Its what made the message sink in, not the Federations allies that saw value in the ancient message but in one of its feared enemies - they saw its value.
It's a touching scene honestly. A race of advanced beings set out into the galaxy and found no other forms like themselves. That must have been severely depressing to them, such a vast universe with no life. So they took upon themselves to seed life everywhere they could. It's touching. Damn good writing.
No no no no no no, they seeded life every where said remember us but didn't think to tell us their names? The plot hole is big enough to drive a Galaxy class through!
@@flacidhouse350 - For one thing, if done deliberately, means Changelings would also be related to solids. Given their fear, that could have interesting ramifications. And who's to say that these ancients couldn't travel to another galaxy? P.S. We don't know AT ALL that Odo is the most traveled Changeling, you're making unfounded assumptions based on very little. The female Changeling said many young ones were sent out, and not all returned. There's absolutely no way of knowing where they all ended up. As we saw with Odo and Voyager, beings can end up just about anywhere with natural phenomena- and that doesn't include unnatural, like Q or the Borg transwarp conduits. Then there's even the different TIME possibilities. To assume Odo is the most far traveled, just because we know him as the most far traveled KNOWN, and it's impossible for any others to have gone farther, is just arrogant. One could have ended up so far away that, like Voyager, it would take decades or centuries to return and then THEY would be the most far traveled Changeling known. Key here is KNOWN. Our knowledge is only current as of the now, and a discovery tomorrow can change everything. Further, you can prove or disprove the known, but not the unknown.

All they wanted was to be remembered, and that’s been honored. The First Humanoids did pop up in _Star Trek Online._ A living archive of them, hundreds of them in stasis. You know what happens when they wake up? They’re immensely grateful and express a desire to go out and see what the other races have built. This episode encapsulate the message of all star trek series that if we get out of our own way and stop seeing whatever deference we have and acknowledge we are all one race, open up and get out of our own way anything is possible even the stars themselves.
it's more than a part, it was IT IS. It was Roddenberry's vision for humanity to look itself for what it is, the HUMAN race, all of us.....black, white, Asian, European, Hispanic, etc. etc. etc. we all come from the same building blocks of life, we are all related. Being related doesn't mean we have to agree on everything, it just means we need to listen to everything and draw our own conclusions or right and wrong, good and evil, love and hate. We have the potential of being such a marvelous race, if we can just set aside our petty prejudices.

@Droxy 56 Now that on the other hand... that is pure evil and cannot be forgiven!
The exchange between Picard and the Romulan Commander at the end really brought everything home.
Not all Romulans are blood thirsty and xenophobic. He proved that there is still some Vulcan in them.
@@CardboardSliver Maybe..or maybe the Romulans look for any sort of weakness or leverage in anything to do with the Federation that this commender decided to feign interest cause who knows if he would encounter Picard again and can use that against him.

Its what made the message sink in, not the Federations allies that saw value in the ancient message but in one of its feared enemies - they saw its value.
Cue the Romulan Republic in STO.
It's a touching scene honestly. A race of advanced beings set out into the galaxy and found no other forms like themselves. That must have been severely depressing to them, such a vast universe with no life. So they took upon themselves to seed life everywhere they could. It's touching. Damn good writing.

With enemies like Romulans, who needs allies?
Now this a good writing lesson: how to turn a story's weakness (the prevalence of rubber foreheaded aliens) into not only a strength of the plot but a downright monumental part of the story's universe. I love them even more because in the decades since this episode came out the writers of Trek have had the decency to not ruin them by having any First Humanoid weapons show up or for an army of them to reappear and want to conquer the universe or anything like that. All they wanted was to be remembered, and that’s been honored.
The First Humanoids did pop up in _Star Trek Online._ A living archive of them, hundreds of them in stasis. You know what happens when they wake up? They’re immensely grateful and express a desire to go out and see what the other races have built. They’re given huge overtones of proud parents, happy that their kids have grown up well and are doing fine for themselves. No judgment or condescension.

This is part of what Star Trek is
JJ Trek don’t have
Current Trek lost it even more
Discovery is worse than JJ's Trek.
it's more than a part, it was IT IS.

