Riot really needs to put their foot down when it comes to contracts. We're seeing this year after year, mainly in the LEC and LPL, how these predatory contracts with weird clauses and loopholes outright undermine the competitiveness of the top leagues. In a legal sense there isn't much they can do about these contracts once they are signed, but they do need to approve them before the teams and players would sign off on them. Like mandating these contracts to contain some kinds of protection clauses for the players. It's difficult to efficiently step up against, but there sure as hell are better options than doing nothing. But we know Riot well enough, nothing will be done about this unless it makes THEM lose tangible money.
Yup, while there should be decrease in salary if a player is bench, it should be so much that teams can just afford to have players sitting on their bench while other teams would want them. Something like a 20-30% salary reduction makes sense. But I think Rekkles was like 10% of original salary or something huge like that.
@@bensonvong My idea is a bit more drastic, but I think long term benching should give the player a contract termination clause, where if a player registered on a roster either doesn't play a competitive match for a certain period of time, or doesn't play in at least a certain percentage of the team's competitive games throughout the year, they're free to explore options without a buyout fee. If they wish to do so, obviously.
unfortunately if they want the esport to continue to grow and reach ESPN levels of recognition, they have to let these sharks play their game. if they step in and control everything, there instantly becomes a ceiling to the profits that investors/sponsors can earn.
@@hushed6160you can tell a lot of these people don’t follow traditional sport. Is it shitty for g2 to do what they did? Sure but you can see the second another org tried to buy him out they were willing to sell. It’s like these people expect g2 to willingly fuck themselves over it’s so mid tier iq
Gotta feel bad for Rekkles in this situation. The dude was the best ADC in the region for years had a year with G2 where his stats were still top of the region but the in game strategy was a bit off. Wins EU masters with KC immediately, and then goes to FNC when the dumpster fire had already been going for a year.
Yes, they won EU masters. But didn't win LFL. The years, before Rekkles joined KC, the org was more successful so hiring Rekkles was more of a downgrade playerwise. Of course, it was still worth it for marketing reasons.
Rekkles was better in late game when some are better in early agression...but looking in a long run with meta in mind early agression players quickly fell off when rekkles kept making pentas...meta at that time really didnt let him play well with all the fast games and early game champs with an inting support and jg...but now i think he could actualy perform well with most games dragging 40+min
The amount of people that blame Rekkles since he was "washed" or that "he shouldnt have signed the contract" is absurd. These G2/ EU fanboys refuse to accept that the decline of their region is 100% percent due to predatory practices by orgs and owners and not because of people "betraying" EU.
I always thought Rekkles was overrated af. Look that he gets put in contract jail is cringe, but not unheard of in any international sport like basketball and soccer, so why should it be different here. What is interesting tho: Nobody wanted him on their team after a single split playing with him. So he clearly was a problem child.
@@darkgrundi9543 and people will just ignore that part.... players themselves on EU is also problem... its not just an org problem... just look at Adam ... people will get sad by Adam 3 years later for all the shit he did this year just because he said "its not my fault"
@@darkgrundi9543 One look at how much of a steady decline LEC is on since 2019 tells you all you need to know about whether or not these orgs actually know what they need to do for international success. All they care about is domestic titles, that's why they participate in this stupid contract locking BS instead of allowing their region to thrive and actually be competitive. Caedrel said it himself, the only reason G2 let him go was because KC was the one trying to get him, a team that wasn't even in the LEC at the time. So in G2's eyes, it was a "safe" buy out since they aren't a competitor. Imagine this mafia type shit happening in a region like LCK. Only in G2 will you see this happening and people like you defending it.
If they thought he was the best they would have used him same for fnatic, its not a charity, you don't get to be in the lec because you have a lot of fans and is handsome
@@svsv1191they might not have thought he’s the best but he easily would’ve been an improvement on most other teams, therefore the jailed him. Not hard to understand,
@@svsv1191 except they literally contract blocked him for the sole purpose of preventing a competitor org to pick him up. They only allowed him to get bought out because it was KC, a team not even in the LEC at the time. Plus, you downplay his fanbase and support, but org income based on fan sales is also a thing these companies care about. If Faker has no nerves on his hands anymore and has left T1, any LEC org would line up just to sign him an exclusive contract because his name alone can bring unimaginable profits to the company even if he just rides the bench without playing. It's the same in most popular sports, picking up players for their fame is not some mythical thing yk.
@@svsv1191 Just because he was benched doesn't mean that he's not good. Sometimes it just means that he doesn't suit the team play style. And rather than letting the player go and getting built into a team that suits his play style, they would just eliminate the possible competition
It seems to me that the "reason Europe is bad now" is the lack of competition. G2 was at their strongest (2018, 2019, 2020) when they had Fnatic nipping at their heels. But once they sent Perkz to NA hell and bought up Rekkles, that was it. And all the other GM shit seems aimed at the same goal: keeping other LEC teams from being strong. G2 players talked a good talk this year about wanting to play whoever at worlds, because that's how they stay competitive. But they were afraid of playing strong teams domestically. And when every team is trying to cut the rest of the region off at the knees, nobody is benefitting.
I agree especially with how they recruit Superstar Talents Just to jail them when they have No use for them anymore. But i think tha roster with perkz AS AFC was Special. I think Mikey and him we're the best fit.
And you still see weirdos in the comments defending this barbaric and tribalistic behavior. They're literally acting like highschool cliques, recruiting and bullying people to make their clique strong while keeping every other clique down. It's insane how short-sighted G2 became when they'd rather keep domestic dominance over international success.
@@TM-df9hj Fair competition is not always "good" competition. You want growth both in and out of competition because they feed into each other. Superstar players give crowd interest and raise money just by being there before they do anything. Lots of superstar players spread around different teams keeps them alive and wanting to improve to stay afloat against the others. Strongest competition available increases interest in spectating. Mass interest means the games more popular so more people are interested in actually wanting to play at a competitive level, the percentage increase will be small sure, but its increasing. If you just contract jail the best players its a advantage only to the jailers. Sure, region might still be fair, but you know certain people are just being forcibly kept out of the scene. Feels great to be a rekkles fan when he wasn't even allowed to play, you think viewership would somehow increase with moves like that?

