colonies that Germany still possessed in remote and obscure parts of the world.
More importantly, they also knew that if they ever found themselves at a decided disadvantage during the fracas, that they could always rely upon the Americans who were duped into serving them, to assist them in their unholy endeavors at the cost of their own blood, toil and sweat, to pay their bills and otherwise make them come out on top, along with France, haughtily and delightfully carving up Europe to suit their own advantage at the end of the war, thereby setting the stage for the more horrible and devastating war to follow!

Kaiser Franz Joseph I think is often perceived as formal and distant, with a personality as stiff as a ramrod, but the portrait right at the end seems to me to be one of the rare ones making him look more human. Well done that photographer or artist!

This was the golden age of Europe, the Belle Epoque, when more people immigrated to Budapest then to New York, and part of Berlin's sight-seeing was, to spot Kaiser Wilhelm driving his car in the streets and honking in the traffic. According to the Badeker, "one could recognize his Majestaet's motorcar by the triple-trill of the horn."

While His Majesty Emperor Franz Joseph was a very old fashioned man he liked some modern things like filming and he even permitted his voice to be recorded in 1903. In a biography I read that one day when he was being filmed on some occasion a court administrative tried to shoo the cameraman away because the camera was so noisy. The old emperor aproached him, putting his arm on the court administrative. And he told him, in his homely Schönbrunn German, that the cameraman was just doing his job and that it was important to preserve the event on film for the future.

Obviously the Emperor is visiting a town (probably arrived by train) and interacting with crowds / students from a girls and then a boys school. Can anyone figure out the location around 4:18 minutes in? It's a town square with what looks like a fairly large Marian or Plague column. Large church building on one end of the square. It's got to be in the Northern half of the Austrian Empire because the architecture is Baroque and I see some Catholic dignitaries. Amazing lack of personal security surrounding the Emperor. Seems to have an young aide and then the other members of the imperial party are all over 60.

The past is truly another country, with this being filmed only eight years before the whole place disintegrated! A pity Austria-Hungary didn't survive in some form however, perhaps as a close federation. If they'd persuaded Romania also to come on board there'd have been a solid block against Russian and possibly German expansionism and meddling in smaller countries stretching from the Tatras to the Black Sea. I can understand the longing for independence - yet as the 1930's showed the smaller countries were very vulnerable.

Sadly his bad decishion to jump into the 1'st WW. was a very black spot on his reighn.

Then, he treated his nephew and his wife (Franz Ferdinand and Sophie) like dirt and was happy when they were murdered. Oh yeah, "what a man." Good grief.
