In this video, we delve into Goa's unique Diwali tradition of Narkasur-making. During this festive time, effigies of Narkasur are created, displayed, and ultimately burnt to symbolise the triumph of good over evil.
Diwali is a festival of lights that celebrates Lord Krishna’s victory over the Demon King Narkasura, who created chaos in both heaven and earth. On this special day, we light up our homes with lamps welcoming positivity and prosperity.
In Goa, a unique tradition unfolds during this season: the making of Narkasur effigies. Similar to Dussehra, where large figures of Ravana are built and burnt, the effigies of Narkasur are crafted and burnt to represent the demon's defeat and mark the dawn of a new day celebrated as Diwali.
Local groups, especially the youth, come together well in advance to plan and create these impressive structures.
