  • In 1942, as a result of the evacuation from the Soviet Union to Iran, about 120,000 people left. Half of the 40,000 civilians were children. They came to Persia exhausted, sick and hungry. Here, however, they met caring Iranians and representatives of the Polish and British governments. Then, with or without their families, they traveled around the world. Only a small percentage lived in Poland within the new borders. Many people around the world maintain cordial contacts with each other. In 2012, on the 70th anniversary of their arrival in the Middle East, they met in Jurata.
