8:20 I wonder if Osa placed her shield just as the thorn grenade exploded, the damage is blocked considering her feet are exposed when carrying it. Definitely need to test this out.
Osa shields do block thorn shrapnel as its not an explosive. I remember watching a mythbusting video when Osa came out and they confirmed it then.
It doesn’t matter. Any shield operators you’ll use, except for Blackbeard, will take damage reduction from the razorbloom shells. They aren’t immune.
Given that Macie still has EMP impact grenades he should’ve use all of it, expecting any electronic traps behind that deployable shield.
@@chalexen2862not like he could’ve known there was a Thorn on the defender’s team. His team may have been able to warn him about Thorn traps, but I don’t think I seen them did it once. Especially the person who eliminated Thorn.
True. However, from what I can tell from the team scores and the attacker’s team composition it implies that they’ve kept bringing entry fraggers to the point were it provoked defenders into bringing traps. It’s the same scenario I’ve encountered when I kept bringing Blitz every round.
Lesion and Frost presented above were basically the only hints.

I always play to plant the defuser. The game is so much more fun when you outbrain your enemies.
I'm not the most strategic, but I definitely enjoying playing and watching siege with a little more thought behind things than just running and gunning.

As someone who used to play “proper siege” I miss it so much! Haven’t played it in a few months
they can literally reduce movement speed a bit below walking speed while ads and it will fix all the cod problems instantly

EH, understand your condolences there.
When I Started siege it felt more "Tactical", like you kinda had people who worked towards working reletively tactically to get the angle on your enemy to win, AND go for objectives.
But these days it's just run-and-gun. Just go in, shoot shoot shoot, get head shot, get that adrenaline rush.
And it's becomes so much of a focus, that I've now come across more players who:
- Rush in, die, leave.
- Don't get a single kill in a round, leave.
- Be the last 1 standing. Leaves cause they haven't even gone into the building yet.
- Be the last 2 Standing. Leaves cause it's a 2 vs 4 and they don't want to put in effort cause they know they can't run and gun.

I have terrible aim (I'm OLD), but Macie's strats really help getting victories, even for bad gunners like me.

What a man! Still finding new ways to stick to "Classic Siege" or "Proper Siege" as you say so well. I can hear the disdain in your voice when you say (implicitly and explicitly) nobody plays Siege at its full potential and treat it just like an arcade shooter, when it is so much deeper than that. I will be there if and when you decide to stick with a new game, waiting for you to surpass every expectation of the community. Love you Macie!

That first clip I mean what do you do? Lol. Macie is a genius when it comes to stuff like this.
Grab the defuser and go to the other site to create as much separation as possible from Echo and his drone.
Then you don't have to worry about Echo swinging you, allowing you to safely shoot the drone when planting or just keep planting, Echo can only deny the plant twice before it needs to recharge, he had over a minute left so that is an option.
Echo can not run to lockers in time to deny the plant directly when sitting in servers, so it should be guaranteed to go down at the least.
Post plant may not favor the Kali 100% but it's a much better chance of winning than swinging Echo directly while concussed.

They have a drone on him so they will know for certain which way he comes from and there's only two ways he can go, through site or loop around and come down stairs, as a kali why would you take a close fight like that? I know he was using the secondary but you don't even have to be super accurate with the sniper, you just have to clip an arm or a leg in some cases

It just sends like the mindset has shifted a bit no disrespect intended btw

I think the days of proper siege is long gone with the new generation of players. The game has shifted to tdm, and older players are being shunned for playing the game the way it was intended. No one listens to reason and facts. I truly don’t know what to do to change it. I play the game less and less now. Thanks for the tactical content it’s still appreciated.

If you are in server room, you are geting pinged and you can't find a drone, it's in the dronehole of blue stairs most of the time.

4:32 On console it’s always a risk for me to act like an in-game leader (IGL). When I do I mostly ended up fighting/arguing at my toxic teammates and the only way they’ll actually start listening to me is if I somehow miraculously get to the top of the leaderboard. That’s literally the current state of Siege. Nobody cares about opinions anymore unless you create results.