Rekkles came out as autistic, yes? As a woman also diagnosed later in life (20s) i know what it's like to be talked about as the weird one and passive aggressive when I don't even understand passive aggression when I see it. People always spoke negatively about me and still do, though less since learning many "scripts" on how to talk like a "normal" person. Autists tend to also be hyper empathetic or lower empathetic. Rekkles seems hyper empathetic based on his behavior and higher emotions. Neurotypicals, at no fault to their own, tend to see neurodivergent people as different, odd, or even wrong. Often unintentionally. And people are really susceptible to their initial view of someone
In a recent Interview with tolkin rekkles gave great Insight on If He could See himself AS Coach after His active career and He Said he'd Love to but wouldnt want to BE headcoach cause IT IS Just too contrasictory to His personality. I think rekkles has high IQ and eq but He IS Not that Type of Leader that confronts directly, Like a bwippo or perkz. But fair Game. I Wish nothing but the best for him
I feel how Caedral made that sly remark that nemesis is going to return to pro play. My guess is he is going to play on his challenger team or what ever the EU calls it.
Bro I'm sorry EU, but yall got gutted by G2 and FNC. You shouldn't suck as bad as NA, you have the talent base to be way better, but yall just got farmed. Restricting good players from playing against you then saying "We need competition" is sickening. Disgusting, sitting pretty on your domestic title money. Glad that shit got rooted out of NA, now if only NA players were good...
NA shouldn't suck either, saying NA "lacks talent" and that the players aren't good is disingenuous to it's actual problem, their scouting process. I'm tired of this NA vs EU debate, both regions suck for different reasons and they could both be fixed if the orgs actually gave a fuck. EU has predatory contracts and teams only want to be the best in the LEC, not the world, which leads to cases like what we have now where G2 is just dominating LEC and only LEC, collecting the money from LEC titles, while embarrassing themselves on an international stage with plays like that baron call in G2 vs BLG game 3 and just overall pretty bad macro because they're scrimming against plumbers all summer. NA has the worst scouting process of any region and orgs have too much money. They'd rather just throw a blank check at an import and get quick, mediocre results from an international player who has zero ties/loyalty to the region instead of going through the notoriously bad NA scouting process to find homegrown talent and then having to train the player, get him used to a professional competitive setting, etc.
@@superlad6684 You wrote an 1000 word essay for me to easily disprove it by saying: NA is a console dominated country. Pc games have less traction in NA. Shooters, console games, and fighters is what NA kids are most exposed to. Less people starting league young = less talent base.

