I just lost my Maggie yesterday. She was dumped on the side of the road 11 years ago. She was waiting for the idiots that threw her away. She was cold and scared. I bought her home and she never left my side. She loved unconditionally with her heart and soul. Her body failed her but not her love. As I sat on the floor holding her and her paw, I watched her pass. My heart breaks for my Maggie girl. Ran free of pain sweet girl. Mommy loves you 💗 💓 ❤.

I'm a 71 year old widower. My wife passed 10/5/2021. We had 6 dogs. I don't think her old one will be around much longer but I will be with her on her last day. God Bless America, God Save The Republic.

Three days after she went in the hospital I had put down our old boy. One day he seemed invincible. The next day he was unable to stand. Cancer.
Up date.. I just lost another one yesterday,, 5 Feb 2024. Had him for 15 years. He was given to me. Either I took him or the dog pound would. So I gave him a good loving home.. i'm setting here crying like a baby..
I'm 75 years old and cry like a baby e very time I hear this song. I've had, loved and lost far too many dogs and they were all wonderful loving friends and companions. All were better than most of the humans I have known. I'm looking forward to being with all of them some time in the distant future.

I had a Chihuahua named precious for 14 year's I lost her and it tore my heart out I cried for 3 weeks! My husband came home one day with a baby Chihuahua and I said no I want Precious! He said that can't happen, just take care of this baby till I can find her a home! So I agreed but I said another one want replace precious a week went by we named her Bambi! Well my heart begin to feel better Bambi helped fill that big hole in my heart I never thought I could love another dog! but here's to 5 years later I still have my precious Bambi I love so much! I still miss precious everyday thou!.
They absolutely do!! And all dogs go to Heaven after they cross that rainbow 🌈 bridge 😢 My Onyx, an all black pug when we got him when he was 8 weeks old 💞 He was such a happy, fun loving lil' guy! Great with everyone, especially kids. We were Blessed to have him 'til he was 18 & well, he was mostly white with a slight undercoat of the shiny black fur by then!! He had a great life. Miss you buddy!! 🐶
I sure hope so I just lost my little fur baby last Tuesday 6/11 I'm grieving so bad for him. I just hope 1 day we all will be with our precious fur babies one day when u have to leave this world. 😢😢😢
Oh, my goodness. If that doesn't bring tears to your eyes, you must be "dead". For those of us who have had that strong connection to a pet, it digs deep, real deep. Thanks, Chris. You can pull at our emotions and heartsprings like no one can these days.
Just had to put my best friend to sleep 3 days ago and I don't know if I will ever be the same. Maverick my Aussie will forever hold a spot in my heart no dog will ever be able to replace. I have another dog too a female Aussie whom I love to death, but she could never be what he was to me. He came into my life at a point when I was pretty low and helped me in so many ways and was by best friend from day 1. He only lived to be 9.5 and had to rush him to the emergency vet as he was fine in the morning when I left for work, but when I got home collapsed trying to walk to me and was drooling everywhere to find out he had a tumor in his spleen that had burst and blood had filled his abdomen. Surgery would have cost 8.5K which I would have happily paid, but at his age and the fact that his spleen burst the vet told me she was almost positive it was cancerous and even with a successful surgery he would only have about 5-6 months. So I decided I didn't want his last days to be spent in pain recovering from a surgery then pain from cancer so I put him down. I've never known hurt like this and can't imagine a pain like it. Don't have kids, but I suppose a parent burying their child would be worse, but at 38 with no kids and no wife he was my entire world. I would give anything to have him back with me and have never felt so lost and alone.
I lost my baby after 17 years. He was the perfect dog. I'm trying to get another, but I am still grieving for my precious baby.

It's hard letting go. I had a Golden Retriever who passed this last August, at the ripe old age of 17 (!)
She was four when she came to me, and was with me for thirteen years. This song makes me break down and cry like a baby every time
I hear it; I know dogs have a soul. I've never doubted it. The tears are a good thing, though. They help wash away the pain of losing friends, FAMILY, that you know won't live as long as you. Doggos are pure souls, so they just get to go home earlier. And I truly believe the God I know wouldn't permanently separate us from our furfriends. So I'll see them again someday. RIP Misty, Molly, Roland, and Heidi.
Makes me cry. I am reminded of our first rescue and how hard it was to let her go...I thought I/we would never have another one, but we now have a new one. She was abused and abandoned and as I told my wife she needed us. It has taken a lot of work and love, but she is ours now and we are hers. I have no doubt that dogs were created by God to give us a glimpse of unconditional love.