been watching you since around 2016-2017, i'm just returning to siege after not playing since 2019 and it's genuinely insane how much different the game is now. i took a very long break from all things siege, including content as well, and coming back to it now is just.. so jarring. i was a high plat/mid diamond player in original siege, and the last thing you said about it feeling like tdm is spot on.
there's no more post-plant team set-ups, there's no true coordination in operators being picked, it just feels like a more "tactical" overwatch at this point. the amount of rounds i've won since returning simply out of being the last person alive and holding a BASIC ass angle is insane. all in all, i love your content macie, you're the content creator i've always enjoyed watching in siege - maybe kix gives you a run for your money :') #BringBackOpHealthSiege
It's funny you put bring back op health Siege because that was the operation I made diamond in back in the day lol the other thing that is killing siege is xim at least on console since I played on Xbox. Can't back this past season and didn't do too bad, tactical siege still works fairly well but I'm airways forced to play hard breacher since no one else does but if I don't see anyone that can get mute, bandit or kaid I'll switch to capitao and breach an off angle only to have a good plant spot totally wasted since it's now team death match

@@sahdaddy1959 it's rough bro, my buddy's quit playing surge again because of it. We got to plat pretty easily and then we were just running into xims damn near every match it felt like. There was no shame either, or suspicions were anyways confirmed with the crouch spam that is very obviously only done with mnk
I agree. I dont quite know when but the game changed from a semi-tatical shooter with atleast some level of realism to a more generic feeling hero shooter-esque game with cops instead of super heroes, perhaps it was around the time they started adding those no risk, one click abilities(Finka, Lion, Etc). Those elements that made Siege unique are just a shell of what they use to be.

I remember old Siege where every single person on defense just stayed on site and no one roamed at all and just hid there waiting.
I returned to siege some weeks ago I'm currently silver II and I hate it. It's absolute mayhem, no one tries to plant, no one is patient when at a numerous advantage, no one holds their ground. They're always trying to frag and hunt down everyone, it's definitely like a deathmatch...

10:43 I can’t lie Macie, I totally agree with you but at that point the score is 0-1, it’s a 5v1 and the bomb is planted. I feel like there’s an unwritten rule most people follow that you can go chase the last guy alive until it’s a 3v1 or 2v1, at that point yes 100% just guard the diffuser. Most times you’re guaranteed to win a round like that.
Just got back into the game after a few years off and I get the “proper siege frustration”. I’m an Xbox player so I could only imagine how much of a tdm fest ranked on pc is. Funny enough, in a lot of casual lobbies on Xbox, it’s so nostalgic seeing everyone on attack slowly sweeping the building and moving together lol. It’s not every match but I love playing like that even if it’s not the most effective
it is the most effective literally everyone roams u can get a couple picks just from actively sweeping rooms of roamers

4:32 We now push aqua and A site mainly when I play with my friends. Bring Sens and Hibana and we can plant default like 4 out of 5 times.

Macie, your idea of "proper" siege is correct. One of the reason i dont play anymore(only when i have a full squad of friends to play) is that everyone treats the game like its a run and gun TDM. I miss the old siege.

as a defuser main i know how to always play objective and would like to stand against your "people"
I believe a big factor as to why there is no ¨proper¨ siege anymore is because allot of traps like Kapkan etc that forces you to slow down is either not as lethal anymore or its just way too easy to get rid of them using the EMP grenades or other means to disable or destroy them, which makes you lean towards a rush mentality instead of taking it at a slower pace to really investigate the area and then clearing it to avoid destroying yourself. And my own thoughts for the defenders is that they don't feel like they are at a disadvantage when they roam and hunt attackers instead of defending their objectives which i contribute to Solis most heavily but not exclusively. There is definitely much more to this but its how i view it.
These videos are such a different experience from the streams.
The man is completely drained of any enjoyment of the game in his streams.
8:25 this entire segment was frustrating, even though defence one all they had to do was play time and force Macie come to them and not brainlessly try to fight him like that. Hell they could've done coordinated peaks if they want him so bad
I feel like your proper siege problem is especially bad in Champ. I am nowhere near that, maybe platinum average, and I too can notice the TDM meta, but not to the same extent. Quite often I get teams with great coordination and utility usage, and it might help that I usually play with 4-stack as well. Despite all this, I do feel most matches resemble deathmatch more than proper siege.

I'm still learning from Macie Jay, trying to play a proper siege is frustrating. I pick a breacher and asked someone to pick thatcher or at least pick emp instead of any other utility but nobody listens
I love how Macie plays but in that last clip, the push was fine. 1 or 2 ppl pushing the last guy in a 1v4 is fine in that situation, they know where he is and the defuser is locked down.

proper siege demands 10 people of the same skill level playing together in a lobby.... the gap between players is so large that good players can just play tdm and win with minimum effort.

coming from someone who started during Black Ice and quitting after Flores got added I 10000% get what you mean by proper siege. Started to play again (1 month in) I find it so weird how this current meta is with everyone blood thirsty and playing for themselves instead of the objective/team.