It’s actually everywhere in sports not just e-sports. Superstars won’t always fit your team and you don’t want those are directly competing for the trophy to have them. It’s just bad business. If other sports can thrive with this happening, e-sports should able to do so too.
@@babyfaec Well yes and no. They definitely contract lock. Though in other sports most teams do have the money to buy them out, and inter regional trading is quite a bit more common.

Semis will be T1 vs GenG and Weibo vs Bilibili (like last year), then Weibo will upset Bilibili again and make it somehow to another worlds final. Then for the anticipated finals T1 will make full use of the Worlds buff (and GenG worlds debuff) and how they ramped up along the tournament embracing the meta that suits them to eliminate once again the favorites off the tournament in an epic series with a new iconic play, and face once again Weibo in a finals that would have 8 out of 10n returning players. In the finals this time though, Weibo will win one map due to Tarzan being a peak jungler for one game, and they they will get destroyed by probably Zeus playing Yone once again, which he will make into his worlds skin.
this is why EU will never won worlds benching players instead of honing them so that they can be ready when they are needed this types of org will never really get this international events
contract-jailing your region's best players (essentially icing them like pro tennis players try to do to opponents mid-match, except for entire seasons) for domestic success in a region that constantly cries about their international failures is CRAZY.
Yes but the other way around. If I’m not mistaken after Mikyx did a very nice run with excel (cause I’m agree with Caedrel he was actually good with XL) G2 wanted to sign him but his only condition was taking Hans with him, reason why Fnatic didn’t picked him in 2023. Because I highly doubt someone would ever pick Hans Sama after that horrible year with Team Liquid, Hans Sama somehow owes his current spot to Mikyx. That’s why is sad to see him leave
I mean there really isn't a deep Pool for european Supports ob a High Level. Labrov kinda makes Sense even though i thought that MDK supp was the best this Year. And that you prefer to get a complete bot If you swap
I mean imagine DWG contract jailing canyon instead of letting him go to GENG. if LCK teams acted like this the whole region would suffer. no wonder EU sucks now and forever
they dont realize we need good competition in europe. The old G2 Managment under Carlos was just dumb in that point. To sell the good players out of the LEC is just not the right way.
and people still defend it as a good business decision because "at least they're wining the region", I wish I could root for G2 as I really like all their players, but man do I hate that org
Despite losing home ground, T1 probably earned more money than when they played at LoL Park. Home Stadiums just have that appeal at sports and that can be true with esports as well but it's depending on who the popular team is.
It's not a healthy league when 1 team can not only afford to keep and bench a player but it's also economically advantageous to NOT trade him to another team
So G2 trades THE BEST support in EU for one of the best in summer split and we as G2 fans are supposed to be happy about it? I will give Labrov a fair chance to prove just how good he is next year, but as of now I view that roster change as a clear downgrade. But hey maybe I am wrong.
Contract locking in esports is such a weird thing. It basically never happens in actual sports leagues. RFA windows are the closest thing, but usually if a team has a problematic or underperforming player on a RFA, they don't bench jail them. They trade them and get value. If you limit someone like that, you're basically signaling to players that you don't respect their freedom to play and that you will kneecap their career if you mess up. Who wants to actually deal with that. It's the kind of thing that turns players away from your org.
I dont feel like Yike did a bad job this year, even when he picks for the team and less hard carry junglers. I rly hope this will improve G2 and the team where Yike goes.. Hard to find and to make players that great
i think the contract situation is in EUW is as bad as NA. the best way is to compare the situation of NSYNC & BYB with Lou Pearl. It's illegal, but no one will actually sue until it becomes too big. As of now, i dont think EUW talents haven't reached the boiling point yet because they should be able to win an unfair contract lawsuit like NSYNC & BSB did but players are too fragmented to speak out. Probably because theyd ont have a union to know how each of them feel about their situation.
Korea limitation order is kinda crazy. They also forced import players use Chinese on international interview. So someone who cant speak chinese(ex ruler) cant gets interview. LOL
riot needs to put in safeguards to stop what has happened to Rekkles from happening again and from continuing to happen. There are so many good players in Europe who have been shafted by greedy organisations. What's happened to Kaiser?. Arguably one of the best supports in the LEC just a few years ago and now he's disappeared. Why? Because he got stuck with a team that doesn't want to play him. If we want the LEC to flourish and challenge at internationals Riot needs to set in safeguards that will help players move between teams when they are not playing
I also think players should have it in their contracts that they still get paid full salary even when benched. Then teams wouldn't be able to afford keeping someone in contract jail.
What? Do you even watch sports? Basketball soccer people do that shit all the time. Buy star player dont like their attitute bench them then fk lose without them happen so damn often

