(90 in north, 10 in south) 0s go coast to coast. Even prefix number to interstate ( i.e.470) goes around cities Odd prefix number (i.e.581) spurs into cities becoming surface street. Got it...?? 😏😎
Hey Nolan, you forgot to mention that the reason why interstates have long turns in them instead of just being long straights to a certain town or place.. Its to keep people awake and not fall asleep behind the wheel.. And why theres a minimum of a 2 mile straight every 10 miles.. So planes can use the highway in case of an emergency and they need to land..
In Switzerland, it is common knowledge there are portions of its highway system designed for dual-use motor vehicle traffic/military plane runway. There are even hangars built into mountain sides by the highways for such military use. In a small country, one must make use of what one has available.
Edi Pires There was another video on this. Autobahns were more expensive, the US Method was modeled after this but it was cheaper to have more straight than all the curves. The Germans also had thicker pavement whereas ours is much thinner.
Odd Number freeways run North to South with lower odd in the West (i.e. I-5) and higher Odd in the East(i.e. I-95) Even Number Freeways run East to West with lower even numbers in the South (i.e. I-10) and higher even numbered in the North (i.e. I-90). Auxiliary highways that are triple digit numbered and usually have the primary number in it. example in SoCal. I-5: I-105, I-405, I-605, I-805 I-10: I-110, I-210, I-710. Even numbered Auxiliary highways go around the city while Odd numbered goes through a city.
“_Even numbered Auxiliary highways go around a city while Odd numbered [go] through a city_” To clarify, the ‘even’ and ‘odd’ digits referenced are the first digit of the three-digit Auxiliary highway. An Interstate numbered 350 (hypothetical, nonexistent) would be classified as an _odd_ numbered auxiliary highway, despite its nature as an even number in all other uses. It’s mostly correct that the even digit Auxiliary highway is routed around the city but I’m pretty sure in some cities the mainline Interstate is a bypass around the city and an even-numbered Auxiliary Interstate serves the city center. It is mentioned above that odd-numbered Interstates run through a city. This is mostly correct. It should be noted, however, that Auxiliary Interstates with an odd first digit usually only intersect the parent route or any other Auxiliary routes of the parent route once. For odd-numbered routes that run through a city, it’s usually a spur that ends in the city at local streets or at another highway. Examples of these include both Interstate 395s in Baltimore and the District of Columbia (separate highways). Odd numbered highways occasionally don’t run through a city but instead connect one mainline interstate to another. An example of this is Interstate 380 in Pennsylvania, which begins at Interstate 80 and ends at Interstate 84 east of Scranton. Auxiliary highways can also never intersect the parent route but instead intersect another auxiliary of the parent route, in which case the same rules apply. In New York, for example, there’s Interstates 278, 478 and 678, which, while none are technically connected to I-78, all are numbered due to their connections with each other.
6:42 its funny that you should mention that. The city where I grew up had its main highway built back in the 50s and 60s, I-40 came through when I was a baby, and my dad once told me that the highway was halted because of farms holding construction workers at gun point because they were building through their farmland.

I think it is also important to note some of the horrible things brought about by the interstates. Entire thriving neighbourhoods and communities of mainly poor and minority people were razed to make way for highways. This happened in Detroit and Boston, among other cities. It also brought about suburbanisation and car dependence which have wrecked havoc on the country and the environment.
I remember when I was younger, my Uncle telling me about how when he was my age, he remembered seeing the end of the current interstate construction in california, and I was just so awestruck as a kid, because it just boggled my mind that it was that new
There are the following proposed and concept future interstates and they are: I-6 will connect from Laredo Texas to Corpus Christi Texas. Primary Interstate highways have one or two digits. Odd numbered highways run north-south, while even numbered highways run east-west. Highways with numbers divisible by five are major highways which run most of the length across the country. Numbering of odd numbered highways increases from west to east, while numbering of even numbered highways increases from south to north. This is opposite to the system used by the older US Highways to prevent two highways with the same numbers from running through the same states. For the same reason, there is no I-50 or I-60. Auxiliary Interstate highways have three digits and serve areas which the primary highways run near but do not serve directly. The last two digits are the same as those of the parent highway, while the first denotes the type of auxiliary highway it is. Odd first digits are used for spurs, while even first digits are used for beltways and bypasses. The one exception to this numbering scheme is I-238 in California, officially an auxiliary of I-80 (all other x80 highway numbers were already taken).

This could have been a fun tidbit to add: "Thomas Jefferson directed his Postmaster General, Gideon Granger, to vastly expand the U.S. road system under the guise of building the post roads. His real motive was to make it easier for federal agents (postal appointees) to monitor the travels of his Vice President and arch-rival, Aaron Burr, as he made his way around the country seeking allies in a bid for independent power." - "Trains, Planes, and Automobiles: Reinventing Transportation Law" by Richard L. He hadn’t driven a car in years, eaten casually in a restaurant in more than a decade, learned to dial a telephone, shopped in a grocery store, written his own checks, or managed his own money." - G.M. Odds go North/South, Evens go East/West. All Interstates are numbered between 1-99 expect for those who deviate from their parent highway (I-405 is a deviation and reconnects with I-5) in most cases, those three digit highways don’t actually cross a state line
I love you guys Videos, nice lil Team drop at 6 mins. Bet it would've been louder if ya hadn't played the Ravens last night! ;-) Aww Im just bustin chops! On with the content!
