Now the running gag of re-using that Bird of Prey for anything and everything in subsequent stories makes sense and is hilarious.

Something that was listed as a reason for going with the Klingons back in the Starlog days was budget. They had 12 uniforms leftover from TMP and various set pieces left over from the Klingon bridge. All of these could easily be reused without adding to the budget.

@@thevalarauka101 Not thrilled with it either, but I've watched a lot of "Star Trek 5" review videos lately and I'm struck by how many admirers that one actually has. McCoy pulling the plug on his dad, Kirk's line about needing his pain, even the camp fire scenes are for some fans their favourite moments in the franchise. Apparently the movie just had to wait a few decades to find some appreciation.

Almost terse in her Vulcan delivery, she nonetheless manages to allow enough compassion to surface in her delivery to bring some small comfort to the grieving Kirk. Good presentation, as usual. I think it’s a good science fiction story but I have some qualms: 1. I I honestly don’t get how everybody thinks that Lloyd was so good in this… I think he is a major weakness. 2. The Klingon headpieces look too phony. They should have altered the actors’ actual faces to blend in with them better. 3. The animatronic dog like creature looks totally out of place… Like somebody used a prop from The Dark Crystal or something. That said., i’ve always thought that Saavik’s helping Spock through Pon Farr is one of the most intelligent & mature touches to any Star Trek moments. She did what she had to do to help Spock through, and it was intensely womanly! This scene alone almost makes up for the weaknesses.

I was hoping there would be a comment on the religious undertone of ST III. Spock for all intents and purposes is "resurrected" at the end of the story. On the "altar" Spock lays near the one who has his "kottra" (spirit). The one who has his spirt is McCoy, "Son of David". A direct reference to Jesus Christ.

@@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast thanks......another bit of info.......... on Star Trek next Generation.....Episode "Cause and Effect" where the Enterprise D relives over and over the same day which causes the Enterprise to be Destroyed........at the end of the episode When Picard talks to the Captain of the USS Bozeman who was played by Cheers star Kelsey Grammer The production team had hoped to get Kirstie Alley in a cameo role behind her Cheers costar Kelsey Grammer in the USS Bozeman reprising her role as Lt. Saavik from the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), but her asking price was too high for such a small role...... which was a shame that money problems caused her not to be in the episode. it would have been cool to see her in Star Trek Next Generation.

There's a lot of stuff I heard about William Shatner especially when he told the fans to get a life any thought they were obsessed with the Star Trek thing and he didn't get it until he went to a few of the conventions and then it finally sunk in He really pissed me off at first but what I hear what he did in minute 15 about helping save the set when it was burning down I'm glad to hear it It makes me feel a little less ambivalent about him Especially when I heard his comments during his TJ Hooker days It really pissed me off about the cops using the chokeholds just convinced me What a bubble he lived in and how out of touch he was with the real world and living in the streets of L.A. which clearly showed me he had no idea! I still love Kirk And that's so big of a fan of William!

It's really the planet sets that pull Star Trek III down, just like V being seen negatively due to the poor visual and special effects. Both have some of the best character moments in the franchise.

It amazes me with all the millions of fans that it kept Star Trek alive after it was canceled after two seasons that they never thought of asking what the fans wanted and get a consensus I'm sure there would have been a lot of stuff that would have been junk but there might have got a better idea of what people really wanted to see I read more novels written by so many authors of Star Trek that would have made great screenplays but I know Paramount was too cheap to want to pay for the rights to any of these novels that were far better I think than many many of the stories they came to write and call it Star Trek or Star Wars for that MATTER ... No one ever bothered to ask the people that made them hundreds if not thousands of millions .... I FEEL THAT'S VERY SHORTSIGHTED ON THE PART OF THE BIG HEAD MOGULS OF PARAMOUNT AND THOSE BIG HEADS HAVING TO DO ANYTHING WITH THIS EXTRAORDINARY LEGACY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A HELL OF A LOT BETTER!

I've read a lot of Star Trek novels but I don't think I've ever read the Khan one. I do remember reading the Search for Spock, which I particularly still recall because of the extra scenes that were cut out of the movie; like the young girl approaching Spock after the ritual on Mt Selaya. That girl is actually credited at the end of the movie but the scene is on the cutting room floor.