Yike is gonna be insane in his next team! - That's the same thing I've been hearing about Bo for around 2 years now. IF you really want to take the pressure off Yike then pls STOP putting it on him in your next sentence. And honestly if he goes to a team with shit laners Yike will end up exactly like Bo. It's kinda interesting if he will be in the top 5 LEC jg next year without all the G2 veterans.
Labrov is a good player but i think G2 will suffer without the experience Mikyx brought internationally atleast. Domesticly they might still dominate it all aslong as Skewmond works out.
g2 does not need experience internationally bro, they have a strong core of hans brokenblade and caps, changes needed to be made for sure because losing twice in swiss will lose you confidence inevitably and having a new project means more motivation to work hard in winter and spring. i think labrov will be excellent in G2, the hard work mentality and environment of G2 will allow him to become the best support in europe, skewmond is more of a question mark because he is a rookie but to be fair, I love yike however he often did mistakes which are uncharacteristic to G2's level
@@lehends5683 You always need experience, Labrov isnt some rookie but it can SOMETIMES be hard for ppl who havent been to worlds alot to preform on stage. Imo he should be happy with any top 5 team his first split to warm back up again.. and if he is as good compared to other mids he will stand out.
what reason, besides trying to achieve anything at worlds, would he have to join LEC? having to deal with shitty org members? having to perma discuss gamestrategy with teammembers that you fundamentally disagree with due to different views on the game? atm, he can just do w/e he wants while living with his family and having same or better income. theres 0 reason why he should ever take a below top 2 orgs in EU. and he doesnt have to prove to randoms on the internet that hes as good as people claim he is. maybe he isnt anymore. maybe he is. but proving something to randoms does shit all nothing positive for his life.