We need more interstates connecting more cities and to make them wider to alleviate traffic and spread the wear and tear out on highways. Efficient travel that takes the shortest route at an optimal speed for gas mileage is better for the environment and would help with electric vehicle adaption by allowing them to achieve their max range. More big cities need ring interstates to shorten travel times in cities and keep cars off side streets and local roads for traffic and maintenance. We definitely need higher speed limits on roads, 75-100mph depending on the area and terrain.
I am old enough to realize that the Interstates have made long distance driving at night easy. As long as you stick to the super slabs, you can get gas and food and more all night long. The interstates have, in a way, made the USA into a 42,000 mile long city that never sleeps.
North and South interdtates are odd numbers while interstates running East and west are even numbers. Three digit interstate identifiers mean they go in or around a bigger city, or at least a city that has funded it, if the interstate prefix is odd it goes into the city (394, 594, etc.) Interstates with a even prefix go around a city (494, 694, etc.)
As some one who lives in Omaha Nebraska, and occasionally drives to Lincoln Ne, and Chicago Illinois. Good luck with no speed limit laws. We can’t even get driver to stay right except to pass. It’s the most aggravating thing about driving in this area(Kansas is good though). And all the people who drive 5 mph under in the far left lane. Iowa even worse. While Nebraskas law suggests to stay right except to pass, I believe Iowa has no law about respecting the fast lane. So if you ever see an Idiot Out Wondering Around (i.o.w.a).... it’s because they don’t understand how highway works. They might have connected the country, but it a way, we’re still fairly isolated.
It's been 65 years since Eisenhower developed the Interstate Highway System. What's your tribute to it's anniversary? "This highway system may grow the nation like how Germany did their Autobahn system and other European nations did their own highway system for not only to save time and grow the nation, but to help get the advantage. I'm impressed with their design and how they link through cities and towns and give scenic nature and skylines. Overall, this is a useful highway system for going coast to coast and border to border and I'm thankful to that."
I don't think you've ever been to Texas if you think that California's highways are the best. We've got every type of driving surface that you can think of, including almost every stretch of beach that are considered highways, and even a stretch of highway that has a speed limit of 85 mph! Suck on that's California!!!
Back then they probably were but now it's in bad shape. Texas has gone through a major remodeling of its highways and probably has the most modern and newest paved highways in the Country.
I've lived in both states and let me just say that California has such a huge population that it's inconvenient to close freways and also it's literally just going to wear down in a year but Texas on the other hand is huge but doesn't have as big of a population so it's easier to improve roads but i mean the highways in Lufkin are about the same roughness of a highway in Los Angeles
Man I wish the speed limit on I80 in Nebraska would increase, especially in rural stretches, but there are definitely more boring states to drive through (looking at you Iowa and Illinois) #GBR
North-south interstates have odd numbers, and east-west interstates have even numbers. For north-south interstates, the number is whatever percentage of the country is to the west of it. For east-west interstates, it is whatever percentage of the country is south of it.

north/south interstates end with 5, in increasing order from west to east (i.e. i-5 on the west coast from san diego to the canadian border) and i-95 on the eastern seaboard) and east/west interstates end with 0, in increasing order from south to north (ie. i-10 from los angeles to jacksonville and i-90 from seattle to boston) 50 and 60 are left out to avoid having the same designation as local state highways
do up to speed yugo or lada
Thats up to speed tho
They suck ass
You mean down from speed ?
You mean down from speed ?

They better include in that video the cat pressing a red button GIF, it's from a Mira commercial
I dont know about it so yes!! Z
I drove from Washington to Indiana to South Carolina to Louisiana to Texas to California and back to Washington for spring break. Interstate highways work well.
Love these videos! Keep bringing us the good content!
never noticed the pep-boy's connection, very subtle
This could have been a fun tidbit to add: "Thomas Jefferson directed his Postmaster General, Gideon Granger, to vastly expand the U.S. road system under the guise of building the post roads. His real motive was to make it easier for federal agents (postal appointees) to monitor the travels of his Vice President and arch-rival, Aaron Burr, as he made his way around the country seeking allies in a bid for independent power." - "Trains, Planes, and Automobiles: Reinventing Transportation Law" by Richard L. Hermann
This would make a good series.
Road trips in the Mazdaspeed3 must have been amazing
I always wondered why US hwys usually go unsigned while bottlenecking(conjoined hwys) an interstate, an example is US HWY 52 goes unsigned between St. Paul and Fargo
im amazed you havent run out of topics
1:51 YEEEEEEEESSSSSZS DO MOAR LINKIN PARK STUFF
Everything you need to know--to get up to speed--the Ford Ranger (maybe Bronco II) please!