I wonder if her voice was always as low as they way she "grumbles" in her DS9 role of the female Founder. @@TheUnsungVil "I don't like it so nobody should like it too" mentality only shows a inability to look past your own opinions, it shows a limited cognitive ability.
What about it?
I love this scene. It's profound, funny, sad, and ironic all at the same time. "It would have been a more fitting legacy if the message hadn't fallen on such deaf ears!" Even when he's angry, Captain Picard can be funny! :)
Should have been played by Morgan Freeman
....And they were never mentioned again.
Patrick Bright .......Untill Star Trek Online were they awake from stasis only to be killed by the Iconions.
I like to imagine that this the race The Founders evolved from.
Just like the parasite aliens in "Conspiracy"... Too bad really.
@Robot Quentin Those parasite aliens are better in the past, never to be talked about again, tbh; not the most brilliant episodes to say the least.
+Patrick it fell on those deaf ears, you know. and they are extinct for how many million years? Jordi creating Brahms on the holodeck is more present.
The early 90's, also known as the good ole days....
electra Damn. You're both young AND old! So how come neither of those vantage points affords you being right? 😂
Romulan: One Day
Picard: One Day
Me: Star Trek Nemesis
Romulan: Prehaps we share some things, yes?
Picard: Yes...
Romulan: Maybe one day..
Picard: one day..
Romulan: Well im off, gotta use the bathroom
Picard: bathroom..
Romulan: you haven't heard anything I said have you?
Picard: have you...
Dream The Endless I have not seen Your Chessie System logo for years!
The klingon certainly didnt think it was the best moment in ST history.
It's one of the most important scientific discoveries in history and it's never again referred to in subsequent episodes.

But how do you mention it again? Maybe a reference, but up you can’t do anything major since the mystery has been solved, and there’s nothing left to talk about
Yes, the big and powerful Reset Button. Star Trek needs to do a follow up story.
Aside from explaining the obvious about the similarity of "life forms" in the universe, I found this scene so touching when I originally saw it so many decades ago. Gives me goosebumps al over again!
Scenes like this make me watch this series over and over again.
I really hope that the new show with Patrick Steward can come up again with the same
thoughtful and profound stories that have moral and a meaning.
Which one's Kim Cardassian?
EarthIs NotFlat The one with the big asteroid.
Well played, well played
Seska from Voyager.
nonono... you're thinking of kardashians, cold blooded lizard people that want to control humanity, these are cardassians, cold blooded lizard people who... ermmm, nevermind
The one with really BIG --Vagi---- SPOON on her Head.........
oh my..Dr. Crusher curled up like a cat on Picards couch...Rawr!
She was a looker back in the day, that's for sure.
I would have snapped her in half.
Old Jean-Luc wanted that. But, kept seeing Jack Crusher's face shaking his head in disapproval.

The Metamorphic Empath was the ultimate woman for him... and for everyone else so it seemed
Although we must'nt forget about Vasch and that cat and mouse game they played
@@tommypetraglia4688 I always thought Vash was cooler & Kamala sexier for Picard. But in a weird way, I feel Salome Jens (female humanoid messenger), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher) and Linda Thorsen (Cardassian Gul Ocett) are all just as hot as Famke Jenssen (Kamala)
That call with the romulan commander at the end was the icing on top of the cake.
This episode reminds me a lot of another similar episode, which is rated as one of the very best of all the Star Trek shows, “The Inner Light”. Watch it to see the similarities, if you haven’t had the pleasure to have seen it already, a very moving story.
"Perhaps...One day" The tone drives the implication, one day the galaxy "may" be united...Unless mutual destruction comes first.
Than the Milky Way will proceed to have inter-galactic conflicts.
TNG was always on about brotherhood and the like. To bad the message has gone unanswered, even in the future.
Each story a morality play, which is why as a 20 something guy TNG struck a chord with me
Won't know until some alien picks up our Voyager probes and decodes the golden records they carry.
_'It was our wish that you too would know life'_ for some reason, as I look around, that hits me hard... it feels like a message from beyond my little reality. \o/
This episode should have been saved for a movie! It was one of THE BEST moments in Star Trek History! It explains so much! 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
It doesn't explain anything new.
Do you remember what the episodes name is so I can watch it in full
@@silencejames That would be "The Chase".