People finally realizing FNC and G2 destroyed the LEC. They have the most money of any of the orgs, they can poach the best players, if the players don’t work out? Well then just put em in contract jail.
Fact 1: The only year G2 didnt make worlds was when rekkless was there. (sorry for the jail but 100% deserved considering how much he was paid) Fact 2: Fnatic got last place in the split so bench was very reasonable. Fact 3: Couldnt even get anything done with KC against academy teams.
I will never understand these players crying about contracts. You signed a deal - it didn’t work out, you would still get payed for the deals duration. Grow up
Idk i feel like an LEC Team should pick up Serin as mid he is crazy and smurfing every game in prime league and masters. And i would love to see him compete vs the best mids of the league
League should have an offseason and signing players should be forbidden between certain times so that all players become available at once and teams can compete against each other. Like teams still in the running for worlds right now aren’t going to look to sign somebody but if a team is exposed and decides they need a new support or jungle these players will have already signed elsewhere just weeks before
2:52 I don't know if anyone has more reliable info, but from what I've heard, Fnatic and Rekkles just mutually decided to end the contract, meaning there was no buyout for him after the season (same as they did with Wunder and many of their former players). If that is true, I'm not sure how that is "villain" behavior, terminating contracts so that players can freely explore their options seems like a reasonable thing to do, sure it sucks that he didn't get to play for the full season, but holding that against the org is a bit petty imo.
Man I keep saying its Gen Gs yeae but every time they find a way By all means theyre the strongest looking team at worlds rn. But if they just crash out i wont be surprised
It's such a weird concept to bench a player who you think is performing bad and jail them, just to be scared to sell them because "uhh what if we lose" isn't that just contradictive? I guess G2 FNC management is so shit they dont even understand what their own decisions imply, like, then these benched players aren't the fucking issue if you're terrified of playing against them no? Am I crazy?
this actually was so bad, by not allowing the org to trade rekkles competition became so much worse. Leading to G2 having no good teams to play against even more, congrats EU you shot yourselves in the foot and we wonder why G2 has no scrim partners for worlds now from EU hahahaha.
riot have to step in for the players getting a contract jail. not only this will make them look good. it'll also provide drama content when the player that's been contract jailed beat the team that jailed them 😂 this could be a win win for everyone across the board. lol cc will have gossip content and tournaments will have more drama, better competition and players will receive increase in growth potential. imagine a world champion mvp saying he grind for the trophy so he can show the previous team that he's not the problem, they are. ugh the possibilities is peak
He was a great Utility Adc and would very rarely become useless even in a losing match up but unfortunately, his play style just couldn't keep up with how aggressive younger adcs were. He rarely could solo carry but would do well in a triple carry or double carry comp. He's much better as a support player because of his playstyle but mostly when using enchanters for the same reason why he fell off as an adc. Not aggressive enough. It's more nuanced but that's the most basic explanation I can think of. No hate of course.
Ye he couldnt keep up with all the new changes & champions which made his championpool very small. Drafting for him became harder with 10 bans each game. Most of the time he had to play out of his comfortzone & he refused to play champs on stage he didn't practised enough in his opinion. He probably got insecure about his performances with all the new changes & started to play more passive (the reason why people started to call him a KDA player).
+ he said himself he lost quite a bit of level when playing with KC, so he was completely out of shape when he joined fnatic again. Fnatic didn't like that at all and didn't give him the chance to get back in form. On the other hand, in T1 as a support he has not a champion pool, he has a champion ocean, and his immense experience as an adc made him able to stomp lanes. I'm really in the rekky support hype train tbh
the game changes its meta really quick and some players are slow to adapt to the new champions (or never do). Rekkles champion pool wasn't suited to play that meta at all and he didnt adapt either.

Absolutely spot on. This is a great take 100%
@@bensonvong My idea is a bit more drastic, but I think long term benching should give the player a contract termination clause, where if a player registered on a roster either doesn't play a competitive match for a certain period of time, or doesn't play in at least a certain percentage of the team's competitive games throughout the year, they're free to explore options without a buyout fee.
Forgiven was way better dominating his lane instead of waiting like Rekkles 0/0/0 kda player to win a lategame fight
He was the most boring KDA player, but he was better than most EU adcs tbf
Nah, people will be stupid and ragebaiting. Of course there will be no decent discourse for topic like these
I always thought Rekkles was overrated af. Look that he gets put in contract jail is cringe, but not unheard of in any international sport like basketball and soccer, so why should it be different here. What is interesting tho: Nobody wanted him on their team after a single split playing with him. So he clearly was a problem child.