They already did the Bronco...
@@joeljeffrey9139 That was the F-150 based Bronco, there was a second Bronco that was based on the ford ranger, named the Bronco II. James said he would cover the Bronco II when he goes over the Ford Ranger.
True dat
UP TO SPEED: BRICKLIN SV-1!!
its a wild story!!
thanks for the shoutout to Nebraska
Yup easy to drive state to state but try going from valley to the bay through 580 30 min drive become 2hours plus
Yes, some neighborhood that got destroyed were in poor areas like in Miami, and Washington DC. The government wanted to run I 95 throught Washington DC through Rock Creek Park, NW side of DC where the wealthy live. of course that got stopped. Which is why you have I395 stopping abruptly in the middle of DC.
Fun fact #1, Interstate 70 runs through a small Kansas town called Abilene. Fun fact #2, Abilene was Dwight D. Eisenhower's hometown, and is the home to his Presidential Library, Museum, and grave.
Fun Fact #3, Re: Eisenhower. "Nearly all of his mundane life tasks were outsourced; he didn’t even put on his own underwear. His valet, John Moaney, dressed him each morning head to toe. He hadn’t driven a car in years, eaten casually in a restaurant in more than a decade, learned to dial a telephone, shopped in a grocery store, written his own checks, or managed his own money." - G.M. Graff, Raven Rock
Odds go North/South, Evens go East/West. All Interstates are numbered between 1-99 expect for those who deviate from their parent highway (I-405 is a deviation and reconnects with I-5) in most cases, those three digit highways don’t actually cross a state line
Most interstates also have grass in between the lanes for being able to drive tanks and treaded vehicles down it without tearing up the pavement
The Lincoln highway goes right through my town in Illinois
I love you guys Videos, nice lil Team drop at 6 mins. Bet it would've been louder if ya hadn't played the Ravens last night! ;-) Aww Im just bustin chops! On with the content!
An episode on Route 66 would be so cool!
These pep boys ads are amazing
Lol we just increased the speed limits here in Nebraska on the highways. People might see nothing, but we get to go faster than all of y'all😂
There making a new highway here in Oklahoma and it looks like a rally stage. It’s crazy!
I’m speaking from experience drivers around Nebraska are content with not dealing loud speedy bios
Hannah Miyamoto Yes.... very!! Easy for us
Hannah Miyamoto You have nice profile.. you look very beautiful.
I’ve seen so many videos on this, I tried watching another but I just couldn’t.
Yes! Can someone please show this to Nebraska's governor. After my speeding ticket I have to avoid it on my road trips
Already liked for the Golf Country in the thumbnail
Deeemn, that was a good episode.
I would say Pepbros of life but we don't have one here :(
Montana had no speed limits on the interstate for many years.
Up to speed with MAZADA ESPEEDeh 3!!! Please do it! I will die without it. I need the video to support my lungs! I have vertigo!
Could you guys make a video about RUF in Up To Speed?it sounds great
I don't think you've ever been to Texas if you think that California's highways are the best. We've got every type of driving surface that you can think of, including almost every stretch of beach that are considered highways, and even a stretch of highway that has a speed limit of 85 mph! Suck on that's California!!!
Mike Lyssy I read that as Early Kyler
Back then they probably were but now it's in bad shape. Texas has gone through a major remodeling of its highways and probably has the most modern and newest paved highways in the Country.
I've lived in both states and let me just say that California has such a huge population that it's inconvenient to close freways and also it's literally just going to wear down in a year but Texas on the other hand is huge but doesn't have as big of a population so it's easier to improve roads but i mean the highways in Lufkin are about the same roughness of a highway in Los Angeles
Thanks for the shoutout, go Huskers
Good well-done vid.
Y’all need to put to instrumental in the description
Didn’t Montana technically have no speed limits for a brief period in the 90s?
Man I wish the speed limit on I80 in Nebraska would increase, especially in rural stretches, but there are definitely more boring states to drive through (looking at you Iowa and Illinois) #GBR
Do a video on the history of valet and detailing
Now this is a great fucking video! Thank you!
THAT MUSTACHE! Didn't think Nolan could be even uglier, but here he is!
Shhhhh he's beautiful...no homo
That is a Mopar mustache, he needs some aviators, driving gloves and an 80's Charger.
PGTMR2 never and I mean NEVER mention the 80s chargers
@@brianmcfarland6548 Hood scoop, spoiler, 84 hrsprs... oh she was fast.
PGTMR2 RAMCHARGERS!
Spittin facts about Cali being #1
North-south interstates have odd numbers, and east-west interstates have even numbers. For north-south interstates, the number is whatever percentage of the country is to the west of it. For east-west interstates, it is whatever percentage of the country is south of it.
I really like this video, but I think this video is underrated.
Woo Nolan! Go Huskers! #GBR
I already learned about this in 2006 when I saw the Pixar movie, “CARS.”
Actually, a state did abolish the spd limit on their interstate. Montana did it for a while.