I lost my girl last March, to cancer. Her name was Daisie and she's pictured with me. Best dog ever, and my husband and I took some of her ashes to our favorite off roading spot in the mountains in Santa Clarita CA. We put a little part of her under a tree overlooking the Apple Valley. She absolutely loved going on our off road adventures. Every day I think of her and how much I miss that 78 pounds of pure love. This is no joke: making the decision to put her down was the hardest decision of my adult live. I almost passed out in the hallway of the Vet hospital walking out of there with her empty collar and saying goodbye to her. Truly a one in a billion dog.

They've been with all of us and each one EXTREMELY special in their own way. They've brought light, life snd smiles to each of us. Our Maggie known as Ziggy is still with us. We rescued her because no one wanted her, why she was a runner. Adopted several times and brought back she ended with us. Bought an expense fence to fence in our large yard where she runs freely. Sometimes when she is silly and wants to play with our other rescue she runs like PHOEBEE from friends, all four legs flaring in all directions. She brings so much love and smiles. She has a sensitive side too staying by my side as I fight through stage 4 lung cancer. I’ll give her the best life possible until it’s her time. My husband heard this song and sent it to me. Ahh! She looks like a mini black Aussie with some white 20 pounds of pure joy.
Lost my Bingo this morning, February 3, 2024. He was 1/2 Australian Shepherd. Found him March 2011. Guessed he was about 2 then. He was a trooper, up for anything.

Lost my Daisy Mae a little over five years ago at age eleven years and one month, due to cancer in her throat. Taking her to the vet to put her down was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I have a 14 month old American Staffordshire Terrier (pitbull) that adopted me when he was 4 months old. We haven't spent a single day away from each other since the day we met. Dozer is. Such sweet and gentle giant. He's also my shadow, my protector, my reason to get up and by far the best friend I've ever had.

This song by the great Chris is dedicated to my "Dooey Boy". He was a Briard Mix with a bad leg from birth my young son picked out from the rescue shelter. Dooey Boy was with us alomost 16 years ....the last year Dooey Boy was pushed in a special stroller when we went out for long walks. Dooey Boy is buried under the oak tree we planted out in the middle of the so. california desert. We don't live there any longer but I will drive by one day and see how big the tree has grown. Dooey Boy has been running with perfect legs thru the flowers and rivers almost 11 years now. I'm 63 years old now and have another "Maggie" dog...her name is ShyShy a german shepherd 10 years old and shes almost as amazing as Dooey Boy. I can't imagine life without a "Maggie" thank you Chris for singing this touching song.

My daughter just took my black lab down to college. When I got the dog from the shelter as a puppy, they named her Maggie. She's still alive and well, but something is missing around here.
Heard this song yesterday and I’m still crying. I’m 62 and I’ve raised many dogs. My current Boxer has the dog version of Lou Gehrig’s disease and her rear legs don’t work hardly at all. She walks like a drunken sailor. We know she will only be with us a few more months. She’s 10 and has been the most loving, trusting, well behaved, and athletic dog I’ve ever seen. Many days she’d run to exhaustion catching a tennis ball or a frisbee. Now she can barely walk. Every time I snuggle with her she always puts her left paw on my right arm. That paw print is now tattooed on that arm.

Anyone who has owned and loved a dog cannot listen to this song without lots of tears. I have lost five good dogs in my 75 years with a few of them passing in my arms. So much unconditional love from our canine friends.

I have been friends with a lot of dogs. My best friend was a rescue from the side if the road. His name was Benji. My Dad said we'd take him home then help him find a good home the next day. He stayed with us for the next 18 years and two moves. He was a cockapoo. This song was made for people who understand a good friendship with a dog. Makes me want to see Dog the movie with Channing Tatum.
Our little Mona passed a few weeks ago. She was Dachshund mix. She was almost 16. She was so many things......!! She was a Hurricane Katrina rescue pup, as is her sister Maude. She was so smart......she was so funny. She was sweet (most of the time...) She was a tough little girl. Our very small house feels very large and quiet now. I’ve had my Clay since he was five weeks old....not a single living soul looks at me with absolutely nothing but love. My boy turns 7 this year. He got me through the military and the hardest times in my life including wanting to end it all. He’s kept me going and not give up. Heavens going to gain a good dog.