We could just look at who Carlos hangs around with to know this
Only Wunder got an easy way out from G2 I think. This org is ran by psycho people tbh.
@@kevinnguyen8631 who does he hang out with?
It seems to me that the "reason Europe is bad now" is the lack of competition. G2 was at their strongest (2018, 2019, 2020) when they had Fnatic nipping at their heels. But once they sent Perkz to NA hell and bought up Rekkles, that was it. And all the other GM shit seems aimed at the same goal: keeping other LEC teams from being strong. G2 players talked a good talk this year about wanting to play whoever at worlds, because that's how they stay competitive. But they were afraid of playing strong teams domestically. And when every team is trying to cut the rest of the region off at the knees, nobody is benefitting.
that scaringly makes sense.
I mean if the whole region is bad aren't they pretty good competition for eachother?

They'd rather just throw a blank check at an import and get quick, mediocre results from an international player who has zero ties/loyalty to the region instead of going through the notoriously bad NA scouting process to find homegrown talent and then having to train the player, get him used to a professional competitive setting, etc.

drop the hyphen
It’s actually everywhere in sports not just e-sports. Superstars won’t always fit your team and you don’t want those are directly competing for the trophy to have them. It’s just bad business.

Would be fun to see Jankos and Mikyx on KC
So G2 trades THE BEST support in EU for one of the best in summer split and we as G2 fans are supposed to be happy about it? I will give Labrov a fair chance to prove just how good he is next year, but as of now I view that roster change as a clear downgrade. But hey maybe I am wrong.
13:23 the last like 2-3 years has been chovy's year
Contract locking in esports is such a weird thing.
LOL
And China wonders why they're so unpopular 😂

Ur goat is getting a free ride to a trophy. If ur a real fan, u should find that disgusting
riot needs to put in safeguards to stop what has happened to Rekkles from happening again and from continuing to happen.
Shit is so petty. This is why Esports will never be taken seriously compared to real sports, until this childish shit has regulations
esports will never be taken seriously because genx think their hippie opinions are all that matters
What? Do you even watch sports? Basketball soccer people do that shit all the time. Buy star player dont like their attitute bench them then fk lose without them happen so damn often

I mean that's not really fair. Mental boom is FNC's default state
League should have an offseason and signing players should be forbidden between certain times so that all players become available at once and teams can compete against each other. Game changed. Changed how you need to play. Its in every sport. Goats from history wouldnt do much today.
Why didn’t rekless just ignore the message 😆
Because he got triggered by the absolute brainlets that feel they need to tweet while knowing fuck all
I swear if Gen.G got benched by FQ on Quarterfinals😫i won't play League PC and will gonna play Wildrift (League PC mobile version) for a month😭i mean Gen.G looks strong right now and FQ will gonna beat them suddenly on international stage???😅😅😅this is the biggest joke ever🤣😭
Labrov was embarrassingly bad for 2-3 years before BDS, looks like a massive choker and does not seem to have any sense for makro. Labrov will flop and G2 will once again drop of a cliff until they get Micky back
So you haven’t watched Labrov at all then? He was bad in his an incredibly dysfunctional team on Vitality. He then left and went to BDS where he has been good.
Carzzy was also utter dogshit on that team? Does that mean Carzzy is just terrible and will flop? No.
I see the logic (albeit very short sighted), but contract jailing someone still makes you a morally bankrupt person. With no competitive integrity.
End of an era, mikyx is my goat
Nah bro, you don’t become better at the game by sabotaging the competition, keeping players in contract jail. You might win LEC, but you’re just guaranteeing we’re weaker at worlds. This has got to be the biggest reason for our eu decline.
