- A brief look at my 1972 Ossa 250 Mick Andrews Replica. Ossa contracted Mick to develop a winning trials machine, and boy did Mick come through. He won the European Championship in 1971 and 1972 on the bike, as well as 3 SSDTs in a row, 1971, 1972 and 1973. I am lucky to have had this bike signed by Mick himself.
In '73 I drooled over this bike in a shop in El Paso. Dad needed something he could ride to work and I could play with in the desert. We bought a Hodaka Wombat. Never forgot the MAR though and 20 years later they were very hard to find. I went with vintage Montesa Cotas for AHRMA. Beautiful bike!
That’s a great story! Hodakas are nice. The MAR is different from the Cotas though they’re all great. I’d put the Ossa engine at the top for smoothness and right down low grunt. The Cota 247 is more ‘snappy’ and the 348 is a powerhouse - can get you into trouble pretty quick. Of course other opinions are available.
Nice one mate just finished my 1961 triumph tiger cub trials and going to start my 1971 ossa mar . Excellent - lucky you! I've met Mick here in Canada - he attends the Ormstown event in Quebec regularly.
Still got my Cheney cantilever ossa from 74,never seen another one at a trial or for sale ,fitted with a Kieth horseman reed valve, it was an incredible bike ,

i bought one in houston in 72. paid about $1050. i loved observed trials over enduro and motocross. i sold it about 2 yrs later for $825. i wish i still had it.
Oh I understand. Yes they are very fun and easy bikes to ride, with such lovely motors that one can forgive the poor brakes. Hope you find another one soon!

Had a 72 Pioneer. Compression release was my only working brake.
Ha ha ha I can imagine. The brakes on this bike absolutely suck. I've been riding trials since the 70s and know/remember all the tricks, but nothing makes much difference. It's a shame because the motor is such a joy, and the bike steers so well. Alas.

That bike had a fiberglass shield for the bottom of the engine, that is why that wires look odd, because they shouldnt be exposed. You should try to get one or build one with an aluminium sheet of 15mm, you can break the aluminium crankcase if you do some trial. Regards

@@wakinossin 8 mm didn't work on rear bash plate.grrrrr. four holes totally confused. But still open to options. Just drill and tap. ?
@@dexterthompson1809 Funny, it's 8mm on mine, all four at the back and the two at the front. All 6 mounts are threaded on mine so you better check yours before drilling and re-tapping.
@@wakinossin thank you sir. I dont doubt you. Mine is just not 8mm. It's interesting how these folks put things back together back then. Everything seems to be hit or miss. Even putting engine in frame. So many adjustments had to be made. Oh well! Times are different. But I appreciate your input.

Oh how sad. Yes here in Canada we miss a lot of models that the US and the UK get, not to mention those that are avialable in Europe! But over time people import them personally and then the bikes get sold and so on. Ossas, Montesas and Bultacos were sold here though and there are a few, though I wouldn't say there were many!