My soulmate crossed the rainbow bridge November 9, 2020. His name was Skeeter Leg. He was the best dog ever & my saving grace more than once! I wrote this otw home from vets that day. I am not the same woman prior to his passing.

I heard this song for the first time tonight on the drive home. Cried my eyes out. I’ve said goodbye to seven dearly loved pups over the years. I had six pups at one point, now I have two (and a cat). If money and time were no object, I’d give all rescues a home.

i have rescued quite a few 'roadies' off highways, country roads, pastures......got then fixed, shots, etc....found them homes....i've kept the old ones, ones with medical issues, or behavior issues........giving them & me, our "best lives"......................

I just lost my best friend of my whole life when we got him I was 2 and we grew up together we noticed that he was getting skinny and skinny so we got him checked up and and the vet said that they were surprised that he was still alive they said he should have died 2 months before and wanted to put him down right then and there but we brought him home one last time

We were blessed to have sweet Rocky for 17 years. He died in my arms December 14, 2021. He is buried at the gold fish pond, where he loved to drink the water. My buddy Rocky, you will always live in my heart.

I recently lost my sweet Maggie. It was extremely hard because she was almost 18, I’ve known her my whole life. It really seems like he is singing about her. I miss her so much and now this song has a special place in my heart.

My baby was a pitbull and he was my best friend. He passed away on February 13th of 2018. We had gotten him when I was just 4 years old, almost 5. He was 12½ years old when he passed and I was going to be 18 that year. He had helped me through so much growing up and he's the reason I love pitbulls as much as I do. I have his pawprint tattooed on my forearm... my only tattoo so far. He will always be my best friend and my protector. Nothing and nobody ever harmed me or my family when he was still here. I can't wait to be back with him at the bridge and I hope he's being a good boy up there.

One of the best songs ever written from the heart. Been an animal lover and owner all my life, even before I could speak, and I remember every one of them. This song converted me to a Chris Stapleton fan - anyone can sing these lyrics but to write them speaks volumes about the person he is. Listening to it moves me to feelings of pain just losing every single one of them over my years.
Heard this for the first time when i saw him live the other night. I was weeping by the end of the song. I have a whole new appreciation for Chris Stapleton now.

I just lost my last childhood dog last night. We got her from a flea market, and she was loved and honestly spoiled for 17 years. She stayed alive long enough for me to get home and say goodbye.

Omg😪 last month our beagle died of cancer with her head on my chest and paws on my shoulders. Sally was a rescue dog that gave us her best for 15 years. This song has opened a flood! If I can't finish listening how can Chris sing it about his own? A DOG HAS A SOUL....WHEW!
Our girl Lady spent 14 year making our life worth living, she went on to heaven to wait for us there and I miss her so much. The day we met her at the shelter, she walked up to the door and the hubs said it was like she said I been sitting here waiting on you and that is how it will be when we join her again.

We lost Our Zippy Boy on December 28th 2020. He had a heart condition and died at home. We were by His side when He passed. I told Him that He was a good boy and it was time to go home. He sat up and looked at My Wife and I one last time and then layed down and passed away. My Wife still cries every day for ol Zip..She called Him Her "Lil Secret Service" because He followed Her everywhere She went. He was the best Family dog and will always be missed. Zip was an Italian Greyhound. Till We meet again.....ol boy!

I said good bye to my Bacco yesterday. He was just shy of 10 years old and provide me more love than I deserved. They say a Dog's life is shorter than a human because a dog provides 10x the love and joy than human and I know that is true. This is the 5th dog I have lost over the years and it never gets any easier but I would not trade the pain i am feeling today if it meant given back all the love and joy I had all those years!!

I found a pair of pups on Dixie Highway in 2001, brought'em home and named them Dixie and Highway. Highway made it to 9, Dixie made it to almost 13. Great dogs, I loved them then and I love them now.

Wow - Tears - sounds just our Golden Retriever - Her name was Maggie too! She was the best dog ever! We think about her and miss her so much! My daughter and I wish we could talk my hubby to get another dog. I don't think he would ever want to go through getting attached to another dog and something happening to it. She was our baby too! She would run after the squirrels and go see the neighbors - we all loved her so much! Just before she passed she couldn't walk anymore too! She passed at 9 years old with cancer. Beautiful song!
